  • Good god, hot,hot,hot,hot!

  • what if you accidentaly press the wrong button and fold the wings in while in flight

  • @5691emmie Not possible. You have to enter a code to fold the wings. Also, I imagine another safety feature it probably has is that it won't retract the wings when it's in motion, if you do enter the code "accidentally."

  • Ellie Rountree its sooooooo hoooooooooooooooooooooooooooootttt! LOL

  • watch my designed, The New Flying Car Design 2011, i beat it! fuckin shttt!

  • ¡ que guapo ! ***************

  • Would love to fly this with that chick giving me a handjob at 5000 feet!!

  • All you need is a successful lottery ticket.

  • it is name is latin terrafugia= escape from land or something like it

  • can i roll down my windows, blare heavy metal, honk at other airplanes and cut people off?

  • i want a evo with wings... so i can lose the cops

  • I would only buy it if they add a parachute to it

  • This guy is speeding! Shit! Pull over!!! Fucking fucker!!! lol how would that play out?

  • ellie is so hot id do terrible things to get with her

  • There's a much better video explaining the practical uses for this vehicle (and I'm calling it a vehicle to avoid the aircraft / car naming debate).

Drive to the airport, and take off. fly to where you're going, land, stow the wings and away you go . No hire cars, no parking fees (yes, there'd be landing fees).

A fantastic (niche) product. Would suit rural people down to the ground (no pun intended).

Just a shame that as eqtworld says, Americans are just so litigious.

  • I hope that it's a publicly traded company by the time they start delivering cars..

I want to get short, a week after the first guy kills himself doing something dumb in that thing they will be sued into oblivion

  • @eqtworld I totally agree with you. Of course it will be the aircraft's faulty design that made some poor bastard stall spin into the ground. At least as far as the lawyers are concerned.

  • God that thing is ugly

And they need to rename it, The first "roadable aircraft" is something you would think little boys would want posts of.. dream of.. etc..

but it's too ugly and has too dumb a name for that

  • all these flying cars are all airplanes what about the blind spot when u drive on the road? when i wanna ditch traffic i wanna take off from were i sit, my thoughts of a new concept flying car would not have wings think of it as a helicopter. light weight body tesla motor for power mollar skycar is a flying brick rethink the design

  • If someone has a DUI or excessive speeding tickets will they be able to get the license for this ?

  • it is not a car that we can fly, is a airple that we can drive.

  • lol so everytime u wanna fly u have to find an air strip...or a Loooong staright road with no cars or obstructions?

  • We have not discovered how to do anti gravity yet you moron.

  • Really? Srry, i wasn't aware of that... -.-

  • Girl is hot.

If cars like that were a bit more affordable, i would go to flight school to learn how to drive one. hehe

  • soooo... what happens if you run outa gas in the air?

  • u die :D

  • u glide

  • Before you take off, you have to make sure that you have enough gas for where you're going.

  • you fail

  • Look at his hands at 1.14 - he realy wants to grab those ... - hahaha!!! Ugly Car but I realy want to have that one;)

  • We have better flying cars then that they are just not for sale yet and we also have jet packs they've been around for several years.

  • we want a flying car that looks like a car except its cooler and it runs on solar power so the hips wont go protest on it

  • I don't know what the idea behind this project was... maybe how to make an ugliest car/plane ? In reality noone would buy this thing... In fact I would ban this thing it makes aviation as well as automotive industries look bad. This CEO guy might know a thing or two about building planes, but he's way out of touch with what the consumer market needs...

  • It's more like a plane than a flying car. Lol!

  • They had 12 orders for it before it ever flew and who knows how many now. Mostly pilots who do not want to deal with taxis, rental cars, loaner cars or having to bum a ride when they fly somewhere. I myself wouldn't trust the wings in turbulance, but it is ugly.

  • ugly car ......

    pretty lady

  • lol its ugly

  • who will i make look stupid today, lets see. 1 flying cars have been around in 2002 just not to the public, work in progress. 2 gps controlled AKA no crashing in air. 3 there is a car that takes off and lands horizontally and vertically. street legal and safe in the air. anywhere from 1 to 4 passenger. i could make people feel even more slow than they are but il leave it at this.

