  • faith no more > red hot silly peppers

  • LOL, this is an awful cover. Mike Patton just chews scenery.

  • MIKE PATTON pwn'd THIS TOWN!!

    screw you haterz!!

    ahahahaaaa

  • I like this version. It makes me wonder how a Pere Ubu cover would have sounded? More poeple know who Sparks are than you think.

  • I bet the Americans don't even know who Sparks are. Not surprised. They're not the first band that don't get credit in their own backyard but are well recieved in Europe when they play. Truly one of the great bands out of America, and they are still playing!

  • this song is very difficult to sing, especially if you have already drunk couple of bottles.

  • @sergey112 Really? I think people can sing it better drunk :)

  • It literally sounds like he yelling "blah blah blah blah blah" in parts. What a terrible cover of a brilliant song. And I'm sure lost on the crowd. Does anyone in that audience know who Sparks is? Actually, I take that back. Only Americans don't know how Sparks is.

  • @bodhinature Sparks is an American band, how ironic.

  • It literally sounds like he yelling "blah blah blah blah blah" in parts. What a terrible cover of a brilliant song. And I'm sure lost on the crowd. Does anyone in that audience know who Sparks is?

  • Amo,tudo que Mike canta, vira cancão original,Mil Voices e seus covers maravilhosos, amo, amo, eternamente, essa música ficou demais com ele.Poder de voz e desenvoltura pra qualquer música,ou todas!

  • Mike Patton and Sparks!!!!

  • The guy in the keyboards doesn't seem to be very impressed with Mike's voice...

  • The guy in the keyboards doesn't seem to be very impressed with Mike's voice...

  • The class for today is , how to f uc k up a great song, step 1, watch that sh!t

  • i don't really like this cover. but it is better than the usual rap-rock from this band

  • @JohnnyLovely2 You don't listen to Faith No More very much, do you?

  • If people are >FNM fans, they should know that they dont give a fuck about sound or swapping vocals with bleeps, squeels and noise! You cant pick on FNM! Thats the beauty of it! GET IT YET FOLKS!?

  • everything went wrong with this song... with whole respect and love to Patton's work, I must admit, Mike sucks here very badly :). Recorder version is so great, it is definitely Sparks' song, not fnm style. I'm going back to listen to cd's version.

  • He mumbles the lyrics he doesn't know. listen closely and you'll see the sounds he makes are nothing like the lyrics much of the time. It's like any recent bob Dylan performance. He can't remember his own lyrics.

  • Damn, the band looks pissed in this concert...

I hope the sound guy was fired :p

  • Siouxsie and the Banshees covered this much better.

  • @pjmpjm99 TRUE!!

  • Saw them at soundwave last night too.... had second row in the centre for the whole thing.... I'd already seen this film clip so I knew the song but everyone around me was like huh ? Great concert too !

  • Comment removed

  • Just saw this live - last song of the encore. Killer

  • yeah, they fucking ruled at soundwave. only reason i went

  • Yes Yes we know it! Please post that version! :)

  • Mike Patton is absolutely great whatever he sings!!!

  • Sounds like Vic Reeves on Shooting Shars singing a song in "the pub singer style" .. curiously enjoyable nonetheless!!

  • yes u r rite, i nearly peed myself, original version is much cooler than this

  • Don´t read this comment if you don't like Death Metal ¬¬...

Check Theory in Practice cover ^^

  • This is like pouring heavy greasy gravy over fresh fruits.

  • Great tribute !

  • I thought that was pretty cool but I can only compare it to Justin Hawkins' version. I haven't heard the original.

  • better than justin hawkins version lol

  • FNM performs this song perfectly...by my opinion this version is much better than the sparks version....

  • Nooo !! Love Faith No More Mike has gorgeous voice live, love Sparks version of this... but this is so wrong for them both!!!!

  • yeah but how fun is it tho

  • Sloppy, poor rendition of a great Sparks song. Faith No More is a great band however Mike doesn't have the vocal prowess that Russell from Sparks has. It just sounds horrible.

  • 1974 you FOOL

    BELOW

  • Faith No More, a master metal band.! We all know they did wonderful reprises of soulm standards, Mike singing like a real crooner. But a eighties hit! no metal band has done it, I mean. Brilliant!!!

  • haha brill >)

  • Genius. Faith No More have always been a piss take band - some people just don't get the joke though! Not as good as the Justin Hawkins version though.

  • this sucks!!! :S

  • Damn ...don't get me wrong I love fnm but this is rape leave this song to the sparks

  • They performed this with Sparks and released it along with another song as a single

  • What a cuckoo for caca is Mike :D

  • oh god

  • Oh my GOD!!!!!!!!! Sensational cover! Better than Sioux ever........

