@longjohnw86 he is a team pokerstars pro that won a WSOP bracket in 2011 in a field of 4,576 ans you never heard of him, you must be one of these causal poker fans that only know of hellmuth, doyle, annie duke, mike the month etc.. lame
Cyrogenian please dont try to rationalize this because its impossible. This HAS to be the result of some history between the 2 of them. Some kind of read or something. It has nothing to do with ranges or dry cards anymore.
in his head he was saying "it's a suited K it looks too pretty to fold, i have to call because i didn't even pay attention to the board i called down cuz im incapable of folding"
What you guys dont understand is that he could do the extact same thing with a pair or an Ace, the guy got lucky.... poker is plain luck past a certain level anyways
let me teach you for free, GUY RAISE PREFLOP, thats saying : Hey buddy i got a very good hand dont come if your not ready to fight. then flop comes A 4 4
that makes AK AQ 35% stronger if there was A 4 8, cuz you automaticly get 2pair with good kicker, SO YOU DONT HAVE REASON TO BET..... why would you scare someone off your hand? so he call, turn come blink and guy keeps attacking , there i would worry about 99orKQ but real guts was calling that strange bet on river.
Tolo bet to quick to have an ace , I think hes most often bluffing there. In this situation, I believe it's better to raise on turn hes second bluff, just in case the bluffer might catch a pair on the river. it would be so cruel for Lykov if the 6 came on the river and it went check check ( obviusly )
ok no 4, how about the ace that more of a real worry so Lykov check calls, Tolo fires again on the turn which is a 3 also a rather dry card the 3 is a spade which opens up a flush draw yet Tolo feels no need to protect his hand and only make a slightly larger bet
@cardplayer55 sure if he holding 2-5!, and yes it's opened the backdoor flush draw, but still dry that it didn't just helped make his hand, with his holding is unlikely to be 2-5 or a BD flush draw as the board is paired hurting implied odds, if his actions made sense pre/post then 33 would be his holding where the 3 was the card that helped him, unlikely so "rather dry", but not completely dry) if he had 33/2-5 then Lykov would had be very unlucky against Tolo with the king high call
Lykov discounts the 4 the ace and the 3 (and also any pocket pair) if so then he is ahead with the king, the river is the most trouble a Jack this card might had been in his range J-10 J-9 QJ , but getting good odds believing he was head on all other streets also in if Tolo didn't have an ace or a four why not check behind when he hit the jack? he would have showdown value but Tolo has none and knows the only way he wins the pot is to bet at it, Lykov knows this too.. and calls
@Cryogenian Quite funny how you analysed this hand, don't you think Tolo would play AK/AQ the same way? Going for thin rivervalue with a 2/3 pot bet, I mean if Lykov is capable of making these calls you simply have to valuebet AJ+ there. I think this is a read or a gutfeeling, I doubt he analysed the hand when he made the call. You also say it's doubtfull for Tolo to have a 4 in his range, if he openraises 67o he'll most likely openraise 45s 64s 44 and sometimes A4s. It's doubtfull but possible
@maiabh the turn being a blank, i guess if you call the turn youre putting him on a bluff, and basically committed to calling the river too then. a big bet tho - really tough call, but it doesnt make sense to call the first 2 streets w/ nothing unless you put the guy on a bluff and stick to your read

i think he wants to see hand of his opponent . ... and sacrifice a lot of chips to saw his strategy ! .my opinion

As soon as you realise someone has a read on your like this - you have two options:
# give the man your chips immediately and leave the premises...
# wear a mask for the remainder of the tournament and seriously have a think about whether you are really cut out for poker...

so river call is what percentage of the time is he bluffing versus what percent of the time he has a strong ace, a 4 or some kind of weird straight.
PrometheanRunGood 1 year ago
It's down to A44 doesn't hit much of his raising range if he is raising a large % (which he will given position)
turn 3 won't improve a the majority of his c-bet range, if a call is right on the flop a call is right on the turn.
river J, you have to ask will he bet again with 22, 55, 66 etc? Probably not, most people here check to avoid getting raised off of the winning hand.

how the hell did he know he could make that call???
maiabh 2 years ago
a few things, he is a good knowledge of his opponent , that he will raise with non-pairs or an ace and when misses flops he will c-bet
the flop come 44A
doubtful that he open with a 4 in his hand unless it's 44 and if he did have 44 would he really raise right off with it?

@Cryogenian the 3 of spades isnt a "dry" card. you need to learn what dry means in terms of poker.
