I am looking for a pedal that will act more as a sustain than a compressor with out changing the volume. I want to be able to hold a bend for ever. Do you know of any pedal like that.
i need help: i play guitar with my right hand very very soft.. i would like to know if a compressor, can raise this my sofr toch, if the note plaied very soft will play with more volume without to see too many difference between the notes plaied soft and the notes plaied more hard.
@ersemola You can use this pedal and max out the compression. Or you can get the MXR Custom Comp and max that one out too. The MXR one will give you a more squashed effect than this one. Both pedals are expensive, but they're worth it.
Not sure if this is his setup but this demo DOESN'T relect the value of this pedal at all! This compressor is awesome and VERY smooth, and typically sounds nothing like the scratchy/noisy stuff you hear here. t is comIpressor for folks that want that great compression that is dynamic and feels real!!! Key, your playing will come through this pedal. Also, for overdrive there is a high cut switch to use. For a a more fitting demo on youtube see the "proguitarshopdemos" Diamond CPR-1
if you put the compressor first in the chain it messes with the overdrive response to your picking attack. I prefer my compressor after as well. but really it's all about what you want to sound like
@zaoribah - my point is that the intermodulatory notes that sound out of tune when the distortion is engaged is so extremely insignificant to most people. Besides, I would imagine someone with such a great ear would hear that with all that expensive equipment, his sound still blows.
This is the same guy who claims distortion pedals make his guitar sound out of tune. I believe the culprit is your ear buddy. Actually, I think it's the snake skin boots.
@mikeoxlong11 - Um...it works well there...ask Trey Anastasio from Phish...his Ross Comp is sandwiched between two TS9s....phat, smooth overdrive with GOOBS of sustain.
XD wuts up with your blues jr. and that sombrero? lol did you take all these videos the same day or does your blues jr. just really like that sombrero.
makes me lol looking at your blues jr., you should put a pancho on it too XD
yea comp can suck but if your tasteful about it in small doses its nice for refined rhythm playing and smoothing out fuzz. All reverb does is get you lost in the mix...perhaps only adequate for studio recording.
I'm diggin the new camera angle. I've been thinking thinking about getting rid of my BOSS cs-3, it just sounds squishy, but in a bad way. Not subtle enough. The only way I can get any kind of sustain boost causes it to sound horrible and overly squashy bad.
Can someone recommend me a good compressor for not that much money? Or should I get by CS-3 modded?
I find that in most applications compressors are completely unnecessary. Many dirt boxes provide plenty of compression even for single coils and if you stack od's then forget it there is no need for compression. I'm selling my keeley comp. Anyone interested?
haha, knobby....the gearman dude is rubbing off on you. I have the two knob version which is adequate enough. I'm thinking about keeping it. Its nice to have to refine your tone for rhythm and smoothing out fuzz.
Thats fine, I'm in the process of building a pedal board for my bass. I really want to add an overdrive and a compressor of some sort for my billy-sheehan-ish moments haha, and the keeley was the comp I was looking at.
Nice demo as always GMD, but for some reason I just don't quite grasp the idea behind compressors- everyone is always using them. I could see a comp. in front of an octave or something that needs a hefty helping of signal with bad tracking. Maybe you have to experience the whole compressor phenomenon first hand, is that the case?

@thejamspot its having good ears that shows this. Its true some pedals do make the guitar sound out of tune.

Yep, the people have spoken dude. The compressor should have been first in line, before the dirt box. :)

compressor before or after drive pedals .... anyone?
knikk77 1 year ago
@knikk77 I have mine first in the chain. if it's after dirt then it'll raise the volume of the noise, and you don't want that apart of your tone.
johnrayy 1 year ago
@knikk77 I think before, here it's strange... My chain: Wah,Comp,Dist ect

@TheSAJ11 keeley sounds way better after my OCD and diamond j drive
mlweidl 1 year ago
@TheSAJ11 That there is what they call subjective. It depends on the sound you're trying to get.

Shouldn't the compressor go BEFORE the overdrive/distortion, etc? I know there's no a "right" way to do these things but...

some comps sound good after the dirt boxes. Gives a more refined studio sound.

It makes the loud signals and the quiet signals closer to the same volume, if that makes sense.
