  • this is great footage...super 8,great sound(well,for a super8,its damn good) and well shot....thanks for sharing it!!!!!

  • Why does he remind me of klaus nomi here?

  • What city was this? I was at the Akron Ohio Show... Too Cool!!

  • Damn, that looks better than concert videos I shoot on my cell phone these days!

  • @LittleEmoDancer yep, newer doesn't always equal better.

  • That things shoots better than 99% of the shit you see after concerts now on YouTube haha! Great!

  • Thank you for this video.

I always wonder how cool and experimental music was back then, even before I was born. Kind of nostalgic and sad.

  • Been a fan since '79, & I love this. But you can see why he retired so soon. He looks so self conscious... The can of coke was a prop, he just didnt know what to do with himself for the ending of Cars... Even his walk is a little awkward. Bless him, he is and always will be a legend, but he must have dreaded playing all these shows in the early years! Not now though

  • Not at all mate....do what you want.

  • Hope you don't mind me adding some sound to this. I've given you full credits.

I'll delete the video if you want - Paul

  • he's singing like he's been breathing helium,lol.

  • That guy (Rrussell? Paul? whatever....) at 0:52 is really going at that tambourine like a real hippie. And this is all supposed to be anti-hippie. I love it!

  • and what have you become jrmetmoi? someone who trolls the internet rubbishing someone who's music once meant something to you .I fear it's your own lack of achievement or inability to accept that your idols are human that may be the real issue .

  • @beatvampire Wha??? What the hell are you talking about man? I love this guy! Music once meant something to me? His music still means something to me you jackass! You need to HAVE. A. SEAT. Go siddown somewhere, anywhere but here!

Gary is my eye candy and ear candy much like Bowie if you don't like that, then oh well... Ho, have a seat!

  • @Hammersmith80 Who cares when he still has the same tight butt now as he did back then?

  • he managed to engrave his initials as being the first one to thrust into this phenomenon of music style. Congratulation Nu exciting Man

  • I love how he knows there isn't anything for him to really do at that point in the song, so he just does whatever he feels like. I love Coke too.

  • Unless he was getting money from coca-cola find that so unprofessional.

    Which is so unlike him!.

  • @rockcityaudio perhaps it was the time. Remember it was all about punk and not doing what was expected then.. New Wave was all about artistically strategic non-chalant iconoclasm (coke brand not withstanding).

  • Ah, the good days. He went a bit off the deep end with the metal goth grunge music. It does not have near the same feel to it. And who just walks around the stange with a Coke?? This is greatness

  • really thanks to share this vid!

  • Amazing find. That's some damn good amateur filming for 1980. What city was this?

  • please dont hate on me! but is gary numan er what ever his name still alive?

  • he is, in fact he is colaborating w/ NIN right now

  • YAY!!! LoL!!!

  • do you mean appearing on stage with them or actually writing songs together?

  • both

  • that is great news!

  • ur tellin me, trent reznor is my hero, plus gary numan ain't such a bad musician either

  • hell yes he is, he is still making music, search around youtube, youtube is filled with Gary Numan videos.

  • @P0TaT0MaN96 yea, Gary is still alive, and still performing.

  • I can still remember the band lineup here, Chris Payne & Roger Mason inside the columns on keys, Rrussell Bell on Guitar, keys etc. Cedric Sharpley on drums, and the late Paul Gardner on bass. What a blast from my past!!!

  • The early 'raw' quality of this video is what makes it!! totally adds to the atmosphere, absolutely love it...dont favourite many videos but this definitely makes it. 5 stars. excellent. thanks for the upload.

  • what a fantastic gn period that was...

    will adore this forever

    absolutely unique...

many thanks for postin this jewel

    cheers.stefan

  • DIS BETTER VERSION LUV BASE

  • ahhh happy i have a mono switch on my headphones :)

  • uh.. you kidding me, for a Super-8 film from the 80's taped by the common man this is as good as it gets. I wish all bootleg concerts were like this. This is screen shot, most people shoot these things pointing directly at the stage.

  • I'm talking about sound of this video... it's terrible... (bad sound quality)

  • Haha. I thought it was actually real time. I like the song a bit faster though. Sound quality isnt bad though. Video quality isnt so great but who cares?

Who walks around during one of their songs with Coke...only Gary Numan would have the audacity.

    80s are so awsome.

  • was he big back then?

  • He was the first Fred

  • Who is Fred?

Are you refering to the band "Right Said Fred"?

  • I must have been smoking something when I posted that.

    Forget it

  • Sweet! I was 13 when this came out! GOOD MEMORIES INDEED!

  • Wow, this is rare stuff! Too bad about the cut.

The reason why the tune is going too fast is probably because this footage was transferred from a super-8 film made with less frames per second in order to save the limited recording time. Those films only lasted for about 3 minutes or so.

Those weren't the digicam times of course.

    Very cool this!

  • was this originated from a VHS tape???

  • No, in 1980 people there were not yet VHS camcorders, so it must be transferred from a Super-8 film, which was the standard filmtype for amateur equipment.

  • Great plug for Coca-Cola.

  • ya no he talks so damn fast and the lyrics are so short, they mustve wanted to get it done and over with lo;l.

lol but i love how after :52 seconds of singing he just walks around on the stage drinking his coke can xD

  • Its cause all american tv shows tune up music a notch thats why its soo high

  • legend of electronic music

  • Is this electro ? Ace song :D

  • this is new wave

  • shut up you mugs this guys a legend

  • GARY HAS HAD A SEX CHANGE!!!

  • Where can I get that outfit today?

  • Legends in Kensington High Street where Gary had his made all those years ago
