The dude spend 75% of the time talking and less than 15% actually sailing. Then he was on a close reach, not down wind, and a critical factor in down wind sailing is sail trim yet the video didn't show that at all. Good luck to all who think you'll watch this guy then take a boat out for a sail. You'll need your vest.
The title is sailing "with the wind" but then he talks about sailing close hauled. Does he know the difference? The camera doesn't let us see the sails enough to know what's going on anyway.
as you can tell tyler peirce is not filming this by himself therefore thecamera man may take action using common life saving skills taught by the US sailing organization which are similar to that of the boy scouts of america a life vest is only truly needed when there is only one man on the vessel or there are conditions present that are not represented in the video in which winds are in excess of 20knts or wave heights are above 3 feet. I am in the Boy Scouts of America and I could save him lol
the rules of BSA Safety Afloat make it pretty clear when life vests are to be worn. Life vests are to be worn at all times when anyone is on a boat. There are very few exceptions. Please don't misrepresent BSA policy with regard to watercraft safety.

@sorrycharly5750 Looks like a buoyancy aid to me. They don't hold your head above the water like Life jackets do so he'd be face down in the water, sleeping with the fishies.
perhaps he should be wearing a vest.. I mean... he IS teaching people, so if he went around without it, learners may also... teach best practices..... what you do after that is your own responsibility
do yachts not have tiller extensions?

I once killed a mountain lion with my bare hands. Oh yeah, and I wrestled a grizzly for a fishing spot in Alaska.

Really? That's amazing!

Sailing is different than motor boats. Sail boats are generally tall and skinny. Motor boats are short and fat.

i fully agree but I think that they are designated towards scouting eventsfor legality issues

Hey, Ranger Rick, maybe you should think about learning how to punctuate instead of saving guys who can sail circles around you.

its easyier to move around a boat without a vest i dont even wear my vest during storms and ive never drown
elliottmolnar 3 years ago
The odds are in your favour. You can sail without a vest lots of times but you'll only drown once.
sparkygl0s 3 years ago 10
Of course you haven't drown, you wouldn't have wrote that if you had.

I don't think he wants to risk drowning.

What, you think he can't swim?
jaivenmsn 3 years ago
What happens if he smacks his head and knocks himself out. Then he can't swim. Then he dies.

jaivenmsn just got owned.

In which case he'd get his head under water anyway. An inflatable should keep his head over water in good weather, though.
