  • these are the words i sing to this song; i know nothing that's best/ i'll

slave at our carnival/ i know nothing that's best/ i'll slave at our carnival

again/ on the bosom or the breast/ of the poorly paid of the best/

i know nothing that's best/ i'll slave at our carnival. my lovingness check/

    my Tunstall/ i should worship you/ i should/ what should i hold you?/

    i suggest/ i should/ what should i bless you?

  • @posypity Lol your busy,thanks my friend :)

  • @shum65 glad i made you lol [busy being crazy more-like]

this might be blind, dumb and deaf but for the first line of

iceblink luck i sing 'stealing to Belinda Lang' [she's really

    very pretty]

  • @posypity I actually did a cover of this track some years ago ,

its my fave from my top CT album, glad you enjoyed this amazing

track to,really loved doing its video, which consists of many old pictures

of me over the years lol :)

  • @shum65 wow, you looked so different. 'i am still the same'

though it does help being 2 stone underweight [i get the

Dorian Gray stares] now i like to think of you looking like a

young Henry James[my favorite author] you should do a

video in the vein of the turn of the screw, i liked the color you

put in the b/w. why not do a whole video in such sepia washes

going through the rainbow shades one by one [or from pink

to orange to red] wow you did a cover? pray, under what name?

  • @posypity Haha lol some of the photos were from 1981, this was

a break through video for me, being more experimental I guess, still really

like it,and the song is my fave from the mighty Garlands album,

Henry James, he lived in Rye east Sussex didnt he,in Lamb House?

One of my fave places, one of my fave authors was EF Benson who

also lived there, and wrote the Mapp & Lucia books,

Oh I never released my cover of this song, its just for personal use, I have

    recorded as myself 4 decades

  • @shum65 now i'm jealous...i looked up master Benson and he

does appear to conform to my maxim of 'a writer should write

more books than he reads.' i'm reading 17 james's at the same

time at the moment so i've got my work cut out. rye is on my wish

list as well as southsea. i once went to a record fair, picked up a

couple of cocteau magazines and then went on a felt pilgrimage

to Water Orton. it wasn't watery at all like i'd imagined. oh, dear

i'm wittering on. do take this 'play' down.

  • @posypity You'll love Rye, its a cobbled dream on a hill,

My fave TV series of all time Mapp & Lucia was all filmed

around the medieval town, you must stay in the Mermaid Inn :)

  • @shum65 am listening to M&L at the mo. on talking c.d. after

disc one i give it a Lazy Calm out of ten [my top marks would

be a Three Swept/10 and lowest a Half Gifts from M&K/10].

the concept of a battle using weapons of tea making sounds

    right up my cobbled street.

  • @posypity Good to hear from you my friend, you always

put a smile on my face with your comments :)

  • @shum65 recently i've thought i'm acting up to a stage

like a star-struck eleven year old...its good to hear from

you too. i'm sure i'm O.D.'ng on C.O.D. with all my

    cocteauchat.

  • @posypity Haha, no worries my friend, always fun to hear

from you, you can never chat enough about this amazing band :)

  • What was it told ? New Cold Wave ? For me it was the new unknown, never heard voice and so catchy melody, what followed, you know of, long live Scottish bands !

  • @Blamberweiserscheise Hi there, guess its what ever you

want to call it, some say Post Punk, others Goth, I always said at

the time Indie, eitherway its brilliant my friend :-))

  • @shum65 Agree, but brilliant could be a euphemism talking of The Cocteau Twins ;)

Their music belongs to an era, I would tend to name it Indie New Wave because the years that saw them emerging were the eighties but I know one always tend to put a label on each band. What we can be sure of is that they were not mainstream and this being I call it more poetically Ethereal music ;)

  • @Blamberweiserscheise Also, I wonder if they drew their inspiration from a 1951 book by Guy des Cars called "La Brute" where the story is about someone who is blind dumb and deaf.

  • @Blamberweiserscheise Hi there my friend, I always thought of

them as an indie band back in the day, but now I just dont label

music at all, I just like it, best way lol :)

  • garlands is such a great album! so happy that i got to see them live in a pretty small club - amazing :-)

  • @lanerlily Garlands is my fave album also, wow you were indeed

lucky to see them live my friend :-))

  • So dark and yet so beautiful.

  • @ditimely Exactly right my friend,and what a mix :))

  • this is so incredible! first song I ever heard by Cocteau Twins, it still gives me chills

  • @thinkofmusic Me to my friend, luv this track, my fave one,

from my fave CTs album. :))

  • Absorbing and perhaps visually disturbing video well made.

