It is a mere translation with slightly different lyrics from the japanese one but with a much better tempo and way more impact vocally, you don't need to know german to understand when shit gets real after 45~ seconds. Always brings a tear to my eyes.

@palapil It's cheaper because A) They don't have to pay royalties to other publishers in at least %90 of the cases (Most Japanese music is professional/published artists). B) Most Music is done in HOUSE or through cheap agencies. It's easier because you don't have to spent a lot of time translating a complex language like Japanese when instead you give a composer an outline of the show and that's it. Your argument is also void since they are different cultures different children

IMO the Jap intro music doesn't feel like "Monster Rancher". If you heard the music alone without any visuals, and had never heard of it before, what would you think of? Obviously the english one actually gives you an idea what it's about. They also successfully marketed the animation to an older audience with an intro that's actually "cool" and not something lame that puts you to sleep.

The first time this was aired in the UK, it took the time slot for another anime Fox Kids showed called Shinzo.

For roughly 8 years, I've whole heartedly believed this anime was called Shinzo.

Later, they re-aired Shinzo, giving it a different time slot and taking the odd "Fcuk" that came after its name away.

And yet for some reason Monster Rancher has been Shinzo in my head for years, even though I vividly remember the Shinzo opening and this opening being totally different. *shrug* :3

Actually this opening is better than the japanese opening, the jap. is all calm and relaxing and serious when that is not what the series is like. This opening is action packed and is in no need of being serious, a perfect match for this anime.

This show is the first of monster rancher I've experienced. I still remember learning of this show at space camp when I was eight-nine and asking which channel this was on, then watching it at home and thinking it was awesome. I hadn't know it was based off a video game until many years later, in fact the only bit of monster rancher game I have and have played is the newly released monster rancher ds (monster rancher ds 2 in japan).
