This is one of my fave songs....I just realized today it was a cover of Bowie. I thought it seemed a little familar, but I didn't recongnize it, because it is so different.

It sounds like Jim Morrison's voice if it was sped up. Good idea, but not executed perfectly. Suckers...it sounds nothing like the doors, who are you idiots?
hahah ok .............Yea totallly have im actuall a huge FAN of the Doors. But thats my openion of him sounding like Jim Morrison! Guess to you people cannot have openions unless they are the same as yours are they will be Stupid Fucks to you. lol anyways have a great day and try to think more positive. much love!
I really like this cover, but I think I would like it even more if I hadn't listened to the original so many times before. Bowie's voice and the bass line everything is just so... Bowie, that I can't imagine Let's Dance any other way.
"When Joe Cocker covered the Beatles song-'A little Help from my friends' at Woodstock, it
didn't sound anything like the original song! Likewise Johnny Cash covering '9inch nails' Hurt! A cover doesn't have to be a 'CLONE' of the original! Actually, people who try to make a song sound exactly like the original-seem to
lack 'creative talent'! When Jimmy Hendrix took Bob Dylans 'All along the Watchtower' and
sent it into the Stratosphere, it blew everyone away! M Ward Has done a great Cover"!
I think the true testament to a great cover is the originality a person brings to the piece...this is beautiful, best to just listen to the audio though.
I love this cover of Let's Dance. I felt the video to be stale and static though. Why make a cover of the video by hacking up the original? It just seems strange and vacant to me and doesn't quite fit the music.
Milan Kundera has a great book called "Slowness". It parallels the lives of two couples. One pair in the 17th century and the other a modern day couple. A brilliant juxtaposition. This version of Let's Dance also happens to be a favourite of a friend of mine's whose funeral I went to today and was as his funeral march.
I love hearing M.Ward's voice but this is a bad music video. I'm kind of stunned some commenters here think this is a classic. I think it just kind of looks dead, static. That says nothing about it being important in music history, being a Bowie video and all that, but it doesn't have the right kind of ambiance for this song.
Well, I'm only guessing, and my guess is as good as anybody's, but maybe because there was something beautiful to be found in Bowie's lyrics that didn't come off in the original or in a fast version. I never knew this song was so beautiful until I heard M. Ward's cover. Slowing down a song usually forces you to pay more attention to the lyrics.
I also love Seu Jorge's Poruguese versions of some Bowie songs in Wes Anderson's The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (but I speak a little Portuguese).
Not sure if I like this or not, but it's certainly interesting, and I prefer it to Nirvana's Man Who Sold the World.

This is really nice - takes an emotion from the original song, and brings out that part a bit more strongly (so I think!).

This is so moving. Especially sung by this soft and beautiful emotional voice. Love it very much.

it's great mate and that's from a long standing Bowie nut (40 years of fanning him), you kinda sound like Billy Holliday meets the man himself

the problem with this cover is that he doesn't keep ANY of the original vocal melodies/lines that make it so good.

why is that a "problem"?

The whole point of a cover is to make it your own. I prefer this one much more than the original. The tone of the song matches the lyrics better.
HaysoosLovesYou 2 years ago 7
it sounds wonderful..the whole point of a cover is to make it sound like your own version..otherwise your better off listening to the original

Why does everyone insist on slowing songs down when they cover them? So slow you almost lose track of the melody.

Some don't. I heard a thrashy metal version of Kate Bush's Wuthering Heights that kicked ass. I heard what you're saying, though.
