I own the series on dvd and every episode has at least one laugh out loud moment. It's delicious. The idiocy of NBC at that time is legendary. Procter and Gamble owned the time slot-Sunday at 8:30 EST but this show didn't belong there. It came on right after Disney and just before Bonanza. Had Desi Arnaz had the right connections. this would have been a long run on ABC. It would have fit in perfectly with Bewitched for sure. As it is now, it's a forgotten gem.
The Mother-in-Laws had to be one of the Most STUPIDEST series ever on Television. Roger Carmel was such a terrible actor. And poor Eve Arden. I don't know why she allowed herself to be put in it. Dezi Arnaz would have never made it without Lucy Ball. Dezilu studies was really run by Ball anyhow.
This was the BIGGEST "re-tread" in Television History. Arnaz used his old crew Davis & Carroll as Writers, Wilbur Hatch to do the music and probably 35 old re-tooled "Lucy" scripts in this series..especially the two baby episodes. How the series got renewed for a second season and Roger C. Carmel having the gaul to leave after not getting a raise I have never understood.
@Mr76Yearsago Carmel was on the show only because he was Married to Kaye Ballard. And Ballard was more of a singer not an actor. Ballard and Carmel sucked at acting! The only actor who was accomplished on the show was Eve Arden. And her carreer was finished around that time anyhow. And as for Desi Arnaz he was really a singer like Ballard and sucked at acting too. Desi mad it to the top only because of Lucile Ball.
@MrLogoman007 They couldn't do it though. Raymond Bailey was running the Commerce Bank of Beverly Hills at that time and all of his time was spent kissing Jed Clampett's back side...LOL.
MPI Home Video is releasing the classic little gem on July 27th, 2010. If you love to laugh, you'll really enjoy watching The Mothers-In-Law starring Eve Arden and Kaye Ballard. This is a must have classic television DVD set to add to your DVD collection.

You could probably switch Herbert Rudley with Raymond Bailey and nobody could tell the difference.

I remember this sitcom used to come on NBC on Sunday nights when I was a little kid. It really was a funny show.