  • oh sorry what? i was focused on the lambo's behind it.

  • lambo? hitman reborn???

  • it sucks if you can only take off and land onto an air strip. just get a plane and a car instead. Make one that can take off and land on the road. I know that someone is gonna post a comment saying its too dangerous and that i should make it if i know so much. ITS THEIR JOB!

  • wow this is so stupid. One MINOR collision not only costs you now 10Xs what it normally would, but under FAA regulations you have to get everything Reinspected, and if the engine's damaged expect to rebuild the whole thing.

    Slow in flight

    Slow on ground

    No room inside

Joystick in the way on ground

Steering wheel in the way in air

    .....etc

    the list goes on, FAIL

  • seriously dude, you make something better.

  • how long have they had flying cars?

  • this is more like a 4-wheel plane.

  • FINALLY!!!!

What we've all been waiting for...

    an AIRPLANE!!!!!

Ive been waiting for this invention 4ever!!!

  • more like a "flying airplane"

  • Damn d car... check out this red hot chilli pepper..... wow...

  • I'm more interested in the red Lambo in the background.

  • this isnt a flying car

  • Ok its a driving plane.

  • I'd like Ellie Rountree to sit on my face.

  • haha

  • this car = terrorism deaths and world war three end of the world is in 2012 this will be the start of it.

  • I've seen a cat who was afraid of his shadow, yesterday. Are you afraid of shadows, too?

  • wtf is with the gay music in the background

  • boobs!!!!

  • in lacoste

  • its a driving plane not a flying car at all

  • It has no windshield wipers / sprayers.

Does it carry a jack and spare tire?

No, rather have a Piper Cub and a BMW for that money.

  • It will never fly by the authorities. Now we will have to deal with a whole new dimension of problems, not mention road worthyness (no bumpers, etc).

To name a few real issues:

-weight & balance problems by the public.

    - possible crimminals & terrorists gettaway vehicle or weapon.

-drunk flyers after closing time over your house, playing 'chicken'.

-engine faillures over surburbs, crashes, bear misses, illegal entering airporsts, take-offs & landings.

The list goes on and on.

  • I like her tits.

  • Yeah...I don't think so. People already drive badly enough in two dimensions.

  • i want one ....

  • it looks like a plane.... id call it a plane..

  • must use a fuck lot of petrol

  • Is it just me or doesnt it look incredibly fake from 1:02 to 1:09 ??

  • its just you

  • It's just you.

  • perfect getaway car

  • Why is there a gamelan rehearsal going in in the dubbing studio? It's a very annoying sound.

  • wow, now thats a nerd lol

  • I would want to be going down the hightway and then take off.

    XD

  • cool i guess

  • That's nice boobs

  • And Ellie is really, really hot.

  • Rocketboom likes their hot correspondents.

  • Well, I'm not going to complain :P.

  • "Roadable Aircraft" - nice catchline. lol.

  • He should use some hair gell, would make him look much more desirable both personally and profesionally. Hehe.

  • Wow, Ellie looked really hot.

  • seriously, if i saw one of these parked, i would steel it.

  • i think they'd catch you. you'd be the only guy who had a car that turned into a plane.

  • That's not a flying car, that's a driving plane

  • yeah.. but I think they say Flying Car to get ppl's attention b/c ppl have been waiting for such a thing for a long time. If you call a Flying Plane, well there's nothing really special about that. And if you were to compare to planes it's probably not a very good one.

  • cool idea not worth a whole 3 minute video explaining a plane that is also a car has a steering wheel. I also hate to say this but Ellie looked a little bored.

  • BooBs

  • it's spelled dumb, not dump...

  • but ya get it right? :P

  • This would take drunk driving to a whole new level. I want to see a closer look on that Red Ferrarri, if I am correct, in the back.

  • what's the millage, how fast is it and it better have an alarm or something cause i sure know if i had that 13min. later i'd be up on blocks lol

  • She thinks she could afford to fill-up at an Exon station; what a bunch of dreamers.

