The Red Army soldier in WW2 was one of the toughest, bravest examples of soldiering since the beginning of recorded history. A luxury for the men at the front would be a chunk of pork fat and a hard biscuit. Getting food to the men fighting in the rubble and sewers of Stalingrad was near impossible. Days without sleep, food or clean water took its toll on both sides in Stalingrad. After weeks in the city troops no longer feared death. Death would be seen as a relief and an end to the horror.
When I think of starligrad It makes me think how a ground attack on London by the nazis would have played out. would have been a blood bath.
