I am from the netherlands. No, he escaped or the cat ate him, he was suddenly just gone. I had left the lid off for an hour orso..but the cat never goes there. I may have been naieve in thinking that the salamander wouldn't try to escape..
hey, please help me, i need help, i think i found a salamander in the wild, what should i do, it is about 2 inches in length, and has slight gills, not to large, i need alot of help.
This is the coolest! He's got so much personality. I'm curious how long do you think metamorphosis lasted from the start of tail resorption to the gills being completely gone?
I'd say within three weeks, he started to become less and less translucent, he started to get slower in his reaction to his food. Then while his colors became more appearant: brown and light-brown-goldlike pattern, his gills got smaller and smaller, and his skin pealed in three stages it seemed.
Then the day he had his head above water, the next day he climed out of the water and didn't go back into the water again.
These observations are so interesting. I absolutely love the series of videos you made. My PhD research is on salamander evolution and I can tell you that the type of careful observation (and especially publication) of behavior and morphology you have made is hard to come by. Bravo!
