Unfortunately, this piano excerpt it's just a sample/demo from an electro-mechanical music instrument created in early 1960s in England, called Mellotron. I also thought it was an excerpt from a Duke Ellington or Count Basie piano piece… But it isn’t.

This instrument was very similar to an organ and became very popular since they were played by several well-known music bands of that time like 'The Beatles' or 'The Moody Blues'.

With this instrument anyone could play several instruments at the same time and create different rhythms while you are playing the keyboard. In other words, it’s the grandfather of our contemporary keyboards, which just one person could play a song as it would be played by a band or even by an orchestra!

And NO. This piece is not from that band you are thinking of. They just took part of this Mellotron sample and put it as intro in one of their songs.

There's a video somewhere on here that shows a guy playing the exact same piece of music. I think its just a sample sound, which would explain it being used so much by other people.

In fact, the sample used in this song comes from an Optigan or Mellotron loop. BMTH is credited for this but they should not... Indeed, the same loop is used in Beauty Pill's "Wont You Be MIne".
