I read this one poll that said that mixed children often identify with their Black side because of racism from Whites and in lieu of their White parent being disowned for marrying a black person. For example, I have a friend who's Black and Jewish and her Jewish family disowned her father when he married her Black mother. Her Jewish grandmother is dying now and wants to see them and she's saying 'fuck it.' I know how she was treated by that side of her and personally don't blame her.
I feel that in situations of mixed children, it's important for both parents to protect them. I think it is actually more harmful to say that you 'don't see color', because at the end of the day, racism exists and people should gear their kids with what they need to fight against it. I read an article with Halle Berry and she said that her White mother taught her that she was Black and what she would face in society. As such, Halle talked about standing up for herself in situations of racism.

I actually gave Tyra the idea for this show, I wrote her a long letter about how much black people hate me and treat me so horribly. I was told I would be on the show titled "I am black, and hated by my own race" She later changed it all and stopped returning my phone calls.

I read this one poll that said that mixed children often identify with their Black side because of racism from Whites and in lieu of their White parent being disowned for marrying a black person. For example, I have a friend who's Black and Jewish and her Jewish family disowned her father when he married her Black mother. I think it is actually more harmful to say that you 'don't see color', because at the end of the day, racism exists and people should gear their kids with what they need to fight against it. I read an article with Halle Berry and she said that her White mother taught her that she was Black and what she would face in society.