    Thanks for the amazing video.

  • I wonder if they'll play this today in Kaisaniemi...?

  • patton is a fucking legend......

  • The studio version is better.

  • am not a big fan of FNM & am a Sparks fan for 30 yrs no less & must admit - Patton & FNM 've caught the very spirit of the original song. its the best cover of This Town av ever heard.

  • what an awful version of a classic song

  • indeed!!!

  • the voice of serj tankian is a bad imitation of mike patton's voice in this song

  • the lyrics are clever -- learn them?

  • check Roddy out at the start...fucking incredible player.

and respect Jon Hudson, the man can play guitar

  • Great song ...Patton fucked it all up ..but its Patton...one of the best collaborations ever Sparks and FNM

  • Patton has an incredible voice but I don't think falsetto is really his forte.

  • From witch album is this song?

  • 'Plagiarism' by Sparks, 1997

  • Both answers are correct. The version with FNM as a guest is on Plagiarism. Originally released on 'Kimono' in 74. Also there's a third version of this song with an added verse also on Plagiarism and several others as B-sides.

  • it was actuallyy first released on the sparks' album "kimono my house" in 1974.

  • Yeah, but the Faith No More version is on Plagiarism.

  • I've uploaded the FNM version from Plagiarism, check it out.

  • where can i find this FNM version

  • Search for Sparks and Faith no More - This town.... right here on YouTube, or buy the Sparks album called Plagiarism.

  • aii watch it...thats mike patton your talking about

  • Excellent stuff!

Brings back memories of seeing the band perform it in Glasgow not long before they split.

  • 00:48-00:52 makes me laugh every time... Only Mike could get away with something like that.

  • roddy... so amazing...

  • I love Sparks!!!! Dean Menta from Faith No More toured with Sparks and performed on Sparks last 4 albums: Plagiarism, Lil' Beethoven, Hello Young Lovers, and Exotic Creatures of the Deep.

  • Dear Knucklehead,

You might want to know what you're talking about first before you spout off.

#1: FNM co-performed this song WITH Sparks on Sparks' "Plagiarism" release. Do you think he knows the lyrics? Probably better than you do.

#2: If you pay attention the top range of his voice has gone out in this show and he's trying to get through it. Shit happens.

    Sincerely,

    Damagexyz

  • @damagexyz Amazing!!! I truly understand your irritation with some. Gee...Let's just think that we know something...WHEN WE DON'T. Then let's post it because we haven't anything better to do than impress others with our stupidity. That sounds like a clever strategy.

Yes you can clearly hear the lead's voice break. I like how he dropped a full key to recover. The show must go on. Professional!!! This is a difficut song for a man to sing.

  • Note that Patton always sing the same letter uahauh

  • Faith No More covering a classic Sparks song.

  • God, it makes my ears hurt.

  • -meant to go with cugo's laundry list.

  • They're such a phenomenal band, I had faith they'd do an absolutely killer version of such a brilliant song, but I have...

-nah, I can't do it, it's too fucking corny...

  • This version isnt that bad.

It aint a brilliant song to start with.

  • Um, yes it is. Sparks are the greatest pop band of all time.

  • pop = meaningless genre

  • Faith No More (also one of the greats in my opinion) were as much a pop band as Sparks. I'm sure you even know what pop means...

  • What I meant to say was - I'm NOT sure you even know what pop is...

  • lol. But to Call Faith No More Pop is ridiculous. That means its lumped in the same category as Britney Spears, etc.

In fact, I like Faith No More because they DONT just make popular music. Its good to have music that challenges you. I'm afraid that pop rarely is capable of that.

Its usually about fucking record sales.

  • I would go so far as to say that, while FNM had obvious pop influences, they were arguably the diametrically the opposite of pop. Firstly, with all the different influences between the different members of the band, it was always really difficult for radio stations and such to pigeon-hole them, and also, while there are a lot of people who have never even heard of FNM, among musicians they are frequently named as major influences. They've always been a big influence to me as a musician.

  • So Britney Spears is the gold standard when comparing pop music? She's teen pop. There has been so much pop over the years. Beatles were pop..Poison (bad example) is pop. Blink 182, etc. Pop is everywhere: metal, country, punk, classic rock, alternative, etc.

  • I am talking about Pop in the cynical/aesthetic sense (i.e. appeal to as many people as possible, typical song structure, very little instrumental creativity/talent of the musicians). Kid Rock - All Summer Long is what gives "pop" music a bad name. Not skilled bands who create excellent music, then become popular as a side-effect

Its always the same - shit music will always get noticed before bands who are doing really interesting things.