  • This drivable plane would make 100-400 mile weekend getaways really convenient. LA to Las Vegas would be sweet except for Sunday when you're hungover and have to fly home. Only problem is light sport rules limit the aircraft to 2 seats. Maybe a lot of retired people who drive the country in RV's will put one of these on their wish lists.

Most light sport aircraft are $100K and if you can afford that, moving to $200K isn't that big a deal. The loan periods are usually 10-20 years

  • You're a complete dumbass if you think the average person could afford a 190k carplane, another 10k+in maintenance and storage a year, and we won't even estimate the gas price being their 30MPG estimate in the air is complete BS.

Oh great, old people flying around, yay. And don't forget FWIs!

Again, this is a hobby for the rich and will never be the norn for most of us for a variety of simple reasons.

  • "Maybe a lot of retired people...will put one of these on their wish lists."

If old people start buying and flying these things en masse...I'm moving underground.

  • Estimated cost of $194,000.....COLLAPSES! ya..that is just a little bit out of my price range...

  • sweet!! i want one of those!! but it would suck if you did go out of gas half a mile in the air, and what airport would just let you in spur of the moment so you can fly. but other than those things it would be awesome to have one!!

  • That's why you just look at the fuel gauge. You do that with an airplane too.....and your car.

  • The fuel efficiency better be good. I don't want to run out of petrol while half a mile off the ground in the middle of nowhere.

  • Light single-engine aircraft achieve around 500 miles on one tank. Which only takes about 4 hours.

  • something about a chick in a tight red top and tight white jeans does it for me.. she's hot!

  • They need something that can fly/take off/land without a long runway. Think Back to the Future! :)

  • So you're interested in a car that doesn't need roads?

  • Hovercarzz yo.

  • I lol'd.

  • very nice, how much

  • Not the car part - the plane part. Actually - YES! Like I said - back to the future! They were cars without roads!! :)

  • a little bit closer but still not exactly right.

  • Finally a flying car! They already came out with jetpacks last year. Now all we need are talking dogs, snarky robot maids and super-high rises to recreate the Jetsons.

  • It is not a good plane or good car. I own a plane and own a car, each designed for that purpose. My plane will out plane this one (+200mph) and my car will out car this (+150mph).

Now when traveling by private plane you land and need ground transportation, its a pain sometimes, but often the airport has a loaner car (free) or rental.

Cool design but I don't market, sorry.

  • do want

  • Woo hoo! Yaw control!!

  • Awesome!

  • Curious to know:

-how much they value it at when it releases

    -fuel economy

-if my country will flock to it with open arms (Australia)

    I just wonder

  • It gets around 30mpg while driving and a little less while in the air (I think!). It's going for around $190,000 US dollars.

  • It's a live long dream of mine to own something like this

    SPREAD THIS VIDEO!!!!

    watch?v=dg_IDby4X7o

  • it must be so weird to be driving down the street and you see a folded up airplane right next to you

    too cool

  • Nice get by RB. There has been a lot of articles but this is the first actual video Ive seen.

  • You don`t need to be an MITian to make this mini Aircraft.

  • I just left a response at clarkhowarddotcom about this, he was ranting how this carplane and others like it will be the future. Complete BS! Being this monstrosity and others like it cost 200k+ and 5-10k a year in maintenance and an unfathomable amount of cost in fuel, daily individual mass air travel will never be a reality. Also, the FAA is already too busy with the airlines industry, millions of bad drivers flying at lower altitudes would be INSANE! This is a hobby for the rich, PERIOD.

  • Clearly marked on the side of the Terrafugia Transition is the word, "Experimental." The first experimental car, plastic container, lamp, and brand name drugs are all expensive at first due to high startup costs and patents. But, this could theoretically be rolled out cheaper, using more efficient fuel, alongside a streamlined ground/aviation infrastructure in the future. This man contributes to that vision. Have some faith.

  • Yep! This version is pre-beta, so they said.

  • It gets around 30mpg! I think that's pretty reasonable.

  • That's estimated mpg, and I guess if you've got enough money to buy a 190k toy, and that's what this is, a gimmick, then ENJOY! lol

My argument is only against the idea that this will ever become a normal everyday vehicle for the masses, the days of the jetsons will never come. Lets keep the skies free of idiots.

