  • 5:20 he has tears in his eyes.....i'm glad to see that there are still musicians nowadays that write deep and meaningful lyrics....thanks for letting me listen to your music

  • @jonas7jonas It's true.... Nowadays there are some songs that are just so mindnumbingly meaningless and have had their souls ripped out of them.... Good point made there!

  • @jonas7jonas Furthermore I actually heard this when he did it at the proms last year. Something about a string quartet that just.... you know?

  • this song reminds me of Mr. Rodgers.

  • This song is so perfect to listen to..when i feel like everything isnt right at all...This man...*sobs* ......my hero ♥

  • this guy is sooooo good i almost cry. what a bloody talent. Tim - make sure you get all of those bloody tests blokes should get (prostate etc)... we don't want you falling off the earth too early like Hitch. that sounds weird doesn't it?! wifey - get onto him if he's not doing it! xxx

  • He has tears in his eyes?! Love this song.

  • I'm wishing for and dreaming of a studio album of all my favourite Tim Minchin songs. Pretty please?

  • Sounds a bit like a Ben Folds song

  • @dwelsh226 I was just thinking that.

  • matryoshka doll*

  • so want that phrase tattooed on my wrist 'it's not perfect but it's mine'

  • He didn't get to finish his last chord!!!

  • @Systemnotadown The secret last cord - ~~ This is my soul, and it don't exist... it can't be seen, and can't be touched. It's like a ghost, BUT just less spooky. It is highly imaginative, and plagues the minds of creationists, and doesn't really do much else. And the weird thing about a soul, is whatever it is that you're told, it still don't exist. This is my soul... and it's fine. It's what happens to a disfunctional mind. It's not perfect ... Im joking. equal-D

  • @DarthTerrence

The saddest thing about that comment is that you're probably convinced it was funny

  • @4play02 ...ouch

  • @DarthTerrence You sir, are a disgrace to this video and the musical genius that is Tim Minchin.

  • I didn't almost start crying :L . . . I have watched/ listened to this millions of times :') never gets old, I LOVE YOU TIM ! <3

  • so beautiful. shame the crowd laughed at some lyrics which weren't meant to be funny...

  • @alexjthurman i agree! when he talked about his body never saying a bad word about him-that really got to me! but they laughed :(

  • @amazingvideoman2 totally. i thought that was so powerful!

  • Love it my mum was in tears!! lol xxx

  • @xXDUDDL3SXx I get it, it's just these attention seeky comments are boring and half the time aren't even funny.

    So, no.

But you got my attention for longer than you would have if I had of liked it.

  • @xXDUDDL3SXx This is a comedian's youtube page, you'll have to try harder.

  • I plan to do this at school with a friend...

I hope I can make people cry too...

    Wish me luck :)

  • Wow!

  • A beautiful song by the wonderfully creative Tim Minchin. I would give anything to see him in DC on March 24th.

  • @Airor Isn't Tim Minchin, Australian? I heard someone say he was British.

  • @1001orpheus He's Australian, but was born in England where his parents were living at the time. They moved back to Perth soon after. :)

  • Earth is where you spend a 'vast majority' of your time? Not all?

Awesome.. I wish I could travel trough space using nothing but my own music like Tim.

    :>

  • Is it terrible to tear up every time I listen to this song?

  • Fuck off

  • perfect! what a great song to listen to...makes you realize that life isn't perfect...but it is ok.

  • Dahalo are u a retard ?

  • During the country section, what country was he referring too? England or Australia? Who was the leader when he performed that? I want to see those eyebrows...

  • @andy4an Australia and John Howard~

  • @vergeresolo

WHOA! Those ARE radical eyebrows! Thanks!

  • @andy4an I have to say "fearful" and "boring" are perhaps the two best words to describe Americans too, and it is a perfect combination for illustrating the point.

  • The Earth is less that 0.02% water.

  • @dahalofreeek

fuck off, we know. this song is awesome.

  • @dahalofreeek you mong no its not wtf 0.02% water lol what earth you living on?

  • @awwamonster 2/3 of the surface of the Earth is covered in water but this is only 0.02% of the Earth.

  • Amazing how someone with so much technical skill can sit back and just focus on the sound of the music rather than getting caught up on showing off...this is great!

  • this is the first dong i ever heard from Tim Minchin, i thought he was just another stand up comedian....

.... bloody hell was i wrong.

*goes off to listen to every existing Tim Minchin song available*

  • This song is pure beauty.

  • He has put words to my thoughts, just beautiful.

  • I'm so undeniably infatuated with the way his songs come together effortlessly.

  • love tim minchin and how at 05:51 you can see the emotional glistening in his eyes as he sings from the heart

  • the nice thing is that he usually plays this after Darkside, wich is an ironical way of saying "see? i have depth!".. but then he does actually has a lotta depth. white wine in the sun is also amazing

  • 13 people think their perfect

  • @hometree27 13 people can spell they're........

  • @ihavenoideahere how do you know all of them 13 people could be dyslexic

  • @hometree27 15

  • It's PERFECTLY YOURS my darling !