Musicianship will always stand the test of time, however.

  • Im a HUGE FNM fan & really dig the studio version of this but did anonye else notice that Patton rags the lyrics & just sings the same verse over and over again?...he starts off each one with "Daily, exept for Sunday"..everytime.

Probably the only time i ever questioned one of my all time favorite bands..

  • briliant, only Patton could get away with this.

  • Faith no More is my FAVORITE group ever. They've surpassed Megadeth, Danzig, Fleetwood Mac, etc...but "Kimono my House" was the second album I ever purchased (1st was 'Queen - night at the Opera'...at 6 yrs old) and this version BLOWS!!! Mike...I follow everything you do (Fantomas (love!), Tomohawk (super love),Peeping Tom (GREAT), but this...I love Sparks, Man...

  • What about Mr. Bungle?

  • killed utterly killed why take the piss like tht??

  • why is he doing it in a stupid voice?

  • this is just not their area.... sorry guys... this town is just not big enough for you and sparks.

  • I usually like Faith No More but this was utter fucking shit... The worst version of the song I've heard.

  • what the hell is this !!?? how sad......

  • Mars Volta should redo this song as well.

  • patton is the best fucking sore of rock he shit with this song comparing to the original but mike its mike its simply the best

  • what's the name of crap music like this?

    oh yeah,EAR RAPE!

this sung has just been butchered.only sparks original is the best

  • Only ear rape.

I had to come back for a second sitting because since I heard it the first time I have not been able to sit comfortably on my ass. Which brings me back to my earlier ear question.

Maybe my arse violation is an involantary reaction to my bowels recognising a lower form of SHIT by FNM.

    Give it up you losers.

Sparks # 1 (goes without saying)

    Banshees # 2

    Justin H # 3

This wan*er doesn't even know the words let alone how to sing.

Obviously very adept at crucifying a classic

  • just take away the vocals and this would be o.k!

  • he always does that shit live. I don't think he's drunk. I think he tries to create some kind of rock atmostphere live. I don't understand it. I've heard him sing ABSOLUTELY PERFECT live and then he'll do this shit. I think its on purpose.

  • ROCANROLLL ENENENNE!!!!

  • The studio version of this song with Sparks and FNM is way better..possibly the best version I think.I'm a singer and my band has covered this song and no matter how many times I've heard it or sang it, this song is the hardest to remember the words for their order live for some reason.Ya this was a bad performance but its a bitch to sing, was the last song of the show it looks like, and Mike was prob drunk..who knows.Check out the studio and the original Sparks version if you havnt heard them

  • Mike Patton's a teetotaller

    Dirty & wrong, I know.

But to be fair, he was shite with this performance.

And what happened to Big Jim? Who's the guitarist here?!

  • its jon hudson on guitar, played on the last album in 97...he was bass player billy goulds old roommate and friend I guess. He played in some local San Fran. bands but have no clue what he's done since FNM...anybody know? His guitar style was closer to Jim Martins sound than Trey Spruance on King for a Day, although Treys playing was great too

  • since he's getting down with da new homeys with Peeping Tom, he's drinking, smoking weed and being generally "street". hmmm....

maybe these new intoxicants are what's made him say "maybe" to a Faith No More reunion.

Every cloud has a silver lining!

  • When did he say maybe to a FNM reunion? I've never heard him be anything but hostile to the idea.

  • where can one find the studio version of this song? Thanks

  • the sparks album "plagiarism"

  • it was also available as a cd single, which was FNM vs sparks, to me the best version by far.

  • This song came out when I was 8 and I can still remember the lyrics to this day.

I wish that Mike had actually left town before he massacared one of the best songs in the world.

Justin & The Banshees did it justice. This is so offensive I want to stick skewers in my ears.

  • *to be

  • You can tell Pattons vocal limitations on this one, but musically its a good effort. This one must be one of the most vocally demanding songs to sing.

  • sounds like his falsetto is really shot...

That's what screaming every night on tour will do!!!

  • I don't know, i don't think he is trying to pitch perfect on that one. He did sing in an opera didn't he?

  • I know what you mean, but I dont think hes "found" his voice yet so to speak... Listen to his reacent work ;)

  • HOLY SHIT THATS FUCKING SICK. Love this song, Sparks and FAITH NO MORE KICK FUCKING ASS AHH

  • This is almost as good as the original.

Sparks and Faith No More, two of the biggest experimenters in music, for the win.