  • duuuuuh, you press the accelerator to speed up and the brake to brake lol. its automatic, dont you listen?

  • Very cool!

  • this would be a hit to the market if it was a VTOL aircraft

  • As neat as it is, no one in a normal household will buy this and it will not revolutionize personal transportation. Just another gimmick.

Anything that needs a runway, control surfaces and props shouldn't even be thought of as a "flying car".

The only way to get a true flying car is to reinvent the wheel. There is really only one thing, which we don't even know if such a thing is possible yet. Anti-gravity propulsion.

  • I agree with you completely ICDWILL117

  • Turn down that dorky music so we can hear the interviewee.

  • this is so james bond :o

but why the annoying background music?

  • their site says you can preorder one for 10k deposit

  • I want one!!

Anyone want to fork over the cost of it along with the cost of the lessons?

    JK!

  • I'd cut off a foot just to get the flying car.

  • Then how would you work the pedals?

  • duuuuuh, you press the accelerator to speed up and the brake to brake lol. its automatic, dont you listen?

  • nice interview

  • The flying car! Oh my God, I want one!

  • Nearly as cool as the Moller Skycar.

  • Wow, I want one of those!

But they'll have to change that silly name first....

  • Very cool Ellie!

  • this is way cool, but imagine the new ways criminals would abuse this...

  • Carl needs a new haircut.

  • Nein, his hair is das cool

  • A Car and Plane So cool I want it when I'm 16. It's like a Hovercar which is a very famous dream!

  • who will buy this thing

  • YOU ARE REALLY HOT ELLIE...UUUHHHH

  • Flying cars, we're STILL crashing them into each other. With these, not only will we we collide them in mid-air, but now they'll FALL onto anyone who happens to be underneath them.

Master driving vehicles on the ground first.

  • omg that would be hysterical, it just starts raining flying cars of death from the clouds

  • Fuck Chrysler, THIS is the kind of car company the government should be investing in.

  • So, what kind of mileage does it have? 0.5 miles per gallon?

    LOL

  • Next step - getting it to fold up into a briefcase! ;)

  • Is Spinners and fuzzy dice on the option list..

  • sweet... two flying cars in every garage!!

  • Hell Yeah! Commercial Flying Cars here we come!!! XD

  • I like it. Let there do one in every house in the world.

  • Your job must be pretty sweet...

  • I want one...

  • How far/high can it fly on a full tank of gas?

  • Some people are saying stuff like "Probably has bad gas mileage" and "It's too bulky." But this is the first of its kind. If it becomes a larger market, then more gas efficient and sleeker designs will pop up.

I doubt this is really going to hit the mainstream, due to the fact that not everybody can fly, but if it can find its niche, then I think this is a really cool concept.

And maybe someday flying cars will be the norm, and teens will be expected to get a driving and piloting license.:P

  • terrafugia = good project code-name

    terrafugia = bad product name

    they need to rebadge it

if people need help saying a name than it's unacceptable

esp since it's a flying car and terra sounds like terror

  • they should call it a flymobile

  • NathanSt, someone with enough cash to afford this should have at least rudimentary understanding of Latin. This isn't a McCessna

  • you obviously don't know many people with that much money

    money /= intelligent

even if a guy made a shitload of money, his wife will probably be a pretty little idiot barely capable of walking and breathing simultaneously leaving a basic understanding of latin out of the question

now my question is why does the guy who built this monstrosity not have enough advertising sense to name it something pronounceable?

  • Nice. A little bulky to look at but a nice concept.

  • still not a delorean with folding wheels though...

  • That must be terrible on gas though...

  • 4 mpg lol

  • how do you know, have you inspected it or made some research on it?

  • I think he's joking, hence the "lol" at the end of his comment.

  • i was replying to YOU

  • Oh, well then no, I'm just assuming. It looks like a heavy car being pulled by a small car engine...

  • nice

  • flying cars... finally

  • No doubt... This was said that flying cars would happend around 2002.... not really!

  • 2nd

  • Cool
