finnhere2, Good to hear from you, Brendan `O`Dowda had a nice tenor voice, he was the main interpeter of Percy French`s music, His recordings can be had on the web. You Tube has a very good variety of Irish music and song.
Thanks for the heads up Lorgain2, I had already listened to a couple of Mr O'Dowda's songs, including a version of this "Fluter". He had a wonderful voice indeed and must have been an exceptional performer... Yes, I envy the Irish for this music! Here in Finland the Irish music we usually hear here is like "Whiskey in the Jar" etc. so we miss a lot...
Heh, loved this one! Heard it first by The Priests a few days ago and have searched for other performances and this one was fun and catchy! Darn I envy you for your songs you Irish! And for your singers ;-)
Thank you for drawing my attention to this. I just checked the record, and they've put the wrong label on each side! I've now corrected the title above, and added the "real" Shillelagh" as video response above. I guess I should start checking each upload as I do them to avoid mix ups in the future :-)

Enjoying this lovely old song, and singing along getting most of the words wrong and improvising like hell.Who cares he sings this so well.

Very nice, but it's not "With My Shillelagh Under My Arm"--it's "Phil the Fluter's Ball"!
