@glamourennui ok, so the song's really about her being a man and some man being a woman? what's the "how deep the bullet lies" line about then? how could that relate to that topic?
I have loved this song from the day it was first played. Its the nature of this song to appeal to the emotions...it promotes an idea many couples must have about knowing what sex could mean to the partner. "Come on darlin let's exchange the experience" -- if you've ever had screaming, shaking, pounding sex you will get this lyric. Its plainly about making a deal with God to switch conscienceness while making the earth move.
I love this song and I adore Kate Bush...She was ahead of her time and still a magnificent artist/singer/songwriter. Some of today's so called stars could learn a lot from this timeless poet diva. Just too beautiful in every sense of the word...and never had to prance around naked to prove a point. She has influenced so many artists...her music is pure inspiration and raw emotion...just gorgeous. I love you Kate!!!
kate was a musician of substance. she sung spiritual, uplifting music for progressive humans. today's music is made for those in the gutter who have no desire to look to the stars - and most people love what they are being told by today's "artists". very sad.
@MustNotRead Beautifully said. So refreshing to read your words, MNR. They don't make them like Kate anymore. I still listen to her music today, and feel the gamut of emotions her songs evoke. My only regret is never seeing her perform live, as I don't believe she has ever played in Melbourne. One can only hope....
My goodness when I read this post I thought that I had stumbled upon one of my own posts! Your comment is spot-on. I'm constantly haranguing people for the pathetic state of music today. Like PT Barnum once said: There's a sucker born every minute. Today's music industry proves it!
This song is actually about falling in love and disappearing into one another in heaven. Remixed by one of the most revered names in house music. This is a classic so have some respect you sexist bunch of fucks. Open your mind and you might understand the world this music was made for. x
Hahahaha, so full of crap!!! Has nothing to do with love!! Kate Bush was in an interview about it and said that the words to the chorus are to be taken literally.
The original is a classic, not this. To be a classic it must be dated and vastly popular. This only has 16,000 views!!!
It'll be a classic when it reaches 500,000 plus views like the original and has been around for at least 20 years.
A great "edit" considering it kept true to its original.
@redspectralgirl Way off. Kate Bush herself said it was about the reversal of gender and understanding and getting the opportunity to see the world from the other sex.
@KevinLounsberry She's quoted on wikipedia's page about the subject wikipediadotorg/wiki/Running_Up_That_Hill I know it's Wikipedia, but It's been verified
@94style What was she quoted from saying that on? that just doesn't make sense, let me steal this moment from you now? running up that builiding? like, her penis would be a building, and she wants to steal a moment of, what? And what didn't hurt her, having a vagina and boobs didn't hurt her? and having boobs and a vagina is a bullet, and she wants him to see how deep it lies? There's just no way that's acdtually what it's about, it has to be a misquote.
@94style lol, ok, how is penis and vagina vulgar when you're talking about gender, those aren't even the offensive terms for those body parts. at any rate, it's quite easy to get around the linking countermeasures.
@KevinLounsberry She's quoted on wikipedia's page about the subject YT doesnt allow links....wiki / Running_Up_That_Hill I know it's Wikipedia, but It's been verified
No it is not. Read what Bush plainly stated about the song herself. Her music was, and still is, quite weird, you're not the first one to not 'get it,' whatever that means.
@redspectralgirl "I was trying to say that, really, a man and a woman, can't understand each other because we are a man and a woman. And if we could actually swap each other's roles, if we could actually be in each other's place for a while, I think we'd both be very surprised! And I think it would lead to a greater understanding. And really the only way I could think it could be done was either... you know, I thought a deal with the devil. And I thought, 'well, no, why not a deal with God!'"
It's more or less the 12" version that was released originally back in 1985....I've still got it and it! It's a great mix. Also check out the 12" of Hounds of Love..it's totally different; love Kate Bush!!!!!
There seems to be a nice pair of boobs on this body. I've never noticed this till today! And the music, well we all know about that, this is simply timeless!
Good to hear Kate's first official remix of RUITH used in this edit. Her's is spectacular--particularly the "talking in tongues" part at the end. Thanks.
Love this remix, similar to the12" , but sounds like its been tweeked a little and sped up slightly so that it's easier to mix in in and out of it in a modern dance mix. Was this ever on vinyl, a white label or something?
Like all the other remixes on here of this great Kate Bush track, they will NEVER be as good as the ORIGINAL! The 7" and 12" versions are BRILLIANT and should not be messed up about with as it is a classic in its own right, like all her 1970s and 1980s songs! Not much of an effort, because it is mainly the original 12" version with a few added bits put over the top and slighlty longer, so not exactly clever.
The purpose of this edit (which is different from a remix) was so Ashley could play the song easier within the context of his own DJ sets, hence why not much is different.
Instead of being all purist you should be glad that DJs are taking the music of Kate Bush and this track especially to new audiences.
... "Remix"?!?!
Seems Ashley Beedle didn't twist a lot of knobs... quite close to the original...