  • @edenviews Thanks my friend, glad you enjoyed it :)

  • i'd feel unpatriotic against Simon if I didn't say I prefered all the other albums

over Garlands. I find it too Joydivisiony. though its still great. There's just none

of Simon's honeybeedguitar and its lacking Liz's funfillaries. always thought

    the cover star was Ariel.

  • @posypity Hi there my friend, Simon sure added a totally

new dimension to the bands sound, and helped to bring them

to a wider audience, I love Garlands for its darkness and rawness,

both musically and vocally its sends goosebumps in abundance.

Thanks for your comments posypity :))

  • Y'know man..I could spend hours on your channel..it's a total escape lol albeit into.4AD land:)) !!

Garlands is by fay my fav Cocteaus album..It still totally blows me away.almost futuristic for it's time.,I am glad I was a young lass back in the north in the 80's as I got to see the best bands..Dead CanDance+Liz with This Mortal Coil...magical!

.Haven't said hello to you for a while my friend,so I'll send you a hug too;)..luv Sophie x

  • @MsMagicalCat Awe cheers Sophie, thats really kind of ya :))

Garlands is my fave CTs album to, love its bleakness and its

rawness of both vocal and sound, I agree it was a great time to

be of age hearing the new and exciting sounds of the late 70s early

80s, we were indeed lucky, hey big hugzz back at ya XxX ;-[))

Nice to hear from you again dear friend :)

  • thats kind of awesome

  • @xxtiaan Its my fave from the Garlands album my friend :)

  • @shum65 everyone was mad for heaven or las vegas, this is way better, kind of dark, I think garlands is the better album.

we need a shoegaze revival, I really miss bands that sound like ride and curve etc...

  • @xxtiaan Hi there, I so agree my friend, Garlands is still my fave

album by them, love its rawness and energy, yay we certainly need

a shoegaze revival again ...!!!! thanks xxtiaan Xx :)

  • @shum65 actually there has been one, but Im not a huge fan of "nu-gaze". I think its the shoe equivalent of nu metal, have you heard witchouse? look up 'Salem asia' or 'Salem sick', I cant post a link, but i think youll be pleasantly suprised.

  • @xxtiaan Hi there,no never heard of witchouse sounds interesting tho?

Wil look it up my friend, have heard of Nu-Gaze tho,not bad thanks xxtiaan :)

  • @shum65 hey shum i was wondering do you like stuff like Death in June or Current 93??Throbbing Gristle??

  • It's the musical equivalent of being lost on a lonely moor on a late Autumn afternoon

  • @thevessel69 Sounds good 2 me.... :)

  • M A S T E R P I E C E. Don't forget Mr Heggie's role in this and every track on the album. Pivotal.

  • @bufon63 Totally right my friend, Will's bass is legendary throughout the Garlands album, plus all

of their early tracks, its good to hear from someone who realises how important Will was to the band...!!!!

Your the first to mention the great man to me mate....wished their was more who realised how talented-

Heggie is.....good to hear from ya bufon63...!!!

  • @shum65 Hey Shum:) All hail Mr Heggie, criminally overlooked, underrated, and anonymous. Criminal! Nice to hear from you too. Will send you a PM later :)

  • I started buying up big speakers after I played this.! Got it right eventually, after many complaints from the landlord downstairs. I moved!

  • @harrisonaard1 Loud and proud this should be played mate..ha-ha...

that landlord must have been mad....good for you moving...

  • Yaaahhhh Garlands!! God I loved this ..this reminds me so mych of my 1st boyfriend,1st flat....1984/85...the air looked oermaantly like dry ice in that flat with the aroma of great hashish.incense+patchouli oil...I can close my eyes +I'm there..hmm...Garlands jad to be one of there darker albums.still my favourite tho...Bloodbitch..,yep ,drove the neighbour's mad:))) thankyou, you take me bacj to when I was happy...blue hair:))

Blood Bitch is another classic your so right, hows that blue hair doing..ha-ha..!!

Great to hear from you my friend, you have fab memories, thanx for sharing.. :))

  • One of my new favourites .. Don't know why it took me so long to get into it!!

  • @jammybin2 Hiya m8, glad your a fan of this awesome track too, its my fave from the LP.

Those guitars and Liz's vocals give goose-bump heaven here....!! :))

  • @jammybin2 good for you!

  • A unique and special band...I loved this album from the start, also Victorialand. It was stolen years ago, then when I bought a new copy, I was surprised to see the title of the song "Blood Bitch" had been changed to "Blood Bath"!!??

