You really should do some research. The settlement wasn't for 33 million, it was 15.3 million, AND it was paid by his insurance carrier, not MJ. In the settlement, MJ admitted no wrong doing, and there was a clause that said the accuser still had the right to go after him criminally if he chose to do so, which he did not. The only reason MJ settled was because the civil trial was set to precede the criminal trial, which was violation of his 5th amendment right not to self incriminate.

In a civil trial, only 51% of a jury has to rule against you, and had MJ went to trial and was found guilty in said civil case, that ruling could've been against him in a criminal trial. If you'd done research, you'd have known that investigators really dug for evidence that MJ molested young boys, even flying out of the country to interview alleged witnesses, and making MJ submit to a 25 minute strip search that was supposed to corroborate a drawing the accuser had made.

I agree that the settlement was not a good idea, but most people or companies find that it is easier to SETTLE a civil lawsuit rather than to go to trial with it, even if they are innocent of any wrong doing. I'm sure this is why MJ decided to settle the first case. Still, that settlement didn't prevent the accuser or his parents from pursuing the matter in a criminal court.
