Wish this mini-series would be posted up on YouTube. :-( From what I have seen it looks pretty good. Does a person have to read the book series to understand the show or is it understandable enough without?
@Ashleyls17 It's not absolutely necessary to read the books but it is a definite plus. Frank Herbert has a very unique writing style full of details and grandeur that's lost on film. I love both the movie and the TV series but they are interpretations of the original works. I think it's best to read the novels and see them in the "theater of the mind" before you see them on screen.
What I love about Leto is how he goes to such great lengths to prevent anyone from ever repeating what his father and he were able to do. A tyrant on a mission to prevent that tyranny from repeating itself, that is a leader.
Through inner peace we find bliss. Withstanding and opening to bliss is the key to cohesive emotion. Practised on a regular basis, this allows cells to access their memory (healing). Welcome the healing pain and dive right into the middle of it, give it all of your attention only until you feel the blissful tingle of the regenerating cells. As healing takes place, transformative evolution of the DNA occurs and we become immortal 5th dimensional beings.
@MrLecreuset LOL ...Name of the song is : "Inama Nushif", a soundtrack from Children of Dune 2003 , lyrics are written by Brian Tyler and sung by Azam Ali
So one begins to wonder what is going to happen to the human race. Technology keeps on advancing with greater and greater power, either for good or for destruction.
David Bohm
One thing Dune has done. It has open the mind to new levels of seeing the world around one.
For one start think this is all fun and play. But then try and go looking for David Bohm as simple example. And things he see and feels, make one really wonder!
lol, no doubt...herbert sellz a gazillion copies of the first book, then spends the rest of the series trashing the protagonist...great writer, though
@jcfbell3001 That was his intention from the start. I remember reading somewhere that we should always beware of superheros and that we should always make up our own mind. Humanizing Paul I thought was a need because He was still a human being not just a super man.
thanx for the well-spoken reply...i personally never considered paul to be a 'superman' when i read the first book, just a guy with a genetically inherited talent that he developed and used...the myth of him being a god didn't start until the second book, so the people around him could create a power structure around paul...but that, and Paul's refusal in the later books to accept the 'golden path', just seems made-up to create drama between him and leto...that's just my take on it..
@jcfbell3001 It was to show the difference between Leto II and Paul. Paul did not want to take that path because of the deaths and what would happen to his humanity. Leto took the path because of Paul's choice and began to take the last sips of his humanity. Leto became the tyrant needed to break humanity from prescient beings and one singular entity like himself or his father. Seriously I considered the sequels unnecessary but they were still better than most scifi at the time. Just my take.
Yeah, that's for sure, they are still incredibly well-written...have you read the prequels? I couldn't get through the first one...stilted dialog, zero characterization, none of herbert's 'grandness' - i don't know what else to call it...
@jcfbell3001 I thought the story they tried to tell was beyond their grasp. The House series was atrocious but had some good parts to it. Their characterization was .... ugh horrible. Their Jihad series was a bit better but still suffered from said problems. Heck their Dune 7 duo logy was another better attempt but still had characters acting out of character and plus it did not fit what I thought Herbert was trying to go for. Since those two books I have not touched the Dune series new entries
@paulofduneemperor maybe if they tried to make it simple, the book itself i had to read repeatedly and read books 1-6 again to get the idea of what was going on and what was the golden path. If they let someone who knows the Dune universe best or knows what the fourth book is trying to show and what the previous three were then yes It would have been a great entry despite the lack of action.
@paulofduneemperor Quite honestly? I think a cartoon or anime style cartoon of Dune would be the best possible way to do Dune because the effects required are just...insane. It could be done with lots of live action and CG but it's so high concept that it couldn't recoup costs in the theater. Better for it to be an animated feature.
@Ohitika54 Nah If done right it would have been good. I thought they did a pretty good job of presenting what the Dune series was really about. That was showing a world enslaved by one man's vision, then being broken by a tyrant and set free upon his death, and then a universe full of surprises where man is free to live moment to moment. Honestly, I think Herbert was wiser than most of us even suspect.
it's kinda cool how they first relied on one man who then wanted them to rely on themselves...the dune books end with one person who rules over the entirety of te universe. Damn, I wish he'd talk to a dune fan about it
@t260y Well, the whole point in the books of Leto ruling the whole universe was for him to teach humanity a lesson about enforced peace, as well as breed a gene for invisibility to prescience into the Atreides. So in a way, he did make it so that people HAD to rely on themselves once he died.
@SableRhapsody I know...but the gene wille eventually make its way to everyone eventually. WIch means that there;s no reason for it now. Did you read what happens in the end of dune that his kid wrote?
@SableRhapsody I never got to read the ones after that! I don't own a copy of god emperor yet, but I have read it. I still haven't read heretics yet. I don't read them either, but I read a summary of what happens in their books once in a while
@devlandiablo depends on if we can learn to form our own opinions and understand others. Chaos is usually preferable to enforced tranquility or complete apathy to choice. I think that kind of freedom is truly grand and is what life is chaotic series of moments that are impossible to foresee.
So I have chosen...to make a world where humankind can create its own future...from moment to moment...free of one man's vision...free from the perversion of the prophet's words...and free of future pre-determined.
peace...

But people making their own future moment to moment is chaos- can we ever be free of any prophet's words, of the future others determine for us?
