Here in Canada if a mother was married she would not qualify for our mothers allowance- therefore legalizing polygamny would get some off the system. I think it's great the work these women are doing. Consenting adults should have the right to live plural marriage if they so choose to do so. I think these family units are much better than the broken homes and chaos we have now.
I recommend doing some reading on women who have lived in polygamous household, it's incredibly sad what they go through and what a powerful hold the males have on their conceptions of life. Irene Spencer put out a touching memoir called "Shattered Dreams". Before this book i never actually knew much about moron polygamy, it really opened my eyes.
I recommend watching the evening news and seeing what women go through in monogamous households, it really is sad what ills can afflict society as a whole. I don't think we should generalize and assume polygamous communities have more problems than mainstream monogamous. That is just not fair.

Yes! The crown decided recently not to pursue charges against polygamous families here in BC, mostly because they know it could not be won and such a case would have certainly paved the way for decriminalization and eventual legalization.
