I don't care about the ending of films, though i didn't expect he would allow such a thing! Anyway, I love this film. Don't watch it only for seeing the ending!
Janus Films, it seems you used the original soundtrack when making this trailer. Could you please tell me the title of the song. I suppose it's a Michel Legrand's composition but I'm not sure either. Thanks in advance!
@azkorriscooterclub I know that in the Criterion DVD the person who does the commentary talks about the music in the scene where Nana dances ( from which this music is taken). I can't remember what he says. Hope that helps!
@JoyDeVivre1 I think P.L.F. is beautiful to look at -- I really like the 'mini-musical' it contains -- but I think Coutard deserves more credit than Godard. It's a great '60s movie,' though. But it is also the beginning of Godard's 'head up his a**' period. He loved film at the beginning of his career; then he fell in love with Godard. R.I.P.
I just noticed for the first time Karina, in this film, looks very much like Juliette Binoche in Mauvais Sang. The hair is almost identical. I wonder if Carax had Vivre sa vie in mind.
It would be a dream to have this in blu-ray. Let's cross our fingers. I'm already excited about the news of Criterion's blu-ray disc of "Contempt" (although the date hasn't been announced yet).
That's Godard's plan. Many of his early trailers, which he cut himself, are pretty much the entire movie in microcosm. CONTEMPT, BAND OF OUTSIDERS, MASCULINE FEMININE - their trailers all essentially contain the endings of their movies. I guess that was part of his attitude to trailers. Ebert likens it to when they give free cheese at the supermarket - eat it, and you know everything about the cheese, so what the manufacturer is hoping is that you'll want to buy a bigger chunk of it.
@Agent00Soul Oh but no one ever watches a film for its end! Remeber Ferdinand in Pierrot le Fou "la tragedie c'est lorsqu'on sait qui les personnages sont, où ils vont, mais que tout le reste reste mystère"
Great movie, I love Godard's work. That man is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. And Anna Karina is one beautiful actress. Yeah! :-)
