  • Is 9017 GWR Earl of Berkeley permantly at the Bluebell or is she on loan?

    And nice video

  • Hi mike just wondering if ur going to put the footage up of the video u took on the footplate of the old girl.

  • How did you know that? Were you on the charter?

As a matter of fact the crew requested that I did not do so and I have respected their wishes.

  • sorry chap i was one of the helpers who got the engine ready in the morning sorry to confuse u.

  • Ah I see now! I checked your name from the list of attendees and couldn't find it, so it was a bit mystifying.

Yes, I asked Kevin, but he told me he would rather I didn't show it.

You guys did a great job on cleaning the engine - she looked spotless. I met Tom and another chap - was that you? Did you get a turn on the footplate?

  • ah right dam lol. yh i was the chap with grease top shapped like a berret. i helped u down off the footplate when we got by the tunnel.

  • ahh so thats wear shes been ive beenwonderin thnks

    gd vid 5*

  • Thanks.

She's probably back on the Bluebell by now.

  • An absolutely astounding piece of video, quaint and timeeless, you could have almost thought you were back in the good old haydays until it came to the shot of a bunch of lads in hvv's by the road..I loved every second of this video..tanks for posting it..keep em coming..

  • Thanks Jonny

Glad you enjoyed it. Sorry about the lads in the hi-viz vests, hope my touch of post-modern ironic humour didn't spoil it too much!

  • Nice video there Mike. Lovely to see the Dukedog really going for it at places. Loved the shots at Bewdley and the pan around 2:30!

  • Thank you, but I don't understand the 'paround around 2:30'. I was eating fish and chips on Bridgnorth Station at the time!

  • I mean the minutes in the video.

  • Sorry, I coldn't resist the opportunity for one of my stupid jokes! The fish and chip owner was a bit taken aback when a dozen or more of us walked in at closing time. Alas many were still wearing their hi-viz jackets.

  • Haha yeah, I don't like people who wear high-viz when they are not on the line, they just get in the way of your shots

  • Very nice! Somehow, the "Earl" just doesn't look right on the "Bluebell".

  • probs because the bluebell is mainly southern with all the stock and stations, whereas the svr is a proper gwr branch

  • Its a very vintage loco one of very rare early GWR examples left.

  • It's not that old: 1936 I think. I have to admit the two component locos were much older than that!

  • Yep thats right. Bulldogs and Dukes are the older parts aren't they?

  • Yeah I could be wrong but it might be a rebuild of the original Earl class.

  • Pitty its based at the Bluebell eh Ryan

  • Ahh the Bluebell preserved it, but I have nothing against that.

  • Yeah but pitty its not based at a GWR railway.