  • wot a fucking legend, patton is awesome and fnm were so versatile, its shame that it doesnt look like a reunion will ever be on the cards.

  • the best fnm cover song!!!

  • Its important for ignorant people to realize that this song was recorded in the studio with both Sparks AND Faith No More. So was the song "Something for the girl with Everything" or w/e the song is called...

  • Besides...music is about experiment...so everyone who thinks that FNM put shame on Sparks with this cover is a geek...try to do better covers on your own!

  • I think this is a great cover! It is exactly what I expect from FNM...their sound is incomparable...

  • BRING BACK FAITH NO MORE !

  • This is HILARIOUS!!!! He sounds like he forgot the words after "Heartbeat, increasing heartbeat".

  • Great cover! great voice!!

  • i think it is shit, and i love patton and faith no more

  • my goodness, I disagree.. loved the siouxie and the banshees cover, but this one is incredible!!

  • i've noticed that with FNM he sings all the sings "less pretty" perhaps its due to trying to save his voice considering how much touring these guys did. Hard to hit all those high notes AND do the screaming night in night out. thats the benefit of the studio, you get the best take

  • You don't see him live much do you?

  • your retarted..... you suck bet you like wolfmother fag!

  • Why do people get so bent out of shape about patton fucking a song up??? he does it on purpose, get used to it !! my god if you think this is bad you should hear Mr' Bunlges version of Nothing compares, it's soooo bad it's pure genius ! but yeah i think this is awesome :D

  • I think Patton brings lots of attention to bands that would have been undiscovered by newer generations. I see no problem with his tongue in cheek interpretations. What's the problem?

  • Pareil que l'autre... Ils essaient de donner plus d'energie au morceau, mais c'est tout l'inverse. C'est mou...

  • Well said threecundies. Why did they bother? This is shite.

  • If you're going to sing a song, it's usually a good idea to learn the lyrics first. This Sparks' track is a sacred entity to me, and I feel as if my religious beliefs have been violated.

  • I actually think this is great fun. Fair play to Patton for being one of the more creative men in rock. Beats Hawkins version.

  • Please state some evidence about how Mike Patton is lazy and illiterate? as far as i'm aware he never stops working on one thing or another, and running his own record label pretty much means he can read.

anything else you wanna be worng about in front of the world?

  • Usually Mike Patton is fucking great, but man....this is really bad. As a fan of both FNM and Sparks, almost equally, this is very painful to watch.

  • Oh! Dear! I think they should stick to trying to impress fifth form quasi-intellectual males. It seems SPARKS are a step up too far...leave it out guys! Leave the `clever stuff` to the big boys! Good try though...I`m sure a few fifteen year olds in the audience wet their pants?

  • Oh dear indeed. If you knew anything about Mike Patton/Faith No More you would know that he is one of the most intellectual, innovative and talented individuals on the face of the planet. and also one of the most respected musicians in the business, which is probably why when they recorded this in the studio, they did it in conjunction with Sparks, and the product of two of the greatest/weirdest bands ever was simply stunning. Yes, this version ain't great, but Patton likes to dick around :P

  • Oh my god the Sparks are raped

Show some respect for the best band ever

  • i think patton just gets bored easily and decides to act the shite. This was awful.

  • What a butcher job- g*d awfullllllllllllll

  • yeh well if you played guitar, drums and piano you might no a little about music arse hole.

  • yet again mike dick face has murdered another song for me.

  • Why dont you show us all the music youve mad you talentless, dickless, little pussy?

  • No he didn't you jealous faggot! If you don't like him stay the fuck out of his music videos. He is GOD and you are nothing.

  • no, he did just butcher it.

i agree with the earlier remark, maybe this person, like myself is a faith no more fan and wanted to watch this, but was dissapointed by a lacklustre rendition...

and the hero worship displayed by some people is simply rediculous.

the guy can sing properly and instead he chooses to be a goofball

  • This was their last guitarist - jon hudson. Played guitar on Album Of The Year. Always thought he looked a bit like the main bad guy from License To Kill. No?

  • Who's the guitarist here? I'm guessing Dean Menta if it's 1998. I think FNM were sick of playing the same songs every night and decided to mix it up a bit. This is not a particularly good cover but lots of fun.

  • That was Big Jim Martin you're referring to. He got fired due to "differences of opinions".

It was the beginning of the end for the band when that happened.

  • Question for the big Faith No More fan, didn't the guitar player use to have a beard? I remember his thick glasses as well. Is he gone?

  • look at 1:50, it looks as if the guitar player is thinking "what the fuck is he doing?"
