@DiNatalli I agree. The largest problem this new film has is that the Raimi movies r not that old & did a far better job than people give them credit for. Many people will not be interested in seeing a complete reboot (as far as regular non-comic fans r concerned the origin was already done). What I find interesting though, is by raising these concerns, I'm going to be called a hater. It's become almost impossible to have an intelligent conversation about this new film.

The Raimi films had problems, but no comic based film is ever going to be 100% accurate.

I really want this reboot franchise to focus on a villain at a time, with Venom being the ultimate enemy. Spidey 1 and 2 were great, but the third one was hard to follow with all those villains trying to force screening time. Venom for the third one if this new franchise is a trilogy.

The Sam Raimi Spiderman movies were fantastic- people tend to forget that they really helped kick start the whole trend towards comic book movies (along with X-men). How soon we forget how highly Spiderman one and two were praised. Yes, three was crap, but the first two were pretty awesome. People just like to whine. I would say Spiderman and Batman will both get plenty of attention. They don't have to compete. Most marvel fans also love the Bat, and most comic book fans love Spidey.

The characters were all done poorly, and it revolved WAY too strongly on MJ. It was 'Mary Jane and maybe some superhero or something' not 'Spider-man'. The villains were all portrayed as victims; Doc ock's tentacles mindraping him, Norman having a 'Goblin' personality that makes him do bad things? They simply weren't good, despite what they influenced.

@usernameDOGS At the time the first Spider-Man was released there hadn't been a really successful comic based film since the first Tim Burton Batman in 1989. Tobey, while not the best actor in the world by any stretch of the imagination, did do a decent job of capturing the overall feel of the character. Spider-Man was an unpopular dork in the original comics and didn't gain any real confidence until after he became Spider-Man.

I'm going to take some crap for this, but the comics only reach a small fraction of the people that these films did and have become so convoluted, for the most part, over the decades that it really has become almost impossible for a new reader to follow. The Raimi films did do a decent job of capturing the overall feel of the comics. Until the new film is released I'm remaining open minded about it. Hopefully it lives up to expectations.

The Sam Raimi Spiderman movies were fantastic- people tend to forget that they really helped kick start the whole trend towards comic book movies (along with X-men). How soon we forget how highly Spiderman one and two were praised. Yes, three was crap, but the first two were pretty awesome. People just like to whine. I would say Spiderman and Batman will both get plenty of attention. They don't have to compete. Most marvel fans also love the Bat, and most comic book fans love Spidey.

@chessnotdice I'm pretty sure most people liked the Raimi films ONLY because they were Spiderman films, and people like Spidey. The characters were all done poorly, and it revolved WAY too strongly on MJ. It was 'Mary Jane and maybe some superhero or something' not 'Spider-man'. The villains were all portrayed as victims; Doc ock's tentacles mindraping him, Norman having a 'Goblin' personality that makes him do bad things? They simply weren't good, despite what they influenced.

I'm fairly sure my passport has me down as British. When I fill in an official document I alway identify myself the way most Northern Irish people do in the ethnic category of 'White British,' although I do have to say, like many of your fellow Scots, I'm starting to think Northern Ireland should break away and be it's own thing.

@usernameDOGS At the time the first Spider-Man was released there hadn't been a really successful comic based film since the first Tim Burton Batman in 1989. Tobey, while not the best actor in the world by any stretch of the imagination, did do a decent job of capturing the overall feel of the character. Spider-Man was an unpopular dork in the original comics and didn't gain any real confidence until after he became Spider-Man.

I'm going to take some crap for this, but the comics only reach a small fraction of the people that these films did and have become so convoluted, for the most part, over the decades that it really has become almost impossible for a new reader to follow. Nothing wrong with u hating the previous films, but they remain just as valid as this new one.

@usernameDOGS It's also important to keep in mind that this new film is also making some major changes also. Curt Connors had nothing whatsoever to do with Spider-Man getting his powers. It's just the nature of film to change things in order to make the story being told more concise.

@usernameDOGS The Crow, 30 Days of Night, 300 & Sin City also do a decent job of being somewhat accurate to the comic (does help that in the case of 300 & Sin City Frank Miller was involved to an extent). The Raimi films did do a decent job of capturing the overall feel of the comics. Until the new film is released I'm remaining open minded about it. Hopefully it lives up to expectations.

@usernameDOGS From what I've read the Raimi films were ment to be for children. Main reason for this was due to the success of the various cartoons during the 90s. Once the first film did as well as it did they attempted to make the films more mature too an extent. It's really hard for any filmmaker to do a film like these. There does exist a sense of the absurd when dealing with any costumed comic book character.
