First, I don't think this kid made it to the TV show just because of luck. He's obviously able to stay competitive. If they drench the lanes and have unpredictable oil patterns and strange carry-down, it may be very advantageous to take the lane out of the equation. I think he compensates for lack of drive by hitting higher in the pocket than we would. He must be severely accurate to do that. He may have been aiming light towards the end of the match to avoid splits when he had a sufficient lea
How come everybody hates something that is abnormal? When Belmo and Osku came onto the Tour with their two-handed style, many shunned it, believing it isn't a legitiment style. Now everyone's saying the same thing here. UFOing the ball is a legit style of bowling and is mainly used in parts Asia where they oil their lanes much more than here in the US, so a traditional release is basically worthless, so they UFO it, which on beyond extremely oiled lanes is effective. STOP HATING! IT'S LEGIT!
No disrespect to any bowler who bowls in this style, this looks like a bowler trying to hook the ball a lot but then spins it like a lot of recreational bowlers does... Can't China stop inventing or modifying things and making stuffs in the world so awkward?
this is quite deadly style; even if your ball hits brooklyn you have a high chance of messengers. Before I got a hook ball I used to do this a lot. The problem for me is it's quite hard to be consistent with your release due to the fact you twist your wrist.
I heard of this style when I was young, and now im glad to see it, thanks to the internet. What kind of coverstock is on the balls? Does it matter much since you arent really hooking it like traditional style? Also, do the lane conditions matter much? Can pros average 220+ in leagues with this kind of style? Very interesting.
@TrollinOnMyFace lol yes..... ive had 2 300s this season alone.... i work at a bowling center in corning ny (Crystal Lanes), i average 228.56 through 26 weeks. id say id ruin this kid.
this is a waste of bowling balls. this aint bowling one bit n besides the point helicopter bowling kills ur arm after a few years anyway so whats the point?!?! bowling is about adjusting and adapting to the lanes!!!
@kameyu1000 nah it basically blows ur arm out really fast bc when u release the ball like that ur arm is twisting in a way its not meant too. i went to a camp at UCF n the coach had a thing bout it n how bad it is on the elbow n wrist n arm. if it hyperextended it they could recover after a break for a lil bit but it does alot more damage then that
What does it matter how he bowls? Hes not doing it wrong... This kid would beat anyone who commented on this video. Just remember people hes getting paid to bowl.. most people here pay to go bowling... so shut up
@TheOmgWtfLawl first off id destroy this kid on any condition. 2nd hes not getting paid to do this. 3rd everyone pays to bowl, even pros... thatd be how you enter tourneys, theyre not free. 4th this kid didnt even bowl a great game so how is he better than anyone commenting? everything you said was WRONG
@ridna660r HAHAHAHAHA. People may pay to bowl even this kid. But it comes down to the fact that hes bowling in a pro league in his country and you bowl at a local alley and as usual you think you can bowl better than him because he dosnt bowl like everyone else and judging him by 8 minutes of footage. Thats the problem with you Americans you think you are better than everyone else in the world.
@TheOmgWtfLawl HAHAHAHA the best part is ive seen this kids career achievments, MINE are better and in about the same amount of time bowling.... SO in other words YES I am better than this kid. His style is the only thing getting him publicity not his skill.
I'm a half thumb bowler that's been spin bowling for about a year and a half and I'm averaging about 200 on house patterns. Although I respect the numbers he gets, I really dislike the style. He's basically straight bowling and he's aiming for brooklyn's? It looks pretty boring as the ball just travels in a straight line. Probably why they are not in PBA, etc.
@Antzcarb True, but he's starting on the left side of the lane, so shouldn't it be better to drive in the ball from the left side for more pin carry? Cause if your a left-handed normal spinner, your ball comes out left and goes in the left pocket. His ball is starting off from the left and drifting "over" his pocket and hitting brooklyns which means less carry. Correct me if I'm wrong.
