There is also a scene (seen in the original "Making Of" featurette) right before the car-crash setup for the first missile before this, in which Miss Teschmacher screams at Lex, "Have you ever tried running in high heels?!"
That wasn't anywhere else I've seen either. Wish my capture card was better and I could show that--and the scene in the end with the Native American tribe playing in the water.
I love this scene! It is hilarious! I always thought this sequence seemed chopped up a bit. Why can't Warner Bros. get their act together, cut through any red tape there is and release the extended 3 hour plus version all the fans want? Or the two and a half hour version of Superman II? Or combine the films into one like was done with The Godfather and The Godfather Part II? They could donate proceeds to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation. Everybody wins!
yeah,,i remembered this scene,,on the old tv broadcast version back then..geeze wished they put all the old footage back in the DVD release,,becoz when i got the DVD release i was dissapointed that most scenes were cut and a few scenes had been snipped off ,, eg: seeing otis finishing punching in the co-ordinates in the missile and ate a marshmellow and putting back the plate back, and also there's supposed to be a scene where lex tells the soldiers to get a stretcher from the van..geeze,,
Wow, when i think I've seen every scene from this something new pops up from the old tv versions. Thanks for posting. Superman is my favorite movie ever since I was little.
Very funny scene. I love the "long arm" speech from Luthor. Where, per chance, did you find this footage? Did you have it from the ABC broadcast way back? Thanks for posting.
I remember this bit from my VHS collection.

What does it mean Lex "figured out about a second missile?"
sarnow76 1 year ago
Because Otis puts in the wrong numbers, Lex needs to change the other missile's codes. In the theatrical version you don't see this.
This also explains why the second missile is going to hit New Jersey. It was an accident (thanks to Otis) and not a deliberate choice from Lex.

Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor is just awesome. I'll always remember him for that.