  • He looks as if he's about to cry at the end

  • "And the weirdest thing about a mind

Is that every answer that you find

Is the basis of a brand new cliché"

Some of the best lines I've heard in a long time. He's not even really a comedian, he's a musician who happens to make people laugh.

  • @BrighamHB His lines are remarkable because they send a shock that requires processing by us. He is a complex character, I think. His milieu is that of comedy, music and performance.

He most certainly has something to say and he is able to couch that in shock tactics. That is his particular talent. He knows how to made his words stick in his audiences' brains. He knows how to make people cringe and then laugh. That is amazing talent with a social text included.

  • @BrighamHB True, but I would say that he's a comedian. Hes so much better than any of the others. He is an official ' legend ' .

  • His humour is very much like that of Jhonny Cash! Yeah, you read that rigt. He has a unique taste in comedy. If you're questioning my opinion on that, listen to the song 'A Boy Named Sue'.

    <3

  • @gibboj94 "A Boy Named Sue" was written by Shel Silverstein. Johnny Cash did do a terrific performance version of it.

  • WIN!

  • @minchinaddiction I know - the man is a genius :')

  • @VeroniqueCG *Love

  • Tim Minchin - you have a terrific gift that you utilise very well. I love your capacity to juxtapose and I love your ability to shock and I live that you come from Subiaco. You go, mate - go far.

  • Is it jus me or does he seem to be about to cry during this song.

  • Wow

  • This is my atom, and I live with it. Its a building block of life itself. Its the formation of physics down to a level that would make it sound to suggest that God is an aid for existance. and the strangest thing about atoms, when you get a feeling of sensedatum the things you see are there, but not really.. This is my atom, and its fine. Its what I spend the vast majority of my time with, Its not perfect, but its mine. Its not perfect, but its mine.
  • I would like to cover this one day. Pretty songs like this make me want to sing on stage with the instrumentalist C:

  • @PeppermintCereal i agree, ppl like him, are the one, who make us proud to be human being. With this awesome song. Are the ones, who make us grab an instrument and play it like you want to be like him some day.

  • @MrBOB2292 You make a really good point man.

  • A beautiful song

  • I rarely admit to things like this, but I actually cried just now when I heard this. Beautiful.

  • ohh looks like 13 people had accedentley hit the thumbs down...ooops

  • The irony that a perfect song is called "Not Perfect".

  • @AmazinglyNatalie I think he is a bit sharp at the start... T.T

  • @heath2357 Really? I don't agree but I think his live voice is amazing even so. In this video especially.

  • @AmazinglyNatalie agreed

  • The views should be at least 4 times higher than they actually are~

  • This is such a fantastic song and lyrics. Love it.

  • FANTASTIC SONG!!!!

  • LOVE THIS SONG

  • proud to be australian

  • This song gives me goosebumps

  • he looks like travis from we the kings... :) LOVE YA TIMMM

  • nothing like coming here after a shitty day. Thanks Tim. Real music.

  • What a very funny Man I cant believe I havent checked you out before , Hope to see you live some day and as for this song How Bloody True .Well Thats My Thought !

  • Just watched you on TV - "verses Sydney Symphony Orchestra"....... Mindblowingly Brilliant...... Fantastic..... What a performance....... Totally riveting..........

  • Tim, I read from your channel that you see the comments here, and i wanted to let you know that i appreciate your extreme skill. The way you orchestrate everything you perform has shown me what a human brain can do when given all the opportunities, education, and encouragement a caring family can afford it. Your parents must be very proud of you, and that's coming from the mother of 5 extremely bright young adults. Thank you for using all your gifts to instuct those who will listen. Heidi

  • I fancy you.

  • wish i could play the piano like he can :)

  • I deffinatly have to sing this for my leavers assemmbly! Great work Tim!

  • this man is so talented, hes genious and beautiful.

  • Comment removed

  • This is my YouTube and it's fine,

It's where I spend the vast majority of my time,

It's not perfect but it's mine.

  • Everyone should hear this song.

  • The lyric about your body gives so many people (me included) a lot of hope and reassurance. We see people on tv and stage, people we love and (perhaps I'm alone here) idolise a little; and see them as strong and confident people. We forget that actually there's probably not a single person on the planet who's completely happy with themselves. So thank you for that.

Off to continue working out the chords now; I thought I was doing well, stopped in to check my progress and found out I wasn't!

  • A lot of F# in this song.

  • I love the lighting on this. He looks like a little red lion.

  • @Reductify it's probably just to control the pedals on the piano

  • His music may be funny... but it is also agonisingly beautiful.

  • @AlexCookTheatre White Wine In The Sun is by FAR the best tim minchin song.

As you say, it is agonisingly beautiful.

  • @TheTzeestraten try 'drowned'

  • @TheTzeestraten I love white wine in the sun. He's an incredible artist.

  • Hearing this i wonder if i live inside Tims brain..

  • Canned laughter in this video wrecks it!!.... :( It's a lovely song besides...

  • @neil9443 I know right! Its like theyre thinking "ooh hes a comedian, we better laugh at everything!!" ugh

  • @neil9443 I didn't even hear it, all i could hear was was Tims words

  • This is my new favorite song ever. Period.