  • @skwijeebob1 I,m so glad your a fan of the awesome "Garlands" album to, I love it....

and Victorialand is heaven sent, both always give me goosebumps.... :))

I have heard that before about "Blood BItch" changed to "Blood Bath" maybe the-

powers that be dont like the word Bitch? I love it...

Hey its great to hear from ya my friend, your so right about the Cocteau Twins being-

    a Unique and Special band..totally agree.....!!!!! ( :-)

  • @shum65 Nice to hear from you too, yeah it's funny how you can't understand a lot of what Liz sings, but you can easily hear "bitch" in that song! Yeah undoubtedly moronic record company pressure forced that change, as if CT fans would care! cheers from downunder...OZ that is!

  • @skwijeebob1 Hiya or should that be gday...its cool to hear from ya m8, I think your

the first person I,ve heard from in Australia, hope your alright over their, we,ve been

I sent a message to Will Heggie today on about that stupid change with Blood Bitch-

to Bath? he was the original 3rd CT at the start, a great guy too.

Good to hear from ya mate..!! :)

  • @skwijeebob1 i agree wholeheartedly

their best live...when it was good,it was so

    Awesome....

Your so right, like nothing before or since.!

    Cheers ferrylad...!!!

  • Their best song off their best album! Pure minimalism, with the strong foundation of bass and beat, perfectly capturing the raw essence of beautiful melancholy. I lose myself in the Sacred Mathematics of their urgent and droning repetition, with Liz as an ethereal Angelik guiding voice from Beyond. Bliss. Thank you for making and sharing this video, I'm 40 living in Oklahoma and I've loved them since 87

  • Hi hekone...I so agree with you my friend..

You have worded it beautifully for sure..!!!

I love the rawness and atmosphere all the

classic "Garlands" songs have...its an LP

    like no other....

I,m so pleased you enjoyed this video,

its a big fave video of mine, and the song

is such a classic...my fave too.....!!!

Many Thanx hekone100....Its really good to hear from ya.....!!!

  • @beowulven Cheers my friend, its a pure classic, and I loved

every second doing its video, it was such an honour.....

Just love the whole of the "Garlands" album....class...!!

  • @hekone100 --- what a perfect description! what a great performance. Beyond Bliss is right.

  • @hekone100 I am pleased to see that it is still possible for someone in Oklahoma, of all places, to somehow cross paths with the cocteau twins. I suspect you are well educated and met someone from Europe or Canada who spread the good word about this fantastic music. Whatever the story, I am hopeful for your state and country, but not much.

  • brillIant song.. an epic post-punk anthem . Great video too

  • Cheers TheD2JBug...your so right mate,

this is such a brilliant track for sure...

    My fave from "Garlands"

I,m pleased you enjoyed my video mate,

    much appreciate your comments...!!!

  • I must also add, you had to of spent a lot of time and creativity into these videos for sure. You could be easily making income from this, yeah? I don't have the kind of editing equipment or time to put bring this kind of special quality to the table, but you are of some of the very best I've seen thus far, no doubt. I'm already 34, but since I was really young (10,11, 12,) I've wanted to work on music projects. I mean it's built up for so long in my head, eventually, I'll actually make someth..

  • Hi mate, yeah they have taken many hours to create these videos, but such fun to do, Money.!! whats that..?? ha-ha...I wished... I always use MovieMaker in my lap-top... its really easy to use with practise, I,m no expert at all, but I just enjoy doing videos 2 such brilliant music... Massive thanks for you top comments..!!! your very kind mate, hey, I,m 44, so it took me even longer to get started.....ha-ha..!! You should give it a go my friend.. Thanx again INITIALSJE...
  • This was their best album. This song...is what it will sound like upon your death; when the angels or demons arrive to escort you to wherever your next transubstantiation will begin. It sounds like a life that was lived well - but is now over. It is a beginning as well as an end.

  • Cheers wall...your so right, my fave album

    also...so raw and powerfully delivered...!!

Just like your fab comments ..!!

Much Thanx my friend....Its great hearing from ya....

  • @wall875 Agreed. This is by far their best album. This and Head Over Heels.

  • Hi Johnny, I agree mate..true classics..!!!

  • @wall875 hehehe I like it

  • yumyumyumyumyumyumyum

    ;)

  • Cheers skyvorpal...cool comments mate.!!

  • DAVE....who are you?

  • Hi mate..I,m all over this video,checkout-

1.25 and 1.34, you,ll see black and white

photos of me,plus through-out the video
