They come NTFS. The manual says you can reformat it FAT32 for PC or Mac, with no caveats noted.
Despite what the manual said, I hooked mine up before installing WD Drive Manager, and dismissed Vista's driver prompts, and it worked fine.
So, these do not need Drive Manager or any special drivers to function as RAID 1, and will still provide status indication via the front lights.
To connect to a media player or similar that only supports FAT32, reformat it FAT32 using WD Drive Manager.

I have the 4TB studio version - the silver one which also supports Firewire 800. Great drives.
Check out my videos to see it.

Hey there... so does it come out the box as a FAT32? if not then when formated into FAT32 will it work the same for RAID 1 so it makes a copy of my files?
