Both singers are talented singers and both has grown vocally over the years. Note for note, Ashanti's pitches are higher than Alicia Keys even thought they're the same note which gives Ashanti the ability to singer higher notes in octaves than Alicia keys. However what Ashanti doesn't have is the vocal depth that Alicia keys has on those notes which gives Alicia keys stronger control and a soulful blend.

It is not that Alicia sounds strained or off key, her voice is just natural and soulful. She does not try to sing "pretty" she does it to make you feel the rawness.....and it definately works.

Wow. They are on two different levels. Ashanti can sing. Most of the notes in this vid has her screaming! not singing. Alicia can SANG. There's a difference. Nah. Their vocal fachs deem it so. Ashanti is a lyric soprano, she going to have a better head voice, more agility in her upper range and a clearer voice though she can be nasal at times in her middle voice. Alicia, though not as clear has a warmer voice and more power. So it's not shocking actually.
Ashanti is defiantly a mezzo she loses alot of clarity when hitting anything over a C5 in mid voice. Lol Ashanti really doent have alicia beat to far with her upper register either lol ive seen Alicia doing a warmup and hitting a b5 with more clarity than ashanti, and she didnt go flat the way Ashanti did at that football game. If Ashanti is a soprano her upper register sure is lagging compared to amy lee(another lyric mezzo) and kat deluna(also a mezzo).

I didn't throw it in, because I never found Alicia's G5 until later. I made this video awhile back. I discovered better notes for Alicia during her vocal battle with Christina. Like I said the Ashanti vs. Akeys battle was a bad one.

I wouldn't say a bad one, because ashanti has a great voice and she had a bigger debut then alicia, is that alicia career blew of, ashanti career sadly fell of with her last album, ashanti fans clearly turn their backs on her, I really hope for the best 4 her, murder inc was to blame, but hopefully she fall back on top, because she is in alicia, christina, and beyonce league she been out as long as them.

alicia keys has always sung in the upper range she a classic mezzo soprano, if ya actually listen to all her albums all the way threw then you know what i am coming from.. alicia keys can sing in any range, if she wants she can sing a clear c5 ect if she wanted but she old school she loves to be dramatic with high notes... she not perfect though cuss no one is, we should cherish our singers not put them down, you never when we might loose them..

no singer stick to low range or mid or upper, there no such thing of a contralto singing out of range, did you know a contralto is the lowest female voice in timbre not notes, a contralto range is threw b3-F5 thats where the quality of the voice is scale in the piano, toni braxton is a real contralto she has a deep rich voice and she can sing a C6, a voice type doesent limit to range, voice type is the quality of the voice and the sounding..

what are ya talking about alicia keys has always sung in her upper range, i have all her album and she always belt out notes, for example songs like how come you dont call me that song she kills it everytime, alicia is a dramatic mezzo/ notes doesent determined a voice type, there many qualities that makes a singer a specific voice type..

Not a fan of neither's voices. Alicia's vocal range limited, everytime she tries belting out of her range,she sounds strained and off key. Ashanti need to stay away from belting long notes,course comes off shrieking and forced.Alicia has the better tone but ashanti got the range

It is not that Alicia sounds strained or off key, her voice is just natural and soulful. She does not try to sing "pretty" she does it to make you feel the rawness.....and it definately works.

she can belt f5 in chest which is mad hard, her voice is so strong that it doesent shy and break to falsetto, her voice is even better now she trained well since 07, she can belt a c6 in mix register,,,

Wow. They are on two different levels. Ashanti can sing. Most of the notes in this vid has her screaming! not singing. Alicia can SANG. There's a difference. Alicia has way more control over her voice. Ashanti doesn't have as much control and therefore goes from 'singing' to 'screaming'. She still my girl. But I have to say Alicia and Im not just going off these screaming clips in this vid. I'm a fan of both so I've seen them both live and have their albums. I still have to say Alicia.

Alicia doesnt have great control either and normally she is pitchy live. And her belting range is very shouty like she forcing herself up there and straining a bit.

She was so much better when she stuck to her normal Alto range. Dont know why everybody wants to belt out the really big notes, it's tonal quality that makes a singer.

she doesn't shout she a has a heavy loud voice that's intentional, she can sing clearly in her mid and upper range and songs like fallin and teenager love affair and she sound good, you don't follow her career like i do, she has qualities of both a mezzo and contralto she like a modern Janis Joplin, she can sing comfortably in any range she wanted, she got an amazing voice,,,,,and she rarely strains.....

if ashanti can try to increase her vocal range then maybe she would be better than Ms. Keys. I still love Ms. Keys more though. Alicia is more of blues/r&b/jazzy/raspy type singer. (lyrical alicia is an alto) To compare these two is kind of unfair because they both have different vocal ranges.

Nah. Their vocal fachs deem it so. Ashanti is a lyric soprano, she going to have a better head voice, more agility in her upper range and a clearer voice though she can be nasal at times in her middle voice. Alicia, though not as clear has a warmer voice and more power. So it's not shocking actually.

Ashanti is defiantly a mezzo she loses alot of clarity when hitting anything over a C5 in mid voice. Lol Ashanti really doent have alicia beat to far with her upper register either lol ive seen Alicia doing a warmup and hitting a b5 with more clarity than ashanti, and she didnt go flat the way Ashanti did at that football game. If Ashanti is a soprano her upper register sure is lagging compared to amy lee(another lyric mezzo) and kat deluna(also a mezzo).
