I would go so far as to say that, while FNM had obvious pop influences, they were arguably the diametrically the opposite of pop. Firstly, with all the different influences between the different members of the band, it was always really difficult for radio stations and such to pigeon-hole them, and also, while there are a lot of people who have never even heard of FNM, among musicians they are frequently named as major influences. They've always been a big influence to me as a musician.
So Britney Spears is the gold standard when comparing pop music? She's teen pop. There has been so much pop over the years. Beatles were pop..Poison (bad example) is pop. Blink 182, etc. Pop is everywhere: metal, country, punk, classic rock, alternative, etc.
I am talking about Pop in the cynical/aesthetic sense (i.e. appeal to as many people as possible, typical song structure, very little instrumental creativity/talent of the musicians). Kid Rock - All Summer Long is what gives "pop" music a bad name. Not skilled bands who create excellent music, then become popular as a side-effect
Its always the same - shit music will always get noticed before bands who are doing really interesting things.
Musicianship will always stand the test of time, however.

its jon hudson on guitar, played on the last album in 97...he was bass player billy goulds old roommate and friend I guess. He played in some local San Fran. bands but have no clue what he's done since FNM...anybody know? His guitar style was closer to Jim Martins sound than Trey Spruance on King for a Day, although Treys playing was great too
You can tell Pattons vocal limitations on this one, but musically its a good effort. This one must be one of the most vocally demanding songs to sing.
Its important for ignorant people to realize that this song was recorded in the studio with both Sparks AND Faith No More. So was the song "Something for the girl with Everything" or w/e the song is called...
Besides...music is about experiment...so everyone who thinks that FNM put shame on Sparks with this cover is a geek...try to do better covers on your own!
i've noticed that with FNM he sings all the sings "less pretty" perhaps its due to trying to save his voice considering how much touring these guys did. Hard to hit all those high notes AND do the screaming night in night out. thats the benefit of the studio, you get the best take

Oh dear indeed. If you knew anything about Mike Patton/Faith No More you would know that he is one of the most intellectual, innovative and talented individuals on the face of the planet. and also one of the most respected musicians in the business, which is probably why when they recorded this in the studio, they did it in conjunction with Sparks, and the product of two of the greatest/weirdest bands ever was simply stunning. Yes, this version ain't great, but Patton likes to dick around :P

This song came out when I was 8 and I can still remember the lyrics to this day.
I wish that Mike had actually left town before he massacared one of the best songs in the world.
Justin & The Banshees did it justice. This is so offensive I want to stick skewers in my ears.

i've noticed that with FNM he sings all the sings "less pretty" perhaps its due to trying to save his voice considering how much touring these guys did. Hard to hit all those high notes AND do the screaming night in night out. thats the benefit of the studio, you get the best take

If you're going to sing a song, it's usually a good idea to learn the lyrics first. This Sparks' track is a sacred entity to me, and I feel as if my religious beliefs have been violated.

Oh dear indeed. If you knew anything about Mike Patton/Faith No More you would know that he is one of the most intellectual, innovative and talented individuals on the face of the planet. and also one of the most respected musicians in the business, which is probably why when they recorded this in the studio, they did it in conjunction with Sparks, and the product of two of the greatest/weirdest bands ever was simply stunning. Yes, this version ain't great, but Patton likes to dick around :P

Estuve en ese concierto!!! Joder, qué buenos... aunque no tocaron EPIC y la gente se rebotó un poco, fue unas semanas antes de que anunciaran su ruptura y se notaba la tensión en el escenario. Los vi 3 años antes en Madrid, con The Cure y era una banda mucho más unida y potente... Lástima que todo lo bueno se termina demasiado pronto.

Who's the guitarist here? I'm guessing Dean Menta if it's 1998. I think FNM were sick of playing the same songs every night and decided to mix it up a bit. This is not a particularly good cover but lots of fun.
