Yeah I'm confused. People have been sailing around the world for centuries. While solar is obviously do-able it is still too expensive and impractical to be commercially viable, whereas wind has proven to be economically viable already for centuries.
I would have thought that building new sail technology with solar as a backup would have been a better solution.
And of course, the Americans and Russians have demonstrated that nuclear propulsion is workable...

What's the point in having those paddle wheel like propellers. Isn't it more effective with a fully submerged propeller?

Great looking boat. But how "green" is it really. I'm curious, where are all the materials sourced from to build it?

@stangoodvibes Yes, I agree with you here 100% !
I saw this one in our local technology newspaper, but I don't really like the design of the Planetsolar, but that's personal..
What I really wonder, is how efficient this straight vertical "wall" at the stern is, with the propellers placed directly behind it?

Did they consider the benefits of putting a mast and ordinary sail on the Ship???
Altinget 2 years ago
no. no mast. alone the elektric engine`s have 290hp together.
and the whole deck is covert with solar pannels.
