This is the reason I bought my 9000 turbo - drinks fuel, suck pedestrians into the radiator, but it can accelerate through a brick wall 0-60 in nothing. Love it!
Try a classic insurance policy, find an older model such as a 1987 9000i with low mileage, there's the odd one about, and then get a classic insurance policy from Adian Flux or similar, with restricted miles, 6,000 per year
THANK YOU for posting this. I loved this as a kid. My first car was a 1985 saab 900 turbo sedan, and i'm car shopping now, 12 years later, and hope to get another used saab :)
Ah I wish I could afford the insurance for a 9000, even the base 2.0L model would cost about £5000 (about $8000) per year to insure for me, being a young driver and all.
When you build jets, you don't just build any car, you build the best engineered car ever. I own a 1978 Saab 99EMS w/over 300,000mi. As old and used as it is it's still fast, reliable, and doesn't leak oil. Best car ever! Don't think i'll ever sell her.
I´ve onwed many nice cars. But my favorite car ever was a 1987 Saab 9000 turbo I bought for 500 dollars. The thing was in bad shape, I had to add oil and water to it every week, the exhaust was broken so it was loud as hell. But I loved it! it was so much fun, I loved the sound of the turbo, I loved the power it had, even though it had like a million miles on it. Best car ever. Beautiful engineering.
I had a '90 Saab 900 non-turbo, automatic. The highest it ever got was 95mph and it could mark up to 135... Great looking car though. If it were a manual turbo, I might still have it.
160???? DUDE wow thats insane, I don't have the turbo as it turns out. But mine, although it has NO pick up, it gets up to speed and it hauls. 115 mph still my record because I fear police, but it was still pulling AND the ride is SOOO smooth. Anybody know if you can do an upgrade from standard to a turbo? Like without buying a new Saab. PLEASE reply to that.
160,000 isn't a lot at for Sweedish cars at all. My 1996 Volvo 850 T5 has done 140,000 and to be honest the car looks and drives as it did from new and pulls strong all the way to 150mph whenever you require it to. Mileage really is irrelevant if it has been regularly seviced and is always warmed up properly and cooled down.
In answer to you question of adding a Turbo, i would say don't bother, for what it's worth you might as well go out and buy a 9000 turbo and your time and money.
dude 160 mph before tuning it was clocked 250 000. old volvo racing only used blocked that allready passed 400 000km beacuse if they havent blown by then they wont. and ive acctually drived several volvo and saabs that looped once and then some. theese are and will always be the most reliable cars in the world. at least till later years when euro manufacturers copied the american model of shitty cars thet need fixing ergo more money for the manufacturers.... fu k c capitalism
Yupp you can do that as this is a low pressure tubo or bi. it will of course be more wear and tare but it is not needed to get welded pistons etc. gear box however you should change as the range are far different on the turbo acctually the 86 tubo did 155 stock and on a saab road test they did 120 000 km on full speed for days WITHOUT engine failure. so this should be aquired as well but again not needed. my new speed record with street legal 182 ;-D 416 bhp
WOW lol I own this car in particular and Oh My GOD I had no idea I could do some of these things! Well...except the reverse donuts and the J-turns lol. Saab 9000's are the best! My personal best is 115 mph but i only had a mile stretch of freeway.
I hope it's 90'000 you ment becauce otherwise it really wouldn't be any special. But even 90'000 is not a big deal, mine has now done 241'000 km (that's about 160'000 miles) and it's still runs perfectly. Saab say it's capable of 400'000 km or more.
wow, our saab 9000 cd 2.3 has gone 350'000 kms and the engine still runs perfectly. but we had to replace almost all parts in the car when we bought it.
