Been a fan since '79, & I love this. But you can see why he retired so soon. He looks so self conscious... The can of coke was a prop, he just didnt know what to do with himself for the ending of Cars... Even his walk is a little awkward. Bless him, he is and always will be a legend, but he must have dreaded playing all these shows in the early years! Not now though
That guy (Rrussell? Paul? whatever....) at 0:52 is really going at that tambourine like a real hippie. And this is all supposed to be anti-hippie. I love it!
and what have you become jrmetmoi? someone who trolls the internet rubbishing someone who's music once meant something to you .I fear it's your own lack of achievement or inability to accept that your idols are human that may be the real issue .
@beatvampire Wha??? What the hell are you talking about man? I love this guy! Music once meant something to me? His music still means something to me you jackass! You need to HAVE. A. SEAT. Go siddown somewhere, anywhere but here!
Gary is my eye candy and ear candy much like Bowie if you don't like that, then oh well... Ho, have a seat!
@rockcityaudio perhaps it was the time. Remember it was all about punk and not doing what was expected then.. New Wave was all about artistically strategic non-chalant iconoclasm (coke brand not withstanding).
Ah, the good days. He went a bit off the deep end with the metal goth grunge music. It does not have near the same feel to it. And who just walks around the stange with a Coke?? This is greatness
I can still remember the band lineup here, Chris Payne & Roger Mason inside the columns on keys, Rrussell Bell on Guitar, keys etc. Cedric Sharpley on drums, and the late Paul Gardner on bass. What a blast from my past!!!
The early 'raw' quality of this video is what makes it!! totally adds to the atmosphere, absolutely love it...dont favourite many videos but this definitely makes it. 5 stars. excellent. thanks for the upload.
uh.. you kidding me, for a Super-8 film from the 80's taped by the common man this is as good as it gets. I wish all bootleg concerts were like this. This is screen shot, most people shoot these things pointing directly at the stage.
Haha. I thought it was actually real time. I like the song a bit faster though. Sound quality isnt bad though. Video quality isnt so great but who cares?
Who walks around during one of their songs with Coke...only Gary Numan would have the audacity.
The reason why the tune is going too fast is probably because this footage was transferred from a super-8 film made with less frames per second in order to save the limited recording time. Those films only lasted for about 3 minutes or so.
No, in 1980 people there were not yet VHS camcorders, so it must be transferred from a Super-8 film, which was the standard filmtype for amateur equipment.
this is great footage...super 8,great sound(well, for a super8,its damn good) and well shot....thanks for sharing it!!!!!

Thank you for this video.
I always wonder how cool and experimental music was back then, even before I was born. Kind of nostalgic and sad.

I love how he knows there isn't anything for him to really do at that point in the song, so he just does whatever he feels like. I love Coke too.

Unless he was getting money from coca-cola find that so unprofessional.
Which is so unlike him!.

Those weren't the digicam times of course.
