Superb - my favourite version, lost to me since my younger brother sat on it in the 1960's - he was only two at the time! But what happened to the last few notes of 'to be a farmer's boy' at the end?

What are they doing with their feet? Gently firming up the ground after raking in new seed. You can see the rake marks if you look carefully.

The government converted the plant nursery where my grandfather was manager into a victory garden. The German and Italian prisoners of war had to work it. Gave the rotten buggers something useful to do!

Nicely done. This explains "Jollity Farm", I think...the two songs both came out in 1929.

By the way, what ARE they doing tamping the rows with their boots only to rake them up again??

I think this is about what we call "Victory Gardens" during WW11 in America......Ours wasn't that big or hard to keep up.......
