why would charging the batteries generate fresh water?

@LaMouleQuiCoule the engine is run at regular intervals to charge the batteries. Since the alternator provides more power (amps) than the batteries are able to accept there is a surplus of electrical energy during this time. This surplus in energy can be used to run the water maker.

Your boat sails pretty upright compared to other sailboats. Why is that?

@tobigforyou ..itt was designed with water ballast that can be changed from port to starboard depending on the point of sail, it also makes the boat fast with less weight than the standard fin keel..
