@pootiechris419 How? What does the Kinect have that would make this any easier, or cheaper? If anything it would be more expensive because the Kinect is an expensive piece of kit. All this 'mirror' requires in its current form is a picture; not even a high detailed picture (just one with good contrast). So, a cheap pinhole camera is fine...I don't understand how it could be improved at all with a Kinect. I suspect you work for Microsoft ;) Kinect WOULD let you make a 3d mirror, though.
I think this is amazing - the fact that the properties of the peg material can be warped and betrayed in this way is pretty spooky.
I prefer this piece to the other mirror designs Rozin's produced because the relief of each peg creates such a definite shadow -> I think that adds a lot to the final effect. Almost reminds me of a wood cut... mind-boggling.
the pegs are cut diagonally at the front end, and the peg in the middle is a camera. a computer inside it sees the live pictures from the camera, and rotates the pegs to, with shadow and highlights, recreate the viewer before her eyes. i hope that made it clear :]
Don't let that be the limit of imagination. Think what else can be done in the arena of unexpected image generation. The software os not that complex nor the creation of image display systems.. it's the brilliant mix of the two. Think about other instances where you have seen an image on a surface that was generated in an unusual way and make a gadget that uses that and you, *too*, can create (in)famous art.
What a really brilliant and unique idea! I love the fact that you're combining digital technology (computer, camera) with the elegant simplicity of wooden dowels and the use of shadows to produce an image - beautiful!

Ingenious idea. I enjoy the object itself more than the image regenerated, though it is as interesting as well.

@mickeynightkitchen I totally agree! This one holds its own as an art piece so much stronger because of that.
