I love Holdens, always have since I was a kid and the HQ's were common as dirt. They have got better and better as the years have gone by and to be honest I think with the addition of the 'LS' (Chevy) engine it really has put the icing on the cake for the Holden line up.

@rawsketch Unfortunately back in the day, it would have made anything the GM Ford or Chrysler factories turned out to compete with it look bad. When this was first released, the nearest GM relative it had in the US was the Pontiac Grand Prix GTP. The Base model Commodore this car was based on shared the same engine, albeit RWD. They vaguely look like cousins if you squint. But the chassis of a VT Commodore is what the Grand Prix should have been based on

@rawsketch IT looks a lot more like the Opel Omega that the VT started from. The Omega body had to be stretched, pumped, strengthened, and externally redesigned to Australian specs to make the VT. In the end, the only body panel they had in common was one of the C-pillar. Everyone says the early Holden Commodores were simply an Opel clone, but beneath the skin, they had very little in common. an '82 Commodore will withstand a lot more abuse than an '82 Opel Rekord

Yep thats a Aussie built V8 5.7 L stroker that was released in the series 1 VT the series 2 got the ls1 with the GTS getting the Calloway motor ! .... The ls1's sound great but the aussie V8 sounded deeper and made torque lower in the rev range ..... how do I know , I had one.

This car does not have a G3 Chev 5.7l it has a Holden 5.7l stroker engine, bore:101.64mm stroke 88.39mm The chevy motor is bore:99.1mm stroke 91.9mm

The revered 5L was dropped due to emissions standards more than anything and because the cost of modifying them to the new standards outweighed the ease of bringing in the american LS blocks. That, and we just had to trump Ford again. ; )
