Green Day can't even be in the same category as Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte or all those other modern bands! Mike Dirnt is God compared to those bands and has riffs that are fucking hard to nail and those riffs don't sound bad or pathetic at all. Green Day's been around much longer than Blink 182 and even longer than the lives of those who listen to Blink 182. Green Day has a better bassist, better guitar playing, and their drummer can do just about anything Travis can, believe me. Blink-182 is okay for their genre, but why'd you say Green Day sucks? Green Day is legend to all bands up to this decade.
@Junkpunker21 i mostly agree that green day doesn't fit with the more modern pop punk scene considering how much their sound as changed over the years into more of an alternative rock sound… mike dirnts pretty bad ass. But i wouldn't call blink a modern pop punk band considering their the inspiration for all the modern pop punk bands like ATL or FOB or GC, plus they started out in 1992 and r kinda close to punk rock. But yeah Pete Wentz's playing is more for show than anything…
1) Are you kidding me? Mike Dirnt was influenced by Matt Freeman. Mike Dirnt is up at Uranus while Mark Hoppus is only half-way between the Earth's atmosphere and the moon. That's in terms of bass playing. Mark is okay with composing. But you obviously haven't listened to Green Day's 90s records. Listen to those and you'll know what a bass sounds like when it's used properly.
2) Green Day formed 5 years before Blink and Travis joined in 1998. I bet Travis is your main man.
Yeah man, Mike Dirnt is better than you think. Sure on American Idiot and their latest songs like 21 Guns, he's slowed down to the point of a steady, root-note playing bass player. But Green Day's songs in the 90s had bass riffs all over it in every song dude.

I understand what you're trying to say. I can do Carousel on bass and it's pretty easy. Before saying Mike Dirnt's riffs are plentiful but easy, try doing the bass solo in Stuck With Me. Anyways, I'll respect your opinion of Mark Hoppus. I don't want to diss him either. ;)

How much did you pay for this bass? I need a new drop D bass. Something I can go crazy with it. Is it light? I've played a friend's Squire and it was light. Is it really a signature or do I have to get new pick ups for it? Great video I hate Fall Out Boy but I liked the first 2 albums.
I have nothing against the guy playing the bass on this video, I'm sure he plays it good enough. But I'm sorry, I think that it's kind of sad that today's roll models for bass playing are dudes like this Pete Wentz..Real bass players were and are John Entiwstle, Berry Oakley, Paul McCartney etc. These guys really took bass playing to a whole new level.
The funny thing about this bassline is, its so simple to make more complex and just sound better. Plenty of rooms for fills and in ether the verse or the breakdown the D, G, B, G line is quite fun to piss around with octaves and stuff. Pete wentz sucks tbh :/

Dance, Dance, and Tiffany Blews for sure I know he plays the bass properly.
And I listened to the entire Folie a Deux album, and I must say, although his lines were still easy. He had some good lines.
If Pete dropped that damn strum all strings at once techique. He'd actually be a good bassist.
On FOB's earily stuff, he's capibal of good lines.

Green Day can't even be in the same category as Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, Good Charlotte or all those other modern bands! Mike Dirnt is God compared to those bands and has riffs that are fucking hard to nail and those riffs don't sound bad or pathetic at all. I agree, each of those modern pop punk bands just play the root note that the rhythm guitarist plays. God man.

Green Day's been around much longer than Blink 182 and even longer than the lives of those who listen to Blink 182. Green Day has a better bassist, better guitar playing, and their drummer can do just about anything Travis can, believe me. Blink-182 is okay for their genre, but why'd you say Green Day sucks? Green Day is legend to all bands up to this decade.

@Junkpunker21 i mostly agree that green day doesn't fit with the more modern pop punk scene considering how much their sound as changed over the years into more of an alternative rock sound… mike dirnts pretty bad ass. But i wouldn't call blink a modern pop punk band considering their the inspiration for all the modern pop punk bands like ATL or FOB or GC, plus they started out in 1992 and r kinda close to punk rock. But yeah Pete Wentz's playing is more for show than anything…

1) Are you kidding me? Mike Dirnt was influenced by Matt Freeman. Mike Dirnt is up at Uranus while Mark Hoppus is only half-way between the Earth's atmosphere and the moon. That's in terms of bass playing. Mark is okay with composing. But you obviously haven't listened to Green Day's 90s records. Listen to those and you'll know what a bass sounds like when it's used properly.
2) Green Day formed 5 years before Blink and Travis joined in 1998. I bet Travis is your main man.

But I'm sorry, I think that it's kind of sad that today's roll models for bass playing are dudes like this Pete Wentz..Real bass players were and are John Entiwstle, Berry Oakley, Paul McCartney etc. These guys really took bass playing to a whole new level.

The funny thing about this bassline is, its so simple to make more complex and just sound better. Plenty of rooms for fills and in ether the verse or the breakdown the D, G, B, G line is quite fun to piss around with octaves and stuff. Pete wentz sucks tbh :/
