Being a big fan of Karl Jenkins and his wonderful music, and of it's sublime interpretations by the Adiemus chorale, I am very excited that I will soon have the chance of singing the Benedictus and other parts of the "Sacred Songs" at our next Chorale concerts in spring. Absolutely fantastic.
Was 'forced' into a choir (still in it - they say? I can sing..). So I suddenly find myself a tenor. Our mad choir director has us learn pieces at lightening speed for the christmas carol concert in the local cathedral every year. Last year we did this. Had never heard it before, but being IN the choir singing it, you just learn the 'mechanics' of how to sing it...and then do it. You never really HEAR it. The impact it had was incredible. People were crying. Now I know why.
:-) Simply wonderful, I can remeber the first time I heard this piece of music driving on the radio in my car via Classic Fm. just such a wonderful piece of music which had me in tears and goose bumps and shivers all over my body to which I not affraid to atmit, I would certianly have this playing on my funeral, hope that doesnt sound too sad or depressing folks....
This is...heaven. I love music like this that seems to be wrapping itself around you, through you, awakening memories of times past and hopes of future moments. Firing synapses and senses as it brushes it's melodic fingers across your whole being.
This piece comes across beautifully on a good church organ with plenty of soft purring 32' bass (32' Spitzflote or Dulciana or similar) and a rich but smooth swell, closed and utilizing some of the solo ranks. Did this recently on a fairly standard 3 manual Walker organ which seemed to go down quite well.

My Dad passed away last October. Stumbling across this piece again, it reminded me that he came to see me a year ago when I was performing this in Dublin. He thought it was glorious. This piece is just as glorious as he was. It's one piece that reminds me of him. Rest in peace boss. Sorry if this comment was too cheesy :p
@TheBGilligan1 Nothing cheesy about this comment at all - very moving, in fact. I lost my dad as well one October, very suddenly and so I have an idea of how you feel. It's so good you have something as lovely as this to remember him by :-)
This song = AWESOME. I heard it on the radio on the way to work and after I parked I said to myself: I'm NOT getting out until I find out what the name for this piece is. I didn't care if I ended up being late. This was more important.
@caraboo4160 - I just wanted you to know how much your response to this piece touched me. I had a near death experience 26 years ago during surgery. For just a brief period, I was in heaven. It was the most precious experience of my life. This piece absolutely brought back the love and infinite sense of peace I felt during that experience, so you can't know how absolutely spot on your comment was. Wishing you all of God's blessings...Janice
It doesn't prove anything other than one thing: That instruments, mixed with the combined strength of the human voice and spirit, creates the most illustrious piece that can touch the human ears and move the hearts of many.

Why does music like this make you emotional? How does it trigger intense emotions enough to make you cry? It is something I have always wondered. Does the same emotion occur in all people, or only some? Why only those people and not others? Another incredible trait of the human being to feel something towards sound. I played this on my euphonium recently and had goosebumps all over me by the end, question is WHY?
@hertsguy33 I have a theory.. it's because sound is one of those things tied to memory.. and also to one's imagination.. which are both treasure troves for emotional evokation.
In short I think the way it goes is.. Some music makes you feel a certain set of feelings & a corresponding memories/images which gather in the quiet of one's mind, while listening. Bam. Emotion.

When I'm sad I listen to this song, and I become more sad, on the brink of tears even, but then the uplifting part near the end makes me feel like I want to be sad but it's so uplifting. The vocals are amazing and soothing.
Hi I havent played my violin for years. After hearing this piece of music I an going to try and play it. That is of course if I can get it tuned up. I cant wait to get back into it again. What an insperation this music has been for me !!!
There are moments in this that remind me of the Sanctus from Beethoven's "Missa Solemnis", which is extraordinary, because it is such unrewarding music for this writer's soul. It is inane -and yes I do apply the dictionary definition: soul-less. As a music lover I actually become angry listening to it. How can it be popular? I despair. It's not music of death but more like death of music.
There is so much pain in this, so much sorrow. The pathos is yearning and lays on my heart heavy. If all people were to listen to this there would be little room left for hatred... surely! Why cant we allow musics power to solve the worlds ills? Im a dreamer i know, but somehow i think that feeling this way can only be good for our souls. so haters out there, listen to this and start to feel the love, the power, the feelings of peace. For my son Elliott. God bless you son. Paul. Daddy.

i do, i lay the viola, since i was 10, but i started on violin when i was 7, then switched because i was getting bigger and my school orchestra needed a violist. what about you, are you an instrument player, or is your instrument your voice?
Woot! Violists unite! I've been playing since 5th grade. First traditional western string instrument, and Mozart's preference to play in the orchestra (that and 2nd violin). We're a minority, so we have to stick together, then rake in all the college scholarships xDDD Oh, and this song is gorgeous, too. ;D ;;;;
I also play the viola and I belong to my town orchestra. I love the sound of the viola (better than violin), however I sometimes feel discriminated. We are just two violas against about 14 violins, we hardly get melodies....etc... Do you feel totally happy with the viola...? as I sometimes think of switching to violin and I do not do it because I prefer the sound of the viola, but sometimes I feel tempted because as I have told you sometimes I feel discriminated. Silvia
@sroldanmartin i never feel discriminated against, but i must admit, having played the violin for three years before switching to viola, and being a lover of many instruments and of more vigourous melodies, i consequently do feel somewhat discontented with the viola. i like viola, but as we seldom get more interesting parts and as there a lot of insturments that interest me(esp cello, oboe, and violin), i cant help feeling discontented.
@sroldanmartin however, we do have our value in orchestra as well as pieces occaisionally written specifically for us, so im glad to at least contribute to raising the tide of beautiful music that others hear.

I play violin and clarinet. I'm a rubbish singer though haha

Woot! Violists unite! I've been playing since 5th grade. First traditional western string instrument, and Mozart's preference to play in the orchestra (that and 2nd violin). We're a minority, so we have to stick together, then rake in all the college scholarships xDDD Oh, and this song is gorgeous, too. ;D ;;;;

The melody is played on a cello believe it or not! Beautiful isn't it...

@Gawaine687 Hi Gawaine,
I also play the viola and I belong to my town orchestra.
