  • EVOs in a drag race? You might as well drop the car dub style and slap some neon lights under it... Yes, drag races requires a certain set of skills, but with a 2.0L (or 2.3L modded) 4 cylinder 4G63 engine? There are WAY better platforms our there for drag...

    None the less, props to the owners on the video doing 10s~ Just .2 cents from an EVO IX guy~ 

  • neither of those evos were stock, this proves nothing... if you had a semi competent driver in the vette, it would have easily waxed either evo...

    I think it should be fair for rear drive only cars to run street slicks if running awd cars, otherwise pointless for launching. Even still, this Z06 had nearly 10mph higher trap speed and tripped lights first... we all know which car is much faster here, it ain't the EVO.

  • amazing what a jump you will get with all wheel drive. Saw even with about a 3 car jump that Z06 about had him at the end. That Evo 9 is far from stock running in the 11's

    yeah and i can tell you the evo was made to be the platform for mitsubishi's rally car. that's why the evo x was even made before they came out with the lancer when traditionally the lancer was the platform for the evo.

    uhh must be ill informed. I hope you know pretty much a lot of racing cars are based from their original stock design which is the street model. For pro racing they just mod the stock into a racer.

    Hence one of the reason why Subaru's WRC car is called WRX STI (just modded for rally) and it is the exact same model that street one has.

    Launching, at the beginning would be somewhat redundant, since it is usually assumed when you launch, it is the beginning of a race. Unless its out of a hairpin, but that shouldn't be a dead stop anyways.

    never properly done it? i used to drag when i was in high school then in college i turned to circuit racing because a friend of mine who is a pro racer and was racing in asian formula 3 introduced me to it. so i know for a fact the type of skill set needed for circuit and for drag. by the way the car i used for drag was a lancer with a 4g63 from an eclipse. yeah it wasn't much but i was only16 or 17 that time. so drag queen, YOU SHOULD KNOW since you said you also do circuit

  • @azimangoez Tell you what, hunt down a decent car running in the Outlaw DR class. Say around 3000lbs, 1400hp turbocharged LSX, full 25.2 cert, running high to mid 7's at above 180mph. If you can convince the owner to let you drive it AND the track officials to let you line it up on their strip (you need a license) AND can manage to make a full throttle pass, on video, WITHOUT killing yourself or the car in the process, THEN you have grounds to say such a thing. 4G63 Lancer swaps DO NOT count!

    needless to say that's quite impossible. however, since you've already challenged me, why don't you find a novice circuit racer, have him drive a drag car for about 3 hours then compare your time with his. then drive around a circuit the whole day then compare your times the day following. hell you could practice the whole week if you want haha. and remember, brake before turning, down shift + heel-toe, avoid powerslides/drifting since most drivers think that'll improve lap times

  • @azimangoez With a good instructor and an apt pupil both will progress, likely at an equal rate. The basic skills required to SUCCESSFULLY drive a road car and a drag car can be taught in an afternoon. Mastering can take a lifetime. The essence of drag racing AND road racing is to find the fastest line through a given course and navigate it as quickly as possible. Drag racing's object is to PREVENT the car from turning, road racing's is to ASSIST it. Neither are simple as they first appear.

  • stock theyre the same no one catagory excels enough to call it better. tuning wise, no, not yet at least because the x's capabilities still havent been fully explored while the cta9 chassis evos (7, 8, 9) has been.

  • if you want all power with mininal mods get an evo 9. if you want more luxury and a not as fast stock car, get an x. the x's respond very nicely to tunes though. socal evo got an evox stock +74hp with just a simple tune

  • As much as I love muscle cars, i must admit that jap. imports can wreak haboc amongst Us cars on dragstrip. Face it, AWD with top line electronic and mechanic pose big threat to low tech high power muscle cars. As it goes for evo X: I'd prefer older one (evo X MR FQ 400) due to the fact that its much lighter and not so "pipmed" (who te fuck need 20" speakers adn that stuff?). With some mods it can be quickly on top of drag list (ofcourse if the driver is skilled enough to drive it).

