No secret - I used an underwater camera (Pentax Optio WPi). I turned it on, then put it in the water at the edge of the pond and just let it go for about 10 minutes.
it really is cool and as mrmojo says relaxing to watch and hear... do you know what kind of frogs they are, im in ca. and mine are pacific tree frogs but they just croak you can hear them on my video froggy nights...
This is so cool. I wish that I had a 2 hour loop of this video to play on my TV when I can't sleep. I could watch this all night, with one eye open, in and out of conciseness.... We always captured and grew frog eggs and grew them into tadpoles and frogs as kids. Fascinating.
Hm... those look like they'd become toads, not frogs. Every year I raise tadpoles when the frogs gather in my pool (it's super dirty). This year, I've gotten more than ever before. Mine are a tad smaller, and they come in green and black. They're offspring from the gray Pacific Treefrogs.
I agree, the tadpoles are toads, but the sound you hear is, I believe, frogs mating. the audio and video were captured at two different times (though at the same pond)
flyingscience i am your biggest fan.i have 6 tad poles really awesome and cool video plort p.s. i dont have any friends. p.s.s.please dont make us make us watch the same thing for 8 minutes.
Striped marsh frogs...mine supposedly did cause I only have a few tadpoles left. I'm so sad, someone at school killed my froglet when they sqeezed it too hard. I'm depressed, it was my favourite! AND, I left the tank of with my frog and tadpoles at school. Now I worry for them!
Tad poles all over, what sort are they and parental DNA? I will have to ask; are the simply aquatic or do they come out after they are all grown up and hop around too? Your hands are going to be full* &:8}
Very nice and beautiful, i had a good experiance today alsot with tadpoles and i was lucky to have my camera with me and i posted it in here uncer The Tad pole .

majorshot94 2 years ago
Yep, that's the sound of frogs mating (recorded a few weeks earlier at the same pond)
plort 2 years ago
@plort Actually, these are male frogs singing to attract mates. They are not actually mating at this point.

I believe the frog-sounds are tree frogs (we're in the northeast - so perhaps not Pacific?) - the tadpoles are toads.

I'm fairly certain some frogs do indeed eat tadpoles.

These tadpoles emerged as toads a few weeks later. They were super small and very difficult to see in the grass at first.

The camera is in a pond at the edge where the tadpoles gather. the tadpoles are extremely tiny - about a half an inch long at the most.
plort 4 years ago
Is the camera in an empty aquarium weighted down for filming?
flyingscience 4 years ago
I superimposed the sound of the parents mating on top of the video of the tadpoles - sorry if I didn't make that clearer
plort 4 years ago
well, if there there are tadpoles then I'd think the parents already mated right? Still a cool vid!
