I would love to see knife making in general, but the process from blank to finished grind and bevel on metal reduction or the process of forging and grinding, if you still do that. I remember the pathfinder blade you made for Dave way back and still have covetous fits over that knife!
I just noticed that this video was uploaded December, 2008, so it's been a while since you've done anything publicly. (It's now Feb., 2012) ... Hope everything is copesetic!
I realize this is a response to an older video but I hope you are still reviewing your presentation. My question is whether you have tried other materials or even a slightly thicker cord in wrapping a handle, and how did it work out?
This was very instructive and thank you for posting.
That thruly helper me, it does an awsome grip and gives a cool look to everything, but I was wondering if there was a way to do it without making hole in the knife, because I would like to do it on a tomahawk handle.
hey man thanks for this video one of my knives i recently got had this style of paracord wrap on it but the para cord broke and these are the only videos i could find on this style of wrap.
I have to agree this cord wrap is by far the best cord wrap. I have tried different cord wraps , That was a good demonstration on how to do the knot I liked the knife shape as well
Great videos man very easy to follow unlike most videos on youtube! But hey i would love to see some of the knifes you make and how you make them and maybe do a vid on how to do a wood handled knife? thanks
@theoriginalwah he really does sound just like seth rogan. I swear it sounds like the green hornet was telling me how to paracord a knife handle in this vid
I notice that this knife is dark on the outside but bright on the inside.... did you laminate 2 different kinds of metal together and if so could you please tell us how and why? Thank you
hey dude good video. maybe you could do a video about knife sharpening if you have the time? im trying to get a full tang knife and it comes blunt so i want to know before i get it
HI ROSS: I just wanted to say thanks for sharing your method of cord wrapping ,I just finished up a tactical knife I have and,it turned out great. Your technique and instruction are spot on,really nice work, good job man .
like that style of wrap. not a big fan of having holes in my handle. looks like you could start that off with a single piece of para-cord but is their a way to finish with a tuck or something ? great idea on the notches.
like that style of wrap. not a big fan of having holes in my handle. looks like you could start that off with a single piece of para-cord but is their a way to finish with a tuck or something ?
never cord wrapped like this before but it is pretty good though,i didnt think it would come out as nice as it did its real tight and secure.thanks for the demo.
Thanks had an old Military Bayonet that had no handle broken a long time, wrapped it while watching the video worked great, only had to finish it off a little differently. but hey it did the job thanks for the video.
Great video, easy to follow! I found a boy scout hatchet dating from the 1950's that I want to tie a 'para cord, twist type ' grip on the metal handle. I have removed all of the rotted leather, and found the metal to be concaved in the center part of where the grip will be. So, should I fill that with some material, before I attempt the para chord twist? Or, is there a better method of putting a new handle on a hatchet, as opposed to a knife? Thanks.
That does look pretty slick. I like this better than a wooden handle because it's easier to put on and take off and it has a nice feel to it. It's not as smooth or lacquered so it doesn't slip. I did this on mine as well but with no middle hole. I'm assuming that's acceptable. I do need help with the polishing though. I use a flap wheel on an angle grinder for finishing but it's not quite perfect. What do you think would be best for this problem?
Thanks for the video. It makes learning a lot easier than just looking at pics. I'll try it out soon. I hadn't thought about adding the 'divots', but it seems like it could help stabilize the wrap. I like the water-dip idea, too.
Great demo!! I always dip mine in boiling water for a few seconds...shrinks everything up a bit, and locks it in solid, making it feel like part of the knife.
just a tip that i've heard about, if you soak the paracord in water then kinda run it through your fingers to get most of the water out before you wrap it, it will shrink a little when it dries to make it a bit tighter. I cant say for sure how well it works but i thought you might want to give it a try and see if you like it, keep up the great vids.
Hey man you said to tell you new video Ideas. I would love to see how you sharpen knives. I have a very rough knife made from a thick piece of steel. could you tell me how to sharpen it?
he didnt nmention you cant cord wrap a normal ground blank you need to curve the edges or it wont last due to hand pressue guilotening the para cord.honestly though not a good wrap as you still need to polish the handle underneath cos the gaps are so big sort of defies the point ...my opinion use a cobra stitch instead can be adapted from the braclet threads on youtube much neater also
@lyndon2472 First thing, it would take a lot to actually slice through paracord that way. you don't "need" to round it. Second, the point isn't to cover the handle, it's to provide traction. and it does this perfectly.
@nickbownz then the grind on the knife handle is sub standard work you will cut paracord with a handle ground for a set of scales unless you round them off period. and yes traction is the main point of wrapping the handle but also if you make your own knives like me and heat treat them then you have to cover the handle or polish it as it is covered in scale of course on production knives they are rounded and polished or coated allready .
@lyndon2472 I think it is generally understood that a knife blank will be a finished one, as in scale removed. even if not, doesn't matter. it's under the cord. and unless there is a SERIOUS burr on the edge, the paracord will be just fine.
@nickbownz lol im makeing knives comercially i think i know what im talking about even the instructions that come with knives that are inteded to be self paracord wrapped say you may need to round off the edge .
typical unedjucated weak mind resorting to name calling by the way you must be american ...lets hope the next 9-11 is a bit closer to your house
@lyndon2472 You know, 9/11 was more of an international attack than most people think. People from all over the world died in those towers, even 67 people from the UK. Think about that before you swing it around as an insult to Americans.
very nice....I was wondering, If I soak leather strips, stretch them tight and use this same method, when the leather dries, it would tighten even more. but My question was , have you used leather for this , and is it pretty durable?
Good video and very thorough...I'm a newbie at making knives...I need tips on everything so all of those small sections of the knife making process that you want to post a video about would be excellent. I'm at a process now where I need to harden and temper a knife I pounded out of a coil spring. I don't much of anything about the finishing processes
i would almost suggest staggering the placement of the twist from front to back because i personally have trouble lining it up but i know you mentioned that you can choose the placement yourself.
Awesome video, i was somewhat surpirsed to know that you wrap the same way i do, but i was only ever using one piece. two pieces of cord definitely seems like the way to go. Thanks for the help!
nice vid. i'm. i'm gonna make my first knife soon and i think i'll make it a paracord wrap handle instead of wood. check out some of my knife reviews.
wow !!! great video !!! Im interesting in knife making (not professionally, just for my salve). If any way you can explain and show of what is advantage and disadvantage of different type of steel , what is your suggestions on knife making equipment and what is entire process of knife making...
Truly awesome video dude. Hope to see more from you. anything you could post on here about knife making would interest me, and I'm sure most people here.
very cool vid... nicely spoken great angle explained in detail....would have liked to seen it done on a finished knife....yea id like to see the vid. were you complete this knife looks very cool. like the dude above sais how about that tamplate id like to make a wooden practice knife.........nice work very solid, bro.
guess wot, i though i had no pants on for a second there, but i do! isnt that wierd!!!!!!!!!! , kay, nice im gonna try that paracord stuff, but idk how to get paracord (idk= i don't know)
i love it. i think you should make a vidio on a sheath, from your cool way of making the handle, im guessing you know a pretty cool way to make a sheath.
Paracord is water resistant, mold resistant, mildew resistant, tougher than hell and has alot more uses than any Micarta or wood/antler handle could ever have. Multi purpose is key to self reliance.
where can i buy this knife at? i love the design and i would like to get one. if not, where can i get the steel that you made the knife out of, becasue on my spare time i love making knives, thanks this worked great!
i may try this using bicycle inner tube .thank you for that,i sent you a vid response,do you think i can do this without any drill holes in the handel?as mine is hollow for storage.great vid
hay man i love making blades and this totaly beats wood handles, its faster and still pretty sterdy. You shuld also show other ways to cord wrap the Blade.
nice tutorial there, my friend did that for a knife I made him, but as a vid request, Id personally like a tutorial of how to make a stacked leather grip.
wonderin . . . just ordered a frost blade and i'm gonna make my own handle on it etc, i was wonderin if you could post a vid on shaping wooden or antler handles
great video, has helped alot. i use a 3-4inch blade with gut hook for skinning (hunting) and prefer cord wrapped as i find commercial knives with wooden handles tend to fall apart over time. i was thinking about making my own knife, but am not sure how to get from a knife blank to a finished knife with minimal tools and cost, wondered if you wud post that. once again gr8 job, cheers, jay.
Yeah, so far it seems everyone would like to see where it is I work on these, so that might be the next video. Sadly, it's far less impressive than one might think, as I've basically hijacked my father's toolshop for workspace - being that it's on a farm/ranch there's all kinds of strange stuff there.
very cool, i'll be trying that