  • I absolutely love evos and I'll have mine as soon as I find the best priced 2010 white GSR, but a stock evo, or even one like that cannot beat a corvette z06 on a regular basis, it has 505 brutal horsepower and the 2010s are said to go to 60 in 3.7 O.o. Only through skill and the awd launch can it have chances. But the Fq-400 can wreck some bitches :D

  • No, more proof that there's no replacement for superior traction and launch. It's called AWD. Notice the difference in the 60' times and then the difference in ET's. The vette did reel the Evo in quite a bit, proving superior horsepower. Give the guy some drag radials and a few lessons in how to launch properly and this would end very differently. But then it would just be the 'well it's an $80K car vs a $40K car' argument. In the end, the Z06 couldn't win, even if it won the race.

  • We got a professional driver here ^^^. Maybe you've never driven something thatt fast to know but when there is that much power going to two wheels it is extremely difficult to keep the right balance on the throttle to minimize wheel spin.

  • Rear wheel drive is the best drag setup (rear engine is technically the best with RWD). AWD is the easiest to launch yes, but maintaining 6krpm and dumping the clutch is NOT skill. And even if it is "hard" to launch, maybe this guy should know his car a little better...

  • stock for stocka newer evo x gsr should beat an evo ix (ix is the fastest of the older ones) 0-70 but the evo ix is lighter and beats the X by about .2 on avg in the 1/4. reason being the evo X has a much much better drivetrain and theres less hp loss from the awd.

  • Evo owners got to the drag strip to TEST their performance. They don't go there everytime. I've had my Evo for 2years, and I've only taken it to the drag stip once, and I go to the track, canyons, autox more. I only went to the Drag strip cause I wanted to test if my cars time..

  • Mitsubishi themselves stated that with the 7, 8, & 9's they just wanted to see how fast they could make them go. But with the x, they had a different game plan. The goal for the x was a more green engine with much better handling and more mature car. Now us tuners have made them faster then nines!

  • That Evo/Vette race was one hell of a race. The Vette won cause he crossed the line first and is why his time lights up before the Evo time. At first I was a little confused but seeing the difference in the mph's of each car its easy to see what happened. Vette had better reaction time but traction problems out of the hole. I'd love to see a best of 3 on those 2 cars. The Grey EVO IX is a beast I just knew it was going to win.

  • The Evo's elapsed time was quicker than the Vettes, meaning that from the time the Evo left until the time the Evo crossed to the line, it was faster. However, that is not including reaction time. This is why the Vette's clock lit up before the Evo's, it was quicker out of the gate. Had the Evo left at the exact same time as the Vette, the Evo would have one. Hope this brings some clarity to the typical arguments.

  • Clearly wasnt a Z06 as stated in other vid. No hood intake, fender flares or badging....just a regular C6 with Z06 wheels. And yes the Evo ran a faster time but he lost the race. The Vette crossed the line first and thats all that matters in drag racing. The board lit up for the Vette and anyone that doesn't realize that doesn't know shit about drag racing.

  • if you pause the video at 1:55 you can clearly see that there is no hood scoop in the vette, its a base c6 with the z06 rim option. and the 12.7 it ran is consistant to that of a base ls2 corvette

  • Well it depends on how you look at it, yes the vette did achieve a higher speed before the end of the quarter mile which means it was gaining on the evo. in terms of highest speed achieved in the quarter mile the vette won, but in terms of crossing the finish line first, which is usually the decision maker in a drag race, the evo crossed first so it won the race. So you cant really have a slower time and still win in a drag race, but you can say you were technically faster than the other guy

  • Yea the evo x GSR is more powerful than people think. A manual boost controller, exhaust and cold air intake will add over 60 whp as demonstrated by import tuner's dyno test. This new engine has potential. The only problem is that its an aluminum block so you can't push for hp like the iron block 4G63 engine which is still the most powerful and engine in my opinion. But the evo X has lots of potential.

  • The GSR does not have HID lights, that is for the MR trim. I do no believe that there is an HID option for the GSR but is standard equipment on the MR.

  • Not always! Pause the video at 2:12 you will see clearly that the lights on in the right lane, thus giving the Z06 the win. The Evo "is" very fast but because its trap time was significantly lower, the Z06 won! In other word because the Evo had better traction it got down the track with a better time but the Z06 had less traction, but because of more power it made up what its lacking, time from its speed or (trap time). It better'd the Evo by 8 almost 9 sec thus allowing it to catch up and win!

  • True but look at the at the trap time! The Z06 ran a 12.74 @ "117.63mph over the EVo X's 12.60 @ "109.05 so clearly the Z06 won this one hands down.
