I'm actually looking for an Analog to Digital converter box. This is very clearly a Digital to Analog converter box. Get it right, two very different things.
@vio2112 The LOSERS are those still buying cable or satellite service! Certainly not the consumers boycotting an unethical and grossly overpriced service. With the cable/satellite infrastructure already paid for and operating, going digital meant they could use it hundreds of times more proficiently--selling off "surplus" bandwidth to government, emergency services, other communication industries-And what did they offer the consumer? Higher prices, more cables, remotes, batteries and boxes!
@grafenbergspot I agree. The people who willingly pay $100 a month for garbage reality shows infested with commercials and terrible poor mans Tivo DVRs are idiots. That's why you get Netflix and "cut the cord." No one NEEDS to see the latest episodes of Dancing with the Has Been Stars, American Idiot or Jersey Shit despite what they think. There's more than enough quality content on Netflix for a measily 8 bucks a month. But sadly, dumb Americans have been conditioned to think they "need" cable.
The more things change. The more they stay the same.
This is the same in the UK. Only in the UK our government is harder than your government! Hence you dont pay the BBC for TV licence, you go to prison! Talk about a fucking free country!
I just had the cable box for the coaxial installed that will provide the service a service that I dont want or even care to watch. Ill watch my laserdiscs DVD and crappy Bluray format.
This is important news for anyone who don't know. The subscription companies are trying to get Congress to stop your local channels from broadcasting over the air. That means everyone would have to pay for your local channels to see them and Directv and Dish don't show all the secondary channels which you can get over the air free. One station here told all it's viewers so they could complain to their rep's and senators.
@semco72057 I Have the internet for 40 a month I can watch what I want when I want and not wait for my favorite sitcom to air. The internet is currently making tv obsolete just like it did radio.
I have one which works without this box, but I use the box with an analog TV which is now connected by way of an outdoor HDTV antenna which don't have to be setup the way the older antennas was. The picture is better than the new flat panel TV connected to Directv. I couldn't believe it and I get more stations than I did with the best indoor antennas which I purchased. The indoor antenna's will go to the dump now.
I have a converter box attached to one TV, but the TV which is connected to my Satellite Tuner for FTA don't need one attached. The TV works fine and thanks for replying.
The bottom line is if you have a flat panel TV you don't need this box. If on the other hand you have one of the older bulker TV's then you will need it.
i hav an old tv but i dont use an antenna(rabit ears) i use cable(not a cable box or cable company just regular cable) will i still be able to watch tv?
Because your using a cable line, not an antenna, which is what will be the causing problem for people not being able to watch TV if they don't rid of them or upgrade to a TV without them. your good since your using a cable line. it's people with the antenna's on their TV's that are going to have the problem without a proper update to a converter box, cable service, or satellite TV.
I could'nt totally be sure with you about that as i'm still using an everyday normal 19" non-widescreen non-HD TV(i bought in 02). i'm not going to be able to upgrade to a widescreen HD TV for a while so i'm not 100% sure in your situation. it does'nt have a Coaxial Cable connection on your plasma TV at all?. that seems weird(again i don't own a plasma so i would'nt know at all). if not your best bet would be to buy a digital converter box or have your cable company take a look at ur connection.
Wanna make a bet? There is still basic cable available CH 2-98 as analog over cable lines. Comcast still uses analog and digital. I've rolled on quite a few trouble calls due to ingress of digital over the air screwing with our analog freq's in cable lines. Basic cable won't be available for too much longer though :(
Louie is correct. More digital signals can be used on a given frequency as opposed to analog which is 1 channel per. You'll see more and more channels over the air in the near future. As for the government monitoring what you're watching at home? That's hiliarious. A small TV sized antenna broadcasting a signal several miles to a central reciever? Learn about radio wave propogation before jumping to conclusions people.
Digital tv is the next gen! The government is not gonna control our "minds". They broadcast the same shit just in a different format. People can be so retarded sometimes.
The only frequencies that the telecoms bought were for channels 52-69. Frequencies for 2-51 (minus ch 37, which is used for astronomy) are still used for TV. frequencies for ch 55 are for Qualcomm's MediaFLO, and for what few that Echostar bought. Those frequencies for 55 are downstream only. So the telecoms didn't buy those licenses.
Do any of you guys got prove that the goverment is watching what we watch on on tv if we switch. If the answer is no(wich is the answer)you need to stop ok. It is getting old alright, enouth is enouth NWO this and NWO that stop it already, why you guys wanna go on and on about it. So please stop this NWO crap cause its not true and you know it.
Digital goverment control. Now only elite owners of media networks have 110% control over your brainwashed media. With no potential for a controversial broadcast. EVER
i got vips cards for ppl that are planning to switch, free, send me ur address, i'll mail u one, or check craigslist, they are usually under the free section.
This is government B.S, ok now I have to buy a box to able watch t.v. Now I have 2 remotes, its already the pain to plug more cables, and adapter in my room. Not just that if my antenna signal strength is low or on "bad weather" all you see is pixelated blocks, and you'll get less channels. Great improvement my ass.
If your HDTV has an ATSC tuner, then you won't need a converter box. You just plug the coax cable into the TV from your antenna (outdoor best bet, and make sure it's VHF/UHF if you have stations on VHF), and scan the TV for channels. Any antenna will do, as an antenna is an antenna. There's no such thing as an HDTV antenna. I'm using a Philips outdoor antenna made for 2-69 from 2002, and works just as good as it did for analog. I even got my CBS station on 3, before it switched to 12.