cord is for survival knife...all go it not for show

Paracord is water resistant, mold resistant, mildew resistant, tougher than hell and has alot more uses than any Micarta or wood/antler handle could ever have. Multi purpose is key to self reliance.

Does this wrapping technique work with bigger weapons (like swords?) and can you use leather instead of a cord?
Dawn59er 2 years ago
this method looks even cooler if you use two different colors of paracord

Bloodynavallint 3 years ago
I have heard that if you soak the paracord in water 10 minutes prior to wrapping, when it dries it is supposed to be an even tighter fit.

great video, has helped alot. i use a 3-4inch blade with gut hook for skinning (hunting) and prefer cord wrapped as i find commercial knives with wooden handles tend to fall apart over time. i was thinking about making my own knife, but am not sure how to get from a knife blank to a finished knife with minimal tools and cost, wondered if you wud post that. once again gr8 job, cheers, jay.

How about a tour of where(I don't know exactly what it's called, factory, foundry,...) you make your knives?
LooseLatitude 3 years ago 2
Loose! Hey buddy, what's happenin'?
Yeah, so far it seems everyone would like to see where it is I work on these, so that might be the next video. Sadly, it's far less impressive than one might think, as I've basically hijacked my father's toolshop for workspace - being that it's on a farm/ranch there's all kinds of strange stuff there.
DevilDwarfBladesmith 3 years ago
Pretty much anything related to knife making, no matter how humble it might be, would be impressive to me since I don't know much about it.
Oh and thanks for the video, I've been thinking about wrapping a walking stick with cord and this gave me some ideas.

a thing i'd like to see in another vids would be the equipment you use to make knife
