as a digger of music gems iv found 'genesis', in a word awesome - this coming from a led zep fan. beautiful music both gabriel and collins era, magic!! why havnt i found them earlier????!!!
music now just comes and goes, and we rarely remember the artists. but this stuff... WOW. it's stood the test of time, and it's still excellent. LOVE genesis!
This is the first Genesis song I ever heard, and it remains my favorite. It reminds me of one of my fondest Summers (1978), and I NEVER tire of hearing it.
HEY EVERYONE!!! lol, click on my name, and listen to the song on there. its great, if you liek this song, ull love ours. we've had a lot of awards from youtube from most subscribed and most viewed. check us out. you wnt regret what you hear =D.......
Agreed. This commercial track was foreshadowed by "Your Own Special Way" on the Wind and Wuthering album in 1976. This is still a great an genuine classic Genesis track. IMHO the first really commercial track that is just plain bad is "Misunderstandig" on the Duke album - which I otherwise consider the very last great Genesis album. After that it was basically: catching up with the current trend.... Oh well.
I remember seeing Phil Collins in Vancouver in the early 80's. He brought his teenage son onto the stage for the last song, and with two drum sets on the stage they brought the house down.
This is one of the best copies!!!!!! would you rather have a studio reshape the music with out its full substance or would you rather have the artist play the song the way it's supposed to be played.
Here's another song that will forever remind me of one of the happiest times of my life.... driving back to Buenos Aires from Tierra del Fuego with my sister and her family in 1984. I was never more centered in my religion or love in my life...
This song was crucial for Genesis; It was their first hit in America, & to think they almost broke up a year before they recorded it! Punk rock came along & hurt the careers of many prog bands that were huge at that time, but Genesis learned to ignore the trends of music & got better with each album! It's like when hair metal was big & then suddenly grunge took over; Many hair metal bands were out of work, except Bon Jovi; They're still going strong today! They must've learned from Genesis!
Reminds me of blissful afternoon. Snif, tears of joy, memories, past youth ipossibility to amends feelings of past joy and friendly moments inconscious hurting happinness.
High School and meeting my future wife as a fourteen year old. Then folks wonder why we love Genesis so much, the music takes us back to a simpler time. The wonderful memories of youth, good music and a beautiful woman it just doesn't get any better than that.
great song. for some reason it reminds me of hippies and the guy with the beard does too. were hippies involved in the making of it or is it just me making false links where there aren't any?
This was the song that planted Genesis in the top 40 for the first time in the U.S., peaking at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart back in 1978. 30 years later, still sounds awesome! Thank you for sharing!
Yes,its when the band stared moving from "progressive" category,to a more commercial style of music,"And then there were three" (which this song is taken from)being the first of that style.More hit singles were to follow.
The Moog is to Tony's right - I believe he is playing the keyboard for the ARP 2600 in the solo - which is also the huge panel to his left. Search on utube for more info on the 2600 - a classic synth !!

A sign of the pop direction they were heading with a smidgeon of their progressive remnants.
Still... a great track decades later too.
