@CatapultYourMom If your referring to the nazi-soviet pact, that was a stradegy by stalin set in place because he realised war with germany was inevitable. He realised the only possibility for victory was to stall hitler and build up his army, convinced hitler would not fight a war on 2 fronts if russia had a built up army and that germany would invade west Europe instead. The alliance was simply a stradegy not a friendship.

The pact was in effect until june 22 1941 when germany invaded russia after russia stayed nuetral for 2 years. they were never friends. It was a stradegy on both parts. Hitler not wanting to make the same mistake germany did in WWI with a 2 front war, and russia realising it couldnt take on germany. Germany and russia even had a proxy-war with the spanish civil war in 1936 lol.
