  • where did you download the movie from?

  • this video was i was looking! thank you. you're da best

    from Latvia

  • thank you this video i was looking for! :) you're da best

    from Latvia

  • i love that movie

  • I bought an Aspire One with Vista installed. The first thing I did was replace Vista with Ubuntu Linux. Now, I don't have to worry about virus, spyware or any of the bloatware added by Acer. It does everything I need and more. The one thing I dislike about this computer are the small buttons on the trackpad / mousepad.

  • install win Xp, Much better than linux.

  • I am wondering if this is ideal for a primary computer. I don't download a lot of stuff and would only mainly use it for surfing the net and using Microsoft Word. I want this so badly but everyone keeps saying it's not for everyday use, it won't hold up. Your thoughts?

  • if you are not playing any games it's just perfect for a primary computer (net surfing, ms word like you said, watching movies etc) if you like 8,9" monitor and 1024x600 resolution of course

I'm playing Diablo 2 on it and it's my favourite toy for everyday use, but games like Left 4 Dead, Fear 2, any NFS are still on my PC

  • BATTERY LIFE IS 4 HOURS

  • so how long is the battery life if your playing games or watching movies?

  • about 1 hour but you can get a 9 cell battery for it and it is amazing! About 7 or 8 internet movie hours! if you want the link PM Me

  • shit i can get 1 and a half hours out of my msi GX630. hmm how much will u get out of a 6 cell battery?

  • no you will get 2 hours battery. corehoundproductions is just lying!!!

  • with the acer aspire one netbook, whenever you listen to music or movies or anything concerning sound, always use headphones or ear buds. you get excellent sound through the headphones.

  • what movie did you watch

  • He watched the Fantastic Four.

  • caka maka

  • how do you put a film on a flash drive??

  • In my case it was drag and drop as I already had the file ready but if you're looking to rip it from a DVD that's another story. You'll need dedicated software for that. If anyone has any preferences...

  • hi im hoping to buy the aspire one but i wanted to know if you can still download games onto it.also where did you get that plug in thing to watch the video,p.s.FANTASTIC FOUR ROCKS!!!!

  • It's an Integral 32GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive. Bought if off Amazon. It's HUGE!

  • @brenconproductions uhh yeah! u can download realy anything on it. depends, but they normaly (SUPRISINGLY) have a large memory! :) just no disk slot :I

  • OK THx. But if i had the XP version, could it run itunes movies well? bcuz i plan on getting the xp version, but i just want to make sure the atom processor and the 1gig of ram is good enough to play videos

  • Saw an XP version yesterday running iTunes and syncing with an iPhone. No problem at all.

Don't honestly know how it copes all the way through a film (heating) but I'll run Fantastic Four now and see what happens (Linux version).

  • Thats awesome because i wanted to know if it could play movies on it because i wanted to buy one do u think there great, like should i buy this laptop?

  • I work for Acer remember so I can't say they're rubbish. .. ;-) But I can tell you I bought one with my own money and am thrilled with it. Took it abroad to keep the blog posted while I was away and it worked without a glitch.

  • Would the aspire one be able to run the videos i have on my ipod on itunes? i really want to get an aspire one but i have to make sure it can run my movies and shows without lag on itunes

  • I'm afraid I don't have an all-inclusive answer to that. iTunes DOESN'T run on the Linux versions because Apple hasn't released a Linux version of this app. I'm assuming AAC files are therefore out of the question. I'm testing open-source software that IS compatible and hope to have a video of this up soon. However, it WON'T be iTunes.

  • Ok i have a really serious question. Will this Netbook run my itunes well and if so, will it run the videos from my ipod without lag? please reply

  • does this thing not have a disc drive

  • Yes it does. 8GB SSD or 160GB standard (usually with Windows XP). The one in the video had an SSD drive and all I wanted to do in the video anyway was to simulate putting in an external source for the video (ie a DVD).

  • After searching around for a while I found that the best way to watch movies on the Aspire One is to use a program like PSP Movie Creator to convert your DVDs to Mp4 format.

This means you can fit the entire movie on something like a 1GB flash drive or even smaller.

Then you can install VLC Media player onto your aspire one and play the movie through that.

  • what about other media extentions?

    mpg, swf, etc???

  • Hey great vid, just wondering how you got the movie onto the flash drive. Is it actually from a dvd or limewire etc? Thanks

  • Don't remember the service but a friend downloaded it from something like Limewire and passed it to me on a DVD.

  • Oh okay, so how did you get the DVD onto the flash drive then? did you use a programme or what?

  • It was given to me as an .AVI file on a CD-Rom. All I did was copy it to the hard drive of my main PC and from there onto the flash drive.

  • i use songbird and mplayer now, can u play dvds on this?

  • My acer doesn't want to play avi video files?!

  • great to have headphones in the car with that.

  • What format is the film in please?

  • Had to look it up. it's an .AVI file. The full file name is: I fantastici 4 (s@m) DVDscr.avi if that helps(it's in Italian). Got it from a friend about 2 or 3 years ago and never threw it away. Knew it would come in handy some day.

  • 716MB

  • i dont know if i got a cheap one or not, but my speakers crackle a bit when they're turned up....solution?

  • Turn them down!

  • what is the difference between windows xp, and windows xp sp3 plx answer me

  • Well the sp3 stands for service pack 3. All it means if you have 3 packages full of bugs and fixes, sp2 also has added applications like the security centre and the malicious software removal tool. A handful of applications (i.e Google Chrome) are only compatible with Windows XP that has service pack 2 or higher installed.

