I love this song. Songs like this helped provide the best soundtrack for out lives in the 80's (this song just happened to be playing on the radio in the background with my first love :) )
what a great song, maybe those synths and fake drums are a bit outdated, but the song still is solid. I've always loved them, you could always hear the emotion and desperation in Martha's voice
RIGHT ON!!! FIVE HUNDRED TO ZERO. To think that in three years and over 86,000 views, NO ONE voted a dislike, not out of pettiness, not out of spite, NOT EVEN BY ACCIDENT. A big thanks goes out to everyone who has voted this video correctly. Whatever happens to the score beyond this point, take pride now, in what must be one of the highest perfect scores on ALL of YouTube!!!
And congratulations to THE MOTELS for creating and helping with this artistic masterpiece!!!
A little bit of shame on me for attempting to vote and revote likes just now. No help there. It's up to the rest of the world to carry this worthy effort forward.
478 - 0 as of today. Lookin' good, boppers....be lookin' good out there. We all know what the goal is now. It can be achieved, because we all have the honor and good taste for it. (No jinx, no jinx)....
450 - 0 now. Well done, all likers, to answer that challenge! No shame on any of us. Let's keep that perfect score going for this underappreciated '80s gem.
That's an amazing score for this video, 430 - 0 in likes in almost 3 years time. But I suppose that I jinxed it now by mentioning that. Shame on me, but more shame for the first one to actually vote a dislike.
I remember that song and her singer, and i never can unforget it, never. Thanks for upload this video. Thanks Martha Davis for make dreams with your voice.
dude, 80's music was bomb, no doubt. there's no bands/singer (Martha was really G O R G E O U S, bring back those awesomes days, nostalgia) like this anymore, thank God we still have the briliant rock/pop music. :)
aaaaawww... the Motels, Martha Davis...Synth Pop...bring back incomparable 80's with only brilliant music vids....what a magical nostalgia!!! ✫✫✫✫✫/✫✫✫✫✫
shame to notice that it went to #21 on Billboard Hot 100...it deserved went to top 5. at least....also, its my fav of the Motels. the vid, the lyrics, the song, music arrangements...damned song.
The motels wow!!! this video is so awesome and so perfect & stylish that is one of my favorite!! Martha in this vidoe looks so pretty and her face wao magnificent!!! Great video I love the technics that the producer used to make it each time Martha Davis perform & the look of her eyes so mysterios & captivated!!! THE MOTELS DEFINED THE 80'S MUSIC!!!
For some reason, this video reminds me of driving across the south, when you see an "adult store" with a huge billboard next to it saying something like "P*rn ruins families". Such a good song!
@deckard97 You mean the same guy who directed 1995's 'Se7en' with Morgan Freeman & Brad Pitt & 1992's 'Alien 3'? I didn't know that! But then, David Fincher is no stranger to directing music videos, having done Madonna's 'Vogue' & 'Oh Father'. Thanks for that piece of info buddy!
@AnthonysDen Your welcome, i only knew that because Star Wars insider did a piece on him-he had worked on bothJedi and Temple of Doom, the article was covering his post Lucasfilm career (as a director) and this song, Cherish by Madge ,Express Yourself were listed .and yeah Vogue ,Oh Father-He is a great visualist huh?
at last! i have found the cult of martha davis...those damned vocals of hers...so creamy and evocative...i love, love, love martha davis...and this song...please, one of my favorite of all time...yeah, 1985 was bittersweet for me as well...more bitter than sweet...a helluva lot more...but listening to martha davis in my lonely room made it just a little bit better. this woman can do no wrong in my eyes...i also love her version of take my breath away...simply haunting...hypnotic...
@rogerson61 lol...the sweet beats the bitter now about 2 tablespoonfuls. although i still listen to martha and the motels at least once a week and i'm still a fool for suddenly, last summer. suddenly, last summer evokes the movie for me which featured elizabeth taylor and montgomery clift. i wish montgomery clift had been able to listen to martha davis and the motels. perhaps his life would have been a little less lonely too.
Let's face it people. The '80's had it. Great bands, awesome songwriters, talented performers that could back their talent up. These great songs are timeless like this one from the Motels. There will never be music like this again. The videos were far , far, better than anything out there today. You had FUN listening and watching music videos then. Long live '80's music.
@Mowac amen.i was a teenager in the 80s,and the music was the best.i loved the new wave acts alot and kroq and mtv when they played videos.music sucks nowadays.its a shame what the kids listen too now.
@pinduro1618 I don't think she wants to write music for the radio. Her new stuff is great, but she's very much into her own personal muse. We can't begin to understand what current radio wants from an artist, and you can't blame her for staying out of it.
About this time 25 years ago ... Summer 1985 I saw this great video for the first time on MTV ... reminds me of my first love and the relational turbulence we had.
Probably one of the 'finest' videos of the 1980s. Although I'd extend myself to say: one of the most esthetic music videos I've seen in 30 years. Brilliance!!

I was also looking for "Tell it To The Moon" as I have not heard it for over 20 years. The album it is from - Policy - now sells for $50 or so. So if anyone can post it will be much appreciated.
I got lucky and bought the CD on eBay about 6 months ago for less than $10. It is an amazing album with "Don't Tell Me the Time" and "Tell It to the Moon" among others on it. Would love to find those videos.
A beautiful gem by the group who gave us 'Only the lonely' & 'Suddenly last summer'.It's also one you don't hear too often on radio these days.Glad you have this one partner!
