Used to play this on the arcade, and its very challenging and addictive. You had to keep tapping the stick to the right to run. If you stopped tapping mid-air in a spring-board jump, you'd fall into the water. Heaps better than it looks.
@JasonLee215 - sorry you're wrong on all counts.. the ST having a faster CPU than a C64 has nothing to do with it.. like I've said previously go and read the articles.. compare properly all the conversions against the arcade and realise just what they achieved on the C64 version compared to the rest. The controls on the C64 are fine.. you obviously have a crap controller or are trying to play it on an emulator..
This has got to be THE worst version of PacLand I have ever seen. You cant even control the jumps! Even the Atari Lynx version puts this to shame. There really is no excuse. Amiga could have run an arcade perfect version flawlessly. Why they released this catastrophe is beyond me. They obviously did not have testers try it out prior to release!
the C64 version was a hundred times better than this and even closer to the arcade version.. This version got panned in all the Amiga magazines when it got released..
how the fuck did you know when to jump when going back over the water? Games nowadays are so much easier than in the 80s. I remember playing this game in the local arcade when I was 15. I am ashamed that I couldn`t get past the first level. I now know where I went wrong. Thanks for posting.
99% of Amiga games were pretty much identical to an existing ST version, sadly. I have to note here, the character animation is very poor in this convertion...
He kept spitting just like the creature from David Lynch's Eraserhead. The fleshy Pacman kept beconing me to play an almost hide and seek like game with him! I shit myself as he hid out of sight! I looked up at the cross above the alter to see a crucified pac! Weird shit i know!
I love the church at the end of level 1! I had this really strange nightmare about it! There was a door to the front of the church and I walked thru it. I really don't know what compelled me to do so, i guess i was burning with intrigue! As I walked in i could see all the usual; pews and alter plus stained glass windows. To my absolute sheer horror as i looked toward the alter there was this fleshy skin coloured pacman hiding behind the alter, blood caked around his mouth......continued
I remember having a very surreal nightmare about the church featured in this very game at the end of level 1. I dreamt that there was a door at the front of the church and i walked in thru it. As i looked past the pews upto the alter I saw a fleshy looking pacman with blood round his mouth bubbling away. He wasn't yellow with red boots as characterised in the game. Just fleshy and wanting to play an almost hide and seek game. He kept spitting and hiding behind the alter!

I don't care about how bad the game is, I played this as a young child and loved it, ESPECIALLY the music!

@pokemario6456 - play the C64 version and find out - and go and read all the reviews in the Amiga magazines from that time and you'll find out again!

It used to make me so upset.

I remember seeing this game for 20 quid in the '80s. I would rather have spent that on the (much better) arcade machine. Thanks for the video anyway.
