There are some things people believe without proof. For example, when they cross a street they wont get hit by a car. I think this is based on an intuition that people will follow the traffic rules. But its not really something you prove to yourself before you cross a street.

I was raised by Syriac-orthodx christian parents, I was told these things are that and have happened etc, was not allowed to ask how and why and if they are wrong etc because that would be interpeted like an insult.. I still managed to become an atheist because I chosed so, the bible was not appealing to me. And I respect those who are religious as long as they respect me and do not try to force me to God.

I appreciate how you said that respectfully. I myself am a Christian and have faith in God, and because of my faith and the Bible (which was written by men but inspired by God), I view that as proof, as long as testimonies I have heard from other people who experienced God or miracles. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I appreciate how you don't put down religion even when you don't agree with that. I wish more people were like that.
I am Christian and I feel that believing in God is based completely on faith. I also feel that if someone really doesn't believe then that is completely up to them. I try not to put anyone down because they don't believe what I believe because we are all entitled to our own opinions. However, I would like to point out that if you actually read the Bible, there is some proof. I know that a lot of it sounds like it doesn't make sense but when you really think deep about it, it starts to.

You're second point: Evolution is governed by enviroment and random mutation. There are no flying horses because earths gravity is to heavy and because the correct mutations havn't happened in that thread of DNA. The clue is in the title: RANDOM mutation. Most mutations are not an improvement so they die out. Bears and wolves share the same ancester, birds have evolved from dinosaurs. We've only been observing nature for a relativly short time.

Kangaroos are not the same species as Koalas, yet they share similar properties that can only be found in australasia. Rodents havn't turned into birds but some have evolved into bats. They solve the same problems of flight in the same way yet they are different species. A dog won't turn into a horse but dogs may evolve one day into bigger animals that resemble horses if the conditions are right. The whole 'flying horse' premise is flawed. Two roads can lea out of the same city but head in completly different directions. It doesn't mean there is no city! Your concept of evolution is restricted by your beliefs.

I was raised by Syriac-orthodx christian parents, I was told these things are that and have happened etc, was not allowed to ask how and why and if they are wrong etc because that would be interpeted like an insult.. There's plenty of room for science and a belief in God to coexist. The more I study quantum physics, the more I see intelligent design throughout the universe. That's plenty of proof to me. @ColdCoffy Sorry that came out wrong, Jews, muslims and christians use "God" as a definition to their believe and creator, all three of Jesus, Moses and Muhammed claimed God had spoken to them and guided them to write their books etc which have been whats shaped our traditions and structure of our believes. I'm a christian... I've never read the bible front-to-back. But I have a fact for you- the bible entry's are actual documents. Weather they where stories of fiction or not, I don't know. But I respect your beliefs. Criss Angel *on A&E sometimes* has walked on water. Since humans only use like this much of your mind: l-l, maybe Jesus used ALL of his brain? WHo knows. There IS no proof, but I believe what I believe, just wanted you to know. :)

Can't we all just stop fighting! There is No proof it does or doesn't exist! I once read a book that said that once you die what you beleive is supposed to happen happens in your eyes but what everyone else SEES what they beleive. I like that idea! I am personally Wiccan but most my friends are Christian and Catholic! They don't think I will go to hell for beleiving that there is a goddess and god,but they still believe everything in the Bibal is true. Get it?

I appreciate how you said that respectfully. I myself am a Christian and have faith in God, and because of my faith and the Bible (which was written by men but inspired by God), I view that as proof, as long as testimonies I have heard from other people who experienced God or miracles. Anyway, I just wanted to say that I appreciate how you don't put down religion even when you don't agree with that. I wish more people were like that.

I am Christian and I feel that believing in God is based completely on faith. I also feel that if someone really doesn't believe then that is completely up to them. I try not to put anyone down because they don't believe what I believe because we are all entitled to our own opinions. However, I would like to point out that if you actually read the Bible, there is some proof. I know that a lot of it sounds like it doesn't make sense but when you really think deep about it, it starts to.

Your imagination should be your tool not your crutch. You should learn to control your imagination rather than letting it tell you what you want to hear. Death is horrible, life can be suffering and pain, I have constant physical pain and now I have very powerful emotional pain coz of my loss, but still it is all outweighed by my wish to stay logical and to see things as they really are. The ONLY reason to believe in an afterlife is coz we WANT it to be so.

My grief demands explanations, even tho there are none. Our minds want answers that just arn't true. I WANT lots of impossible things, I believe in none. I would rather be dead than surrender my reason. You don't seem to share that feeling. You'd rather be happy than right. Its not a rare thing but it disapoints me that even after all the progress we've made on this planet people still want to hide under a security blanket of false beliefs and superstitions.

I've just suffered the death of a loved one. But I don't believe they now exist even tho I so want it to be true. I have to face the fact they are now DEAD. It doesn't matter how much I want to be with them again, it won't bring them back and there is no reason to think there is an after life. I have to deal with it. Our emotions don't have any direct effect on reality or the universe. I can see why people like yourself resort to belief in greater things coz it helps deal with the pain of life.

The flying horse 'thing' or lack of types of odd animals, shows there are no species becoming something else eg, dog into a horse. A wolf is a dog, a pony is a horse and a fish is well, fishy.
Evolution is about a change in the individual species. Look up evolution on the net for yourself.

You're second point: Evolution is governed by enviroment and random mutation. There are no flying horses because earths gravity is to heavy and because the correct mutations havn't happened in that thread of DNA. The clue is in the title: RANDOM mutation. Most mutations are not an improvement so they die out. Bears and wolves share the same ancester, birds have evolved from dinosaurs. We've only been observing nature for a relativly short time.

Given enough time and providing they don't become extinct dogs will sub divide into seperate species. How do you expalin marsupials? Kangaroos are not the same species as Koalas, yet they share similar properties that can only be found in australasia. Surly the most resonble explanation of this is there common ancesters sub divided after that continate was cut off. To say we can't see evolution happening on our time scale is laughable. It all depends how you difine a species.

If everything is ticking along fine who needs a god, no one. And why are there so many different religeons? They can't all be right. Why is one better than another? You choose the one that fits you. Rodents havn't turned into birds but some have evolved into bats. They solve the same problems of flight in the same way yet they are different species. A dog won't turn into a horse but dogs may evolve one day into bigger animals that resemble horses if the conditions are right. The whole 'flying horse' premise is flawed. Two roads can lea out of the same city but head in completly different directions. It doesn't mean there is no city! Your concept of evolution is restricted by your beliefs.

We have more in common with them than differances. It seems to me the most common reason people don't agree with evolution is that they just can't see it. Surly thats just a lack of imagination. Why do we have hair? It serves no purpose. Why do we have poorly designed backs? Because it wasn't designed!

Nearly right. I would say if society hadn't had BELIEF in god it would be different. It was used as a method of control in the past. It makes people fear god when law doesn't.