@jstMichael You're actually wrong, although it took me awhile to figure this out myself. Conventional strike - 1-3 pocket. Ball hits only the 1,3,5 and 8 pins - the 1 pin hits the 2-4-7, the 3 hits the 6-9, and the 5 hits the 8. In a spinning strike, the ball spins clock-wise. The ball must come from the left and enter the 1-3 pocket as if it was drifting away from the 1 pin. The ball hits only the 1,3,6 and 10 pins. The 1 hits the 2-4-7, the 3 hits the 5-8, and the 6 hits the 9.
@jstMichael In other words, in spinning, the ball takes out the entire right-side of the rack, and the 1-3-6-10 pins topple the entire row behind them like dominos. Conventional bowling relies on a more precise system of pin action. IMO, although the domino effect is ingenious, it is still inconsistent, and relies more on gravity than actual bowling skill. It is also a bad strategy when the oil patterns are more modern - allowing the competitor to use the better conventional style.
@Antzcarb its a brooklyn because he technically throws a backup ball. ball moves in the same direction as his release arm...... righty ball and the ball moves right, Your ball is meant to drive into the pocket his turns away.... hence brooklyn. thats exactly why this kids whole game is shit
looking at the comments, im quite surprise to learn that people claim they bowl, but dint know that spin is a legitimate bowling style, as good as hook, cranker and back-up.
I only use 2 fingers-no thumb and a 2 hand delivery. I can hook a house ball and ride the gutter as good as any club ball player, my mechanics suck because im 6-1 and started league bowling at age 42 but right now after 2 seasons im averaging 165. Fundamentals depend on what you are taught with. Ty Cobb the greatest singles hitter in baseball history didnt even know how to hold a bat, but he held the all time hits record for 60+ years.
Does he do this all the time? This would be a valuable skill to have if your bowling on a reverse block, but on normal patterns a hook gives you more miss room and the ability to work the oil in your favor.
Spinner is also a technique developed over time by the taiwanese bowlers to overcome various lane conditions, why would Nelvin78 claim that its a shame that they cant teach young bowler proper fundamentals?
Sure spinners dont have the flair that hook-bowlers have, but it gets the job done. If words ain't good enough, go play against a spinner in a lane and try to understand how much you need to put in to achieve that "perfect spin"
@Nelvin78 Proper fundamentals are different when you have lanes made of pure friction. Mika combated similar conditions by lofting the ball. People of Asian descent are generally of a smaller build. Therefore, lofting isn't exactly natural or easy. They figured out a way to be consistent while still being able to deal with their garbage lane surfaces. Proper is what you can repeat, what allows you to score on your lane conditions, and what will strike. Sounds like UFO to me.
@Nelvin78 You're not one to judge and say proper fundamentals. It looks pretty tough as it is to throw it that way, I dunno how in the world they do it, but it's pretty impressive I gotta say. If you hadn't known, UFO spinning has been an accepted style of bowling release so get with it dude.
I'm a tweener and I have to say that is very hard to do, he's not throwing just a straight ball, the main difference is that the rotation on the ball doesn't react on the lane, reacts on the pins. And I'm sure is pretty easy to do something to your wrist throwing like that.
the spinner is a highly effective technique in bowling it looks usually like a common straight ball but the amount of rotations that are on the ball are what matters , you need skill to use this technique its not an over night thing if you do it wrongly you can break fingers and such , im just a stroke bowler so i don't use this technique but i have done research into most types of bowling throws and techniques
You sound like you are a pro...but I have no idea what you are saying and I have been bowling for 2 years so that means you are sweating to defend your comment with every thing you got whether it makes sense or not.
@turgi65 Dude u must b bowling wit lots of casual bowlers i suppose, how bout a straight ball going down at bout 33 to 34plus Km/h will cause any impact? I can throw a straight ball down da lane anytime even if there's no oil left dude...A expensive strike ball to give u spin? Try spinning a storm nano then let me know wats da use of it...
@fwtdDummie No I did not. Spinner release is not oil pattern dependent if done correctly so it will still gets lots of strikes even on extreme oiling conditions. The only drawback of spinner release is precision abit too late and it veers of course. But with hook release there's more play I think so even if the ball hits dead at the head pin it will still strike because of the side rotation.
@80gerardtan asian leagues and pro tourneys use really extreme oil patterns (and usually much much more) compared to US bowling... so there is a reason behind doing this