@hatamakoto Don't forget that it's mostly for rich people since they can afford The T.V. sets made to accept the resolution of the image sent out by digital stations (720p - 1080i) while analog sets can only do 480i (unless of course its a sony FDTV in which case it can do well over 480i (480p-720p-1080i).
But I think if I get anything I'm going for sony's FDTV of the old days, sure it's 200bucks but it's cheaper then the new shit, and it lasts longer plus anything above 32-inches is more of a bragging size cause it only matters if your using it in a certain room space so it's pointless if your house is smallish. : 3
there are chinese converters in ebay and dollar stores for less than 5 bucks dont worry calif oregon and wa dollar stores are selling thousand of those items!.
So who's tax money is paying for all this in order to force everything over to HDTV when we already transmit in HDTV anyway? I mean, this is completely un-necessary because our current analog televisions still get the local channels even when they are initiating an HD movie. Therefore, why did we ever need the converter anyway? The only explanation possible is that for some reason they need to be able to input output info from your cable lines instead of just output. Do the math.
This is because they are doing away with the frequencies that your local (over the air) stations run on. They now run on a digital band that has multiple stations. And way better (zero static) picture.
Yes, I know but what I mean is that the option is now available for either one. Why are they switching it to resolve only one option? It's just TV for God's sake. Why create a whole stink over HD when not even half the people who own TVs even have HD TV's yet. Maybe uf they try lowering the prices a bit, people like me might give a shit about it.
DTV is not HDTV. Not all TV stations are airing in HD. For instance most smaller PBS stations. Goverment is not funding commercial stations ie, NBC, CBS, FOX...
Now funding is be assisted to PBS stations. HD is completely different from DTV. Some stations will still broadcast in Standard Defination. Stations are not required to go HDTV. But I would rather watch HD vs SD.
Does anyone know if this is also happening in Canada? I don't think so but who knows. There are going to be so many old folks pissed off when they can't watch tv anymore. They don't follow this sort of thing.
ok,you and the other people need to stop this NWO stuff. The reason they switching to digital is they can give the anolog to the emergency forces(Police,Fire,Medical ect)so it will free up when a major emergency happens they can talk better. Like the I-W35 bridge colapsed if Dtv was going on they can talk better. So this stuff with the NWO is getting old and needs to stop cause you guys are not getting no where with but making people scared.
"So this stuff with the NWO is getting old and needs to stop cause you guys are not getting no where with but making people scared."
I think that after 9/11 people were already scared, being that our leader had everyone believing that Islamic fanatics attacked us and were planning on doing it again.
Makes no difference if it's digital or analog. If it's on the same frequency, it's interference. It's similar to having upper sideband and lower sideband.
Have you stopped to ask yourself, how come the government is bending over backwards to give away 40 bucks just to make sure everyone converts to dtv?
How bout giving everyone a 40 dollar certificate for gas instead or food?
DTV sucks if you have more then one set. Signal strength is lost considerably as you run the feedline from set to set. They don't tell you this chit. With DTV they can monitor and track everything you watch...similar to how google monitors and tracks your internet.
no they cant you idiot, DTV transmissions are only one way directionality AND broadcast to all users at once. The DTV box CANNOT send a signal out, only receive.
Okay genius, what you suppose to be? Some kind of tv repair man, who has the inside scoop on converter boxes? NO you are not.
I hold a Technician Class amatuer radio operator's license. These things do not broadcast signals in the general sense. What they do is collect subtle information regarding your viewing activities, such as program data, length of viewing, commercial viewing, etc. When the time is appropriate, the information is collected & sent. Similar to cellphone and GPS units.
The encyclopedia describes the v-chip as: "The V-chip works much like closed captioning as it uses the vertical blanking interval in the television signal to send and receive a special code in the programming which indicates the show's score according to a simple numerical rating system for violence, sex, and language."
This same technology is being secretly used to monitor what you watch and when you watch it.
The title and description of this vid say "Analog to Digital Converter". I think you mean to "Digital to Analog Converter", because that's what it's doing. It is taking the digital broadcast stations, and converting them for analog TVs ;)
Any one who no abought this will tell you you can still get analog signel. it will just be a weeker one. the way it works is the digityal is sent down the analog sig. that is wi most boxes will hase a analog passthrew.
Just wate and you will see you will still get analog. and when you do the goverming will give some excuise to wi. and yes i cant spell well.
ya i know. maybe if you could spell. i'm pretty sure that if you think you know all about this that you could at least spell a little. but i guess not.
Why is our government paying 40 bucks a box to help us get them? Whats their interest? Film has historically been used to indoctrinate people. WAKE UP. throw your tv away. Don't be a stupid sheep.
I'm actually looking for an Analog to Digital converter box. This is very clearly a Digital to Analog converter box. Get it right, two very different things.

Maybe you never heard of V-chip technology.

It is taking the digital broadcast stations, and converting them for analog TVs ;)

analog signal uses too much bandwith compared to digital signal. no conspiracy.

Why is our government paying 40 bucks a box to help us get them? Whats their interest? Film has historically been used to indoctrinate people. WAKE UP. throw your tv away. Don't be a stupid sheep.

Why would anyone throw away something they paid for? TV is good for people who can't concentrate when reading books, helps us relax.
