Can people stop arguing? Both Macs and PCs have pros and cons. PCs are customisable, a lot cheaper and don't crash and get loads of viruses if you know what you're doing. However, a few laptops that I've bought have fallen apart slightly. Macs are overpriced, made to be as easy to use as possible and don't really get viruses; which is probably why people who have no clue about computers buy them. However, they tend to last longer and hold their value. Mac or PC? It's personal preference.

In other words: A mac is only good if you're using always up to date or first party programs to the exclusion of everything else. The slightest alteration from any update breaks support for things and often causes them to crash the mac.

For someone like myself who plays games or uses any application that requires backwards compatibility with even updates to the same version of the OS, a mac is not a sensible choice. I can easily use and configure a windows computer, keep it secure, and keep it's system integrity high, but the last time I tried to install a program on a mac (Skulltag Mac version), I caused the computer to be bricked by installing the SDL.

Yep MACS suck...that's why you see MOST of the artists, musicians, producers, editors, animators, directors, DJ's, graphic designers, and other creative types using them. A friend of mine is running a MAC right now that I bought in 1997 and it runs just fine and he's running electronic music software on it from that era. Show me a Windows machine from 1997 and I'll show you a piece of shit in a land fill somewhere.

most of the artists i know that uses mac, have no idea how to use a mac. They just know to browse and Photoshop. my friend, who i go to art school with, has a problem with her facebook. you know what's the problem was, she hasn't done a software updated in a year. everyone i know that has a mac just go to apple store or tekserve and have "apple guru' fix the problem. plus alot of animation studios don't use mac, they use either linux or pc. pixar uses linux based system.

I guess my main point has always been that Macs out of the box are just easier to get going and seem to be more solid, reliable and tend to last longer. There are the 1% techies on both sides who love to fiddle with their machines.

Many people like it though, like the software that comes installed on a mac, and is sometimes even the reason people switch to a mac. Like imovie is better than movie maker. Preview is better than Windows picture and fax viewer. The bluetooth device manager/file exchange is better than Window's. Safari is better than I.E. Macs also have iweb

So windows pretty much has shit installed. sure you can go get other software but good luck finding something that's free and can compare to Apple's.

PCs have tons of free software. You know why? people make it, it costs them nothng and its a hobby. Foristence, audacity, free made by neither company and is good software. your right most software that comes with a pc is crap, i for one get rid of it. As for web browsers i hate safari and i use firefox or my own web browser that i made because you can do that easily with PC. in fact making all kinds of software is easy on PC.

making software is also easy on a mac. and don't say "well it's better on a PC" like a huge fanboy might say. and it's hard to find good free software like for video editing that can compare to imovie only it probably won't be able to, unless it's going to cost you something. imovie for mac has no additional cost because because it's included in iLife. iLife comes free on a Mac. if there was imovie for windows it would cost probably 50 or 200$ for iLife, but apple would never do that.

you might not say it's just as good, but it's all about personal preference. Therefore, there's not a real reason to be arguing over which system is better. But a mac would be best for an average person who can afford a mac. A PC would be good for someone who does or does not have a lot of money but enjoys playing games on the computer and possibly is only familiar with Windows.

In my opinion: once you go Mac, you never go back.

Audacity blows. Seriously. I'm a musician and I used it for a year before I got a mac. And it sucks. You can't even set measures/bars/metronome up. There is no open source audio workstation that even compares to what garageband can do.

Personally, I use Logic Pro 8, but I used garageband for a year.

If you think GB is the reason to buy a mac, you're insane. GB is great, but the entire system kernel is different from windows. It's much more stable and requires less RAM. There are many programs for PC that can compete with GB, but windows has never been as stable. Learn2computer.

I just finished a 30 sec. animation for a national competition and somehow was able to do it on a mac. I worked on mac and nothing else for 6 weeks and made a conclusion. I did underestimate macs, however they are overated. Yes they're nice and i didn't have a problem, they are not as good as all the mac-zealots say they are. I used final cut pro which is amazing by the way, and its sound editor is equaly good. All in all a good computer, but not worth the hype.