  • The one thing i love most about this guy is that he looks like he just did more cocaine than Charlie Sheen, but still he wears a suit and plays the piano to perfection

  • hes just a beautiful man XD

  • I love the awkward laughs of the audience when they don't know if he was trying to be funny or be serious. But I love this song much more.

  • @OfficeHopscotch I feel your pain i hate canned laughter... :/

  • This one needs a 'love' button, every time I hear it I get a warm fuzzy.

  • The verse 3:53 makes me cry everytime:'(</3.

4:20 - The weridest thing about it is, I spend so much time hating it, but it never says a bad word about me:')!<3

  • Perfect song

  • I like in the very beginning when tim is looking at an audience member funny :)

  • stole it samsoharrysavild :_) thank yoiu

  • I've been trying to sell my house for about 6 months. Today, when the latest viewer comes round, I'm going to try introducing it by saing, "This is my house, it's made of cracks & photographs - I bought it off a guy who bought it off a guy whose grandad left it to him. It's not perfect but it could be yours." If they're a Minchin fan, I'm in. If they're not, I'm in...to the realm of odd looks.

  • this is my laptop, and i live in it its mostly used to, watch tim minchin, it sits here on my bed a lot so i can watch tim's songs a lot and songs like this, they just make my day and the weirdist thing about it is, I spend so much time hating it But mostly when my internet is dead (so I can't watch tim :'() this is my laptop, and its fine its where i spend the vast majority of my time its not perfect but its mine
  • No matter how many times I listen to this, it never ceases to inspire me again and again. This man is incredible. I can honestly call this man my hero.

  • @NVstonebass same:) it sounds so cliche to say it but he really is:)x

  • I can't get over how this... THIS GUY IS BILL BAILEY INCARNATED BEFOR HIS DEATH!!! Tim is Bill they are sOOOOOOO alike!

  • 5:28 - I don't think I'm clever enough to understand what he means here. Does anyone have any ideas?

  • @AlanKey86 Anything you say has the capability to be repeated so much that it loses all original meaning

  • @AlanKey86 I think its a reference to an old saying that 'every answer that you find is the basis of a brand new question'.

  • Comment removed

  • 5:03 - great.

  • I wasn't sure whether I'm supposed to laugh or cry, so I did both just to make sure.. Thanks Tim :)

  • He should be a music teacher.

  • Very nice song , Ali .

  • 12 people want to live in the reality where they are perfect. So sad..

  • 5:20 there are tears in his eyes... Thank God it's not just me :)

  • @MhairiDobbin he really is most captivating. i noticed the same heartfelt emotions in his "white wine in the sun" video. he has been blessed with the profound ability to pull me, possibly others also, into the deepest emotion of his songs. i also like in "storm" where he says, "if you wish to glorify Krishnu and Vishna in a bottled up, condescending sort of way . . . ". he really makes a person, me, think that is so how religion has become, and it's like he's saying, howdarewe.

  • Tim Minchin is brilliant at metaphors that are utterly ridiculous and terrible yet utterly ridiculous and perfect.

  • i cannot like this enough

  • This song makes me want to go and give everyone a hug x

  • Its ironic how it is actually perfect

  • "the weirdest about it is I spend so much time hating it, but it never says a bad word about me."

The single most inspiring thing I have ever heard about your veiw on your body.

  • @BeautifulLyrics01 Dude, that one lyric made my face leak.

  • screw those 12 people who disliked this video :'@

  • 5:12 - 6:00 It looks like his own lyrics are striking a chord with him. He appears to be close to shedding tears. :(

  • He's so beautiful, I love watching him sing this, he's so cute with his eyes.

  • This is my comment, and it's fine

It's where I spend the vast majority of my time

It's not perfect, but it's mine

  • @samsonharrysavilldj ha ha lol ledgind lol

  • @samsonharrysavilldj You spend the vast majority of your time looking at your comment?

  • @Lordoofious you wouldn't believe how boring my life is

  • Comment removed

  • This, however, IS perfect

  • I love watching the piano keys moving

  • @NozinAroun81

i see wot u did thar

  • Oh Tim Minchin. What a wonderful song. Seriously wonderful. I first heard it years ago and tonight, it is just what I need to hear.

You are on a wave Minchin, ride it as well as you possibly can. You appear to be doing so and my best wishes.

  • It's not perfect but it's mine.

It is true that most comedians are more intelligent than dramatic actors.

It is harder to be funny than it is to be serious, seriously.

[the studio audience in the UK seem to be configured differently than they are in the US. I have seen this on several UK studio shows.

It's not perfect, but it's fine!

  • @petphotog This was in Australia, you understand. Australians think he is pretty good and would be offended if others didn't agree:-)

  • @VeroniqueCG What the hell are you talking about? OK I get it he was in AUS instead of the UK but I said nothing negitive about Tim. I like him very much.

  • @VeroniqueCG They are right! He is pretty good... I will feel offended too if anyone disagrees.. :)

  • Amazing

  • incredible talent, he has the rare ability to encapsulate his audience and keep them under his spell until the very last note
