For most situations, the train breaks while it gets a "RED" signal from rail-circle. Why didn't this train automaticly stop?

@ typhoon7205: Indusi (which almost certainly was in use in that year) almost certainly activated the brakes in order to stop the train, but clearly the train could not stop quickly enough to prevent collision: brake-activaction by indusi is than only to minimize damage if a collision would be inevitable.

At that time there had been engeering works at ths signal boxes in Dauenhof. The station master ignored that he didn't wait for the information that the first train had arrived at Elmshorn and gave the next one green light.

As a result of that a lot freights had to be run via the closed (and meanwhile re-opened) line Neumuenster-Bad Segeberg-Bad Oldesloe.

Ein wenig grotesk Witz zu reißen, wenn man vor sich Rettungsfolie von Verletzten sieht. Zum Thema "da waren auch noch andere, wir waren nicht die Einzigen" eine Frage: Wo sind dann die Anderen? Ich kann keine Personen sehen oder hören - komisch. Außerdem ist die Angabe, dass 20 Personen verletzt wurden, völliger Quatsch. Es wurden 2 Passagiere verletzt und die beiden Lokführer schwer verletzt. Wenn ich 2 und 2 addiere erhalte ich 4, wäre mal interessant zu wissen wie ihr auf 20 kommt.

trains dont have breaks like cars, therfore, they can not stop as fast as cars.. it takes a good bit for a train to stop and the other train was probably to close to stop, giving him no chance at avoiding the wreck

I wonder what happened to the locomotive driver. He either must have hopped off the locomotive or he must have run to the rear driver's cab to survive this crash since the diesel's front is completely deformed...

The destroyed cab was the rear one. The rear waggons of the freight train were flat ones, so the loco climbed up and the cab remained intact.

They removed the parts that were still OK and moved the rest to the junk yard. As far as I can remember, the frame was either broken or at least severly damaged.
