Mondale is a socialist who proposed higher taxes and more spending which would have ruined the recovery. President Reagan won re-election in a landslide.
@fireandchutes77 well, there is the saying that history repeats itself and if we don't learn from history, we're destined to repeat it, who knows, maybe you did.
Mr Mondale: As much as I respected you then & still do today, its pretty damn hard for parents to "teach their children" & "teach them well" when many of them clearly know "jack shit" themselves! Its a vicious cycle that goes way back!
@Kawinkedink86 he says in the speech i want you to think of new things here is my new thing cars that run on urine thats my platform a chicken in every pot and a car that runs on urine in every garage .
This is the same Democratic party who today supports illegal immigration which has crippled labor wages in this country, as well as being die hard supporters of Taft-Hartley which was the "right to fire" law. What a joke. Funny to hear dems talking about labor as if they give a crap.
@victimofcheese TRUMAN vetoed the taft hartley act but congress went into over ride and passed it the democrats dont support illegal immigration but more jobs are lost when factories move out of the country one candidate that addresed that issue was kerry .
Walter Mondale was and still is a great man.... He legitimately cared about the American people and I think that it's safe to say that he was possibly the most misunderstood politician in our Nations history...
@spacepatrolman Yea, you're right and I could understand that! After all it was 1984 and like you said, her husband had developed a reputation that helped to bring more negative attention on her. If we were to have a women President or Vice President, she had better be operating with a clean slate. I'm sure you know how hard it is to be the FIRST anything.. Thanks for your comment sir..
Mondale lost so horribly to Reagan that its Laughable, Mondale received 1 state, and barley received it by 0.10%, his home state. Even democrats like me laugh at it. He had such horrible idea's to run the country it would have been the liberal version of George W Bush who was also a worthless excuse for a president.
You can't think Bush was a worthless excuse for a president, but he was a far more successful politician than Mondale could ever dream of being. He did get elected twice.
atheo1, Let me give you a refresher course in high school government. Refer to Article 2, Section 1 of the United States Constitution, which essentially institutes the Electoral College. George W. Bush received 271 electoral votes, Al Gore received 266, and therefore George W. Bush was ELECTED president of the United States in 2000, since our president is not ELECTED by popular vote.
The electoral votes from Florida handed to Bush by a supreme court decision. When it seemed almost certain that the Republicans were going to lose the recount they staged a series of "Beuorgeosis riots" to force it to come to an end.
None of what I said is a "far-left conspiracy theory" it's widely known as fact, and just because Bush won more electoral votes, does not mean that more people wanted him in office.
Oh we appear to be changing our tune, first you said he wasn't elected in 2000, now you say just because he was ELECTED doesn't mean more people wanted him in office. That's not the point, the point is he was ELECTED twice.
No, I said he won more electoral votes because of a supreme court decision! Which means he was not elected by a majority of the people. As I recall, you require a majority of the popular vote to be elected president! The only reason Bush won is that the recount was stopped by the Republicans which forced the decision to go to the supreme court.
@atheo1 that was in the election that gore lost he could have done more with legal manuevering but decieded not to because the stalmate was causing a crisis which effected the stock exchange his decision was comendable ,then he made his documentary on the green house effect .
Reagan's legacy: the financial meltdown; huge numbers of uninsured Americans; the stupidization of the country via FOX News and the toxic Right Wing radio (Reagan did away with the Fairness Doctrine, requiring equal time to issues); Osama bin Ladan (the Taliban were our friends against the Russians); etc. His ideology, realized fully in GW Bush, is the worst disaster to come upon America. Sadly, they packaged it to get plenty of people to vote against their own interests. Sad.
The stupidization of the country? You mean indoctrination of America by neo-Marxist university professors, MTV, CNN, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, NBC, LA Times, NY Times, Hollywood, the Music industry, etc.
Weak mindless lemmings all.
You sound like youve been drinking from the cup partisan kool-aid, lay off the chronic son.
@Musician1827 Reagan ruined 2 unions deregulated the banks and the airlines mondale came across as being nice the republicans go for the jugular and use scare tactics thats why they won .
So, I was like four when this ran, and I would've voted for him, of course. But what was he thinking with Crosby Stills & Nash? Especially with the culture wars still so fresh? I think he did great with the Blue Collar stuff, but were Reagan "Democrats" going to connect with hippy music? I'm assuming he already had his base - Democrats need more to win. It's surreal to see Obama saying the same things now though! I'm glad the Dems have gotten more sophisticated at campaigning, is all I'm saying.
The Democrats are still trying to help America; and the voters have largely rejected their candidates--do the poor really want the rich to get richer? Do we not care if those little children speaking actually achieved their dreams??
I worry about our country--and I am grateful to you, Walter Mondale and Geraldine Ferraro for all the good you did for your country!
I agree, that was a hearbreaking election. I wonder how great we could have been had that demon Reagan not been re-elected. The 1980s spawened a very selfish generation that keeps rewarding these gop crooks with office. Walter Mondale was prob the last of the New Deal Democrats. Reagan Democrats what an oxymoran
In 1944, when Ferraro was eight years old, her father was arrested and charged with operating a numbers racket. He died of a heart attack the day he was to appear for trial. "The acorn doesn't fall far from the tree"....We don't need advice from the MOB Geraldine...just go away you crook!
God, that bastard Reagan left this world laying the groundwork for our continuing destruction - and gets to whitewash his own brain off any guilt with Alzheimer's. He's openly violated more sovereignties than Bush, wreaked more bloddied havoc in the Middle East. This motherfucker sold drugs to terrorists ! Truly a terrible pile of shit. Says a lot about media looking for their own, if anything....
You realize, of course, that your No. 5 spend eight years trying to undo every bit of domestic policy that your No. 3 did. Don't think No. 4 would have been so keen on Ronnie's economic policies, either.
Not any more. His worth has fallen so far in the year since your post. At one time he was regarded as one of the greatest presidents in US history. Now he is looked upon as the willing architect of the Bush administration. A week before the 2008 US electionAmericans are poised to react to the Reagan touch, hopefully erasing it from any chance of coming back.

Funny. I swore I saw about the same commercial a few weeks ago on TV. Does history somehow run on 26-year loops?
