@yankeesrule009 you can still see the other ones, ot the dead. which is all of them without garcia. I understand that garcia was an in disposable part of the band, but if you are a deadhead you ll know that garcia always maintained that he was just one man and not the leader. I love absolutely everything the Dead stands for.
That summer I thought they were the most interesting band on the planet. Looks like young me was right. What a great tune, great performance, and shows how little they depended on studio effects (like not at ALL!).
I forget sometimes how good they really were & are still. Jerry's guitar work on here makes me really lonesome for a good birdsong from that era.. hmm.. :)
Bird Song debuted in 71. Check out Three From The Vault from the Capital Theater in Port Chester in Feb of 71. The debut version of Bird Song is from this show as well as Deal. They debuted Greatest Story, Playing in the Band and Wharf Rat the night before and play them for a second time here as well. The previous night was also Mickey's last show until his return in 75.
I remember watching this on Channel 9 when it was broadcast. I was still in high school in 1970. I filmed the image off the TV with a super 8 camera, no audio, of course. Very cool to see this again.