  • hooray for aspire one!

great sound for a small netbook!

    really handy,

    really dandy!

    totally love this one!!!

  • Fix the audio with the Realtek HD Audio Manager, and is gonna be sound 10 times better.

  • nice video... i have heard so many people say that the speakers werent loud, but they sounded good to me

  • Thats awesome im going to try that cause i have one

  • good, what video format are you playing? Is this an actual MPEG-2 stream that you ripped from the DVD?

  • Sure it works... but using a USB drive + reading your movie from USB Drive + Playing the movie = Battery killer :P. I'm not sure you'll be able to watch the whole movie before your battery dies lol.

  • simple solution, download the movie onto the HDD, the XP version has a 120GB HDD and 1GB RAM so it has more than enough space for movies

  • wow the pictur is great but the sound meh i have a good pair of head sets so i'm coverd

  • i just got my acer aspire one yesterday, it's very very nice solid feel to it. one thing that missing is the dvd drive- i wish they come with cd/dvd drive. anyway i'm very happy with it so far. could anyone recommend which usb external drive should i get? i want to watch movie!

  • download movies using Frostwire, Limewire or some other sharing site. But HP usually has some good external disc drives, shop around for them, they are everywhere and some a reasonable in price.

  • of course it can play a divx but what about 3d apps? like 3ds max or some games

  • does it not have a cd slot

  • nope

  • No CD/DVD drive... sorry.

  • will it play dvds?

  • can the RAM on the acer aspire one with Linpus and 8gb ssd memory be expanded to 1.5gb?

  • fuck you shitmouth

  • can the RAM on the acer aspire one with Linpus and 8gb ssd memory be expanded to 1.5gb?

  • what Format are you running that film?

  • And you can also just install VLC player for fedora-based linux (which Linpus is) it supports like hundreds of formats.

  • Thanks for the VLC heads up. I've added it to the list of apps I'm going to make walk-through installation videos for.

  • No problem. It was simple enough even for my gf to do with some copy/paste :D She installed NTFS-3G support at the same time, to get an NTFS USB hard drive to work.

It seems though that many advanced users of the One upgrade Linpus to Ubuntu or something a bit more usable.

  • I finally got the one with 120GB running on Linux. It does play DVD movies.

  • no dvd drive .. better you convert the the dvd to a more manageable size and format.. remember on a smaller resolution screen you dont need high quality for it to look good.

  • i used external drive

  • well give it a try and let us know :p

  • where did u get it? I wanted one with 120gb running linux. And how much was it? PLZ!!!

  • Please answer can I put itunes on it?

  • As far as I'm aware, Apple doesn't make a Linux version of iTunes. But you should have no problem with the XP version (of the Aspire One).

  • itunes sucks just use the alternative playar for your ipod

  • Alternative player... what is it?

  • BTW, what video format does it play? AVI, MPEG, MP4, FLV, DIVX, etc????? Does it also play DVD movies on external drive?

  • You mean it can play movie on Linux OS? Wow! That's exactly I want to find out. Thanks for the info. I can't wait to get mine. But I want the one with 120 GB HD.

  • first off, these are great videos, i watched all of them :]

i am going to get my acer one in the mail, hopefully within the matter of days ^^

i was just wondering if anyone knows how to download maple story =D

    Thanks!!!

  • cool! but hey, you can watch a film on an iphone too >_>

  • You're absolutely right but a) you got limited storage space (no external flash card reader on an iPhone - although I have 12.5GB of music on mine so I don't count), b) not all files play on the iPhone, c) it costs MUCH more and d) you can't chat or use video chat on an iPhone (yet).

And then of course there's work...

  • thanks for the review AcerGuy.what software do you use to transfer DVD movies to the flash drive?.

  • It was a file I downloaded from a friend ;-)

I'm still looking for a great DVD ripper...

  • which is better acer one or msi wind?

  • Do you have a 6-cell battery or a 3-cell battery?

    How long does battery last?

  • This one came with a 3 cell battery so up time isn't all-day-long. But the deal here is that you can check your mail and other stuff within a minute. That means you're up, on and out in no time and you can repeat the process all day long. If you use it like that, then battery life sky rockets.

  • Sounds good, however, I'm still gonna wait for the 6-cell one. Mainly, because I want a mechanical HDD and that takes a hit on the battery life.

  • That makes a lot of sense. Good move.

  • Does the aspire one support keypad tapping??

  • You mean is the screen touch sensitive? No, it isn't. All input controls (keyboard + mouse) are just like a normal laptop. Only smaller.

  • Thanks for sharing some great videos.

Do you have the 1Gb Ram version?

I'd like to go for the 8Gb SSD version, but that only seems to come with 500Mb Ram currently. :(

  • The pre-production one I "borrowed" was 512MB ram and had an 80GB HDD.

The one I've just ordered has 8GB SSD - 512MB RAM.

Delivery is scheduled for 26 July so you'll have to wait till then to see what a "real" one's like...

First editions are a bit light, but there is a bigger line up coming "soon" with Wifi+3G or WiFi+WiMAX too. Worth waiting for...?

  • Good point. Honestly, I would prefer if rather than 3G or WiMAX, they put in 802.11n and bluetooth. The Eee 901 has it, and it makes sense to me. Regardless, this device looks to be perfect for my needs, except the 3-cell battery, and the pretty high price for the 6-cell. Why make a tiny portable machine with only 2-3 hours of battery life?
