FUNNY SQUIRREL PLAYING DEAD

People are saying he's either warming/cooling himself against the pavement, which makes sense enough. But if that were the case, I'd expect to see this as a fairly common behavior among squirrels. Is there any other purpose for which a squirrel would act like this?

Oh the things I could tell ya 'bout the Little Demon Rodents! I take in orphaned and/or injured Squirrels and release them when and if they can be released. I also take in the ones that have sustained serious, disabling injuries and can not be released. They usually don't want to leave anyway cuz I don't put them in cages unless it is 4 thier own safety. They r free range house Squirrels. They have thumbs, r VERY intelligent, and DESTRUCTive! I love 'em though. TREE RATS RULE!

That is an Eastern Fox Squirrel. We have them here, too, and I had never seen a squirrel do that until I moved here to TX. It is doing that to bring down its core body temperature on the cool concrete. I would bet you filmed this in a hot area, or at least during summer (probably so since it was uploaded in June).
